Sick to death or reading threads and hearing from oh who is a nurse say such and such asked for a female nurse because they feel more at ease with a woman looking at there fanjo only for a male doctor to walk in and look at there fanjo

Am I right to feel this is plain old Conspiracy of professionalism

If you don't want a male nurse fair play but what about the male paramedic, doctor , Anesthesiologist and male scrub nurse in the theatre who will see your bloody fanjo ffs

Also oh informs me about 80% gynecologists are male my oh works in a hospital were none of the gynecologists are female

So I really can't understand why you would let a male doctor see your fanjo but not a male nurse

Or have I gone mad

Had a male midwife looking at me fanjo but I changed to a lady GP for my smear. My GP is a total gent it would have been too uncomfortable.

You may well be unconscious for those people.

It's not an awkward moment then.

Obviously

Not everyone objects, and it's not just silly little women who aren't comfortable with it. Sometimes men request male doctors too for genital exams! the silly sausages

Trills · 06/01/2014 20:51

It is quite sad that women think this way, but in some circumstances it is understandable, if they've had bad experiences in the past, especially if we're talking about a voluntary procedure where they are awake and conscious (rather than an emergency or operation).

What's really crap is people saying "why would a man want to be a gynaecologist?", as if it's organs are only interesting if you have them yourself. I assume that fanjos are interesting to some people i just the same way that livers are interesting to some and kidneys interesting to others.

Sparklymommy · 06/01/2014 20:51

See personally I think I'm very odd. I would RATHER have a male nurse/doctor/paramedic to a female one.

rockybalboa · 06/01/2014 20:52

I couldn't give a rat's ass whether any medic who looks at my fanjo is male or female. They are medically trained to look at fanjos so who cares what gender they are.

Sadoldbag · 06/01/2014 20:52

Euphemia it's actually causes the nurse a nigh mare when someone won't be treated by so and so and want a female nurse if your on a busy ward which my oh is it's very disruptive especially when the reasons given are usually so Hmm if your asking for a female nurse because you don't want a male looking at your fanjo then

The doctor pops in who is male and looks at your fanjo then your just waisting every ones time. In my view

I can't understand why women would be happier with other women faffing with their fanjo? Seems weird to me.

gordyslovesheep · 06/01/2014 20:56

maybe because of trauma or for cultural reasons - it wouldn't bother me but I wouldn't automatically see it as sexist or irrational either

SinisterSal · 06/01/2014 20:58

Why would it cause the nurse a nightmare? i'm sure they've considered that it might happen and have structures in place accordingly. Next it'll be don't bleed as the medical staff can't cope with that routine occurence either

Sadoldbag · 06/01/2014 20:58

poster NatashaBee

Also sadly oh has had this happen to him only for them to go on to have a full examination from a male doctorShock

So I wonder what I have missed

Sadoldbag · 06/01/2014 21:00

gordyslovesheep my point is why would you be I unhappy with a male nurse but not a male doctor males doctors are not a third sex male doctors are still men

FreudiansSlipper · 06/01/2014 21:00

i prefer a woman doctor to give me a smear test i am sure i have always been asked

when making an appointment at my doctors i am asked would i prefer to see a male or female doctor sometimes i prefer a female doctor

thankfully we have that choice now

TunipTheUnconquerable · 06/01/2014 21:03

Why is it wasting everyone's time to want a woman nurse just because later you might have to put up with a male doctor?
If you find it an uncomfortable experience it's fair enough to want to have to go through it as few times as possible.

Personally I never thought I was bothered about this, until ds2 was delivered by a paramedic. I will never forget my relief when I was in advanced labour on the floor and the paramedic arrived, a big pair of boots hove into view and I looked up to discover they were being worn by a woman.
Rationally I don't have any problem at all with male healthcare professionals but for some subconscious reason, at that moment it really, really helped that it was a woman. So after that I have a lot of sympathy for people for whom having a same-sex medical professional is a big deal.

SolemnHour · 06/01/2014 21:03

ERM maybe they have had a bad experience with men before or they feel more comfortable with a woman as we are the same down there, its the most intimate part of your body why shouldn't you get a say in who examines it?

And really??

I can't understand why women would be happier with other women faffing with their fanjo? Seems weird to me.

Weird how exactly?

ChippingInWadesIn · 06/01/2014 21:04

Why are you grumping on behalf of your other half or other male nurses? What does it have to do with you personally - exactly?

(For the record - if needs must I don't care if they are male or female)

MissRabbitsOtherJob · 06/01/2014 21:05

According to DW female gynaecologists have smaller hands. Just saying

Sadoldbag · 06/01/2014 21:08

But people don't demand a female doctor after demanding a female nurse why not you dot have to put up with a male doctor you can wait for a female one just like your wait for a female nurse.

But if your. Happy with a male doctor, male variations on medical staff then why would a male "nurse" be the issue

OP posts:
SinisterSal · 06/01/2014 21:10

Thats probably something to do with the God complex of doctors. People don't feel they can demand things of a doctor but they can of a nurse. That's got a sexist root when you consider the traditional genders of those two occupations, though happily things are just starting to even out.

Ghanagirl · 06/01/2014 21:12

Why are you so angry that your OH isn't allowed allowed to examine or "view" women who then go onto have a male doctor, it isn't his right surely what the patient is happier with is paramount unless it's life or death

FreudiansSlipper · 06/01/2014 21:14

have you started a thread on this very subject before op?

having a deja vu moment

Sadoldbag · 06/01/2014 21:16

Sinstersal

I think you have hit the nail on the head I do feel it's because people see nurses as lesser because it's it was really about feeling uneasy then you would also ask for a female doctor.

oh yes why are women so uppity, having a view on who they want examining them.
