Having endured enjoyed both films over Christmas with the kids, I think that Mary Poppins is a little bit lame. The songs and effects in Wizard of Oz piss all over supercafragalistic quote frankly.

Any film featuring Dick Van Dyke's supposed "cockney" accent is lame, IMO.

I think Sound of Music beat Wizard of Oz though.

I am a little bit obsessed though. Trying to convince dp to have a wizard of oz themed wedding (subtly not ott) but he's not having it.

I prefer Mary Poppins. But my modern Christmas favourite is Elf. Even though I don't usually like this kind of stupid humour.

Wow! Oz themed wedding! You could have bridesmaids dressed as munchkins (not just the kids), and put a yellow carpet down the aisle and skip down it to "Follow the yellow brick road".

Dirty Harry is far better than either.

I love Mary Poppins. But only so I can make comments about how grown men really wouldn't be fitting up those chimneys, or whatever. Not for the actual film, but the crapness of it all.

Sound of music has everything and a gripping ending is unusal in musicals.
Loved Wiz of Oz as a fantasy.
