Private Equity manager Adrian Beecroft has donated over half a million pounds to the Tories since 2005.

Beecroft is the head of the private equity group that administers Wonga. The typical interest rate on a Wonga loan is an incredible 5,853% APR!

the Tory party are resisting regulation of Payday lending sector. Does this resistance have anything to do with the fact that one of their biggest donors runs one of the biggest legal loan shark operations in the country?

Although little clip is based on American economics its probably pretty similar to most of the wealthy nations in the west (and the east are following pretty fast in our footsteps)
Fairness does not necessarily = communism, which seems to be the words that get lots of people into a big old flap, and what people seem to jump to the conclusion to when they hear the word socialism.
A bit more equality.
A bit more of a chance for everyone to benefit from the wealth we made for this country. A bit more recognition that we may not all have 'ever so important' jobs like hedge fund managers or CEOs of big corporations, or have inherited enough wealth that our families for many generations dont actually NEED to work, but most people still work bloody hard at what they do and should expect their standard of living to reflect that.
And a country that has enough wealth to run the welfare state, to support the weak and vulnerable in its population and to provide fabulous public services if a small minority were not sitting on and greedily snouting up and accumulating all the wealth for themselves. More then they ever ever could possibly need or use.

HappTeeNewYear

I am 99% sure that flatpack you did a personal attack.

Custy has not attacked you or anyone personally. Just their ideas.

You're allowed to attack ideas and even call the large group of people who have them scum.

You are not allowed to say "Custy you are scum."

See the difference?

So I can say "Labour are Scum", "Socialists are Scum" and "Up-Their-Own-Arse-Massively-Entitled-Guardian-Fuckknuckle-Mumsnetters are Scum", can I?

No, I don't see the difference at all. It's still shitty and it still doesn't belong in fucking AIBU. There's a politics section for idiot socialists to tell us all how brilliant the world is when they run it.

HappTeeNewYear · 30/12/2013 19:32

To misquote the bible: someone has to be the hewers of wood and drawers of water.

Without them? There is no life for anyone.

HappTeeNewYear · 30/12/2013 19:34

My final advice to you flatpack, if I may be so bold, is to hide the thread and go on with your night.

Have a good one!

BitOfFunWithSanta · 30/12/2013 19:36

Do you want to put the screenshot on "Have You Seen This?", or in Chat, Grumpy. I'm sure there are lots of people who would be happy to raise awareness of how MP's and their families are reacting to the austerity measures. I certainly would. I think there are simple reacting tools if you google, so you can hide your identity. I'll have a look.

Well the person who most recently called me scum. On fb not Mn. It happened a week ago and she's the wife of a Tory counsellor and his biggest supporter. She is definitely right wing.

What a load of fucking bollocks.

grumpyoldbat · 30/12/2013 19:37

It really happened and no I wouldn't go to the press. I have no desire to be in the local paper. Or any paper for that matter.

AKAK81 · 30/12/2013 19:38

Fucking socialist scum

BitOfFunWithSanta · 30/12/2013 19:39

Yes, there's lots of free photo-editing downloads or apps. I've never used them to blur out names- only to fix my eye bags Xmas Grin.

"No-one suggested that the current Labour party is after killing millions"

Um yes flatpack did, when questioned she said quite specifically what would happen if Labour got in, to the "killing millions" bit.

"but socialism has in every country it has been tried in"

Well that's clearly not true. Unless you define a socialist country as one characterised by a loony despot that kills all the citizens (which I suspect you do).

Anyone who thinks that all countries that are currently running on broadly socialist principles eg much of Europe, Scandinavia etc are at immediate risk of suddenly murdering vast numbers of their population, then I suppose that must be a terrifying thing to believe and maybe it follows that supporting the right wing is the lesser of two evils.

The fervour of right-wingers seems to start to make sense now, if their real (secret) aim is to save us all from instant death.

Mimishimi · 30/12/2013 19:40

Does anyone honestly believe that Labour, especially under Blair, are really any different? Both those parties in particular and to some extent all others, are beholden to large corporate interests over those of the 'little man'. Flatpackhamster is absolutely right about the crimes of Communist leaders in the past like Stalin and Mao but comparing them to a softhearted schoolteacher who doesn't want to see her school given away for free to someone who then turns into an 'academy' is a bit of a stretch.

BitOfFunWithSanta · 30/12/2013 19:44

Oh look- AKAK81 has just said "fucking socialist scum". I'm a socialist. Does that mean s/he just called me that? Of course not. But I'm all about the PMA- it's a really good technique for cultivating a more cheery outlook. It could definitely help you, Grumpy.

NiceTabard · 30/12/2013 19:46

Mimi I don't think the softhearted schoolteachers had as much to get upset about under Labour, did they? I think they put a stop to the school grounds being sold and stuff IIRC.

Agree that in general politicians are all bloody awful. Just the things highlighted on this thread are sickening. People are correct to react negatively to them. As they react (ed) negatively when politicians and parties of other colours turned out to be on the make.

Dawndonnaagain · 30/12/2013 19:52

I thought you and I were making an effort never to speak to each other again. Let me know if you've changed your mind. Or leave me alone.
Well, we can't let all of your swivel eyed, completely barmy generalisations slip by, can we, dear.

MyDarlingClementine · 30/12/2013 20:01

everyone in power and politics is into this not just the tories, all of them are at it.

MiniTheMinx · 30/12/2013 20:10

FlatPack are you feeling OK? you seem a bit agitated.

There is no fear of Labour being socialist Flatpack. Any claims towards socialism deserted that party long before the second world war.

Claiming that socialism leads to despotism is wilfully ignorant of the fact that the limits of liberal democracy under neo-liberal/late capitalism leads to a similar situation where the despots actually take no direct responsibility, for they are the unelected benefactors of Puppet politicians.

NiceTabard · 30/12/2013 20:12

From memory I always feel like with the other parties there are individuals who are rotten, but with the tories it's often stuff like this which is at policy/national level. So things like them forcing privatisation on schools and giving the private organisations the right to sell off the land. This is happening in the NHS as well. And things like removing the nutritional requirements for meals in academies which are provided by private sector and thus more profit can be made.... It all just leaves me feeling really defeated.

Tiredemma · 30/12/2013 20:14

Thanks for the links to Communist dictators flatpack.

Not quite what I had in mind but there you go.

I attended school under a Tory Govt.

Thanks for asking

Hmm
MiniTheMinx · 30/12/2013 20:25

This Left-Right paradigm theorises that two opposing political parties Labour (left) and Conservative (right) create a illusion of choice, using propaganda and small differences in policy. By trying to draw our interest to the "perceived" differences in ideology and policy, it is ensured that no other radical politics can be pursued. This tactic allows a semblance of democratic politics whilst furthering the interests of the ruling class. It is highly unlikely that any labour party will persue socialist ideals, to do so would almost certainly confine them to the dustbin.

caroldecker · 30/12/2013 20:48

The pursuit of genuine socialist policies were consigned to the dustbin in the 80's when they were shown to be ineffectual and damaging across the world.
The trouble with the modern Labour party is its desire to bankrupt us.

5OBalesofHay · 30/12/2013 20:55

Argumentative scum Grin

cerealqueen · 30/12/2013 21:00

None of this surprises me, what surprises me is that people are surprised. Money and sex and power - they go hand in hand and any story with politicians involves a combination of at least two of these.

Mintyy · 30/12/2013 21:03

Awfully snobby of me but I am absolutely pmsl at the ignorant raging on this thread.

So, all countries with a socialist party in power are "killing millions".

Ffs, we really should have a minimum age requirement for joining Mumsnet.

CustardoPaidforIDSsYFronts · 30/12/2013 21:20

I have only read as far as nettletea's link i thought that was great nettletea, thank you

Loonytoonie · 30/12/2013 21:30

The mass graves of 130 million people should be some indicator of what's wrong with being a socialist.

Please elaborate. genuine request.
