The real problem, here where I can't vote and in the US where I can and do, is that there are only 2 choices.

The only way either country will see real change is for a third or more party to become a contender.

The APR is noted up front and made very clear, nobody is forced to use any payday loan company and its a decision they make as an adult. No point blaming it on other people, its like bank charges -the bank is always made out to be in the wrong despite the adult spending money that wasn't theres to spend.

All parties have flaws, there will never be a perfect one but at least these lot have the balls to make changes rather than just throw money at people. The free school meals for all young children is a waste of money but compared to tax credits that labour introduced its a drop in the ocean. People quit work or suddenly dropped to the magical sixteen hours, people asked how much in benefits they would get if they had another child etc. the cuts may not be popular with some but are with many who believe personal responsibility went out of the window a long time ago and people now just go on about entitlements.

What makes a good party will mean different things to different people.

People genuinely believe that under a Labour government in the UK, millions of UK citizens would be murdered.

It's not especially complicated to grasp - even for a socialist.

Essentially what happens is that socialists - the lovely snuggly ones who write for the Guardian and call right-wingers scum - get in to power and want to change things to make them lovely.

And they find that some horrible people object to those changes, so they accrue more power to the state to ensure that the loveliness continues and the horrible people can't stop that loveliness happening.

And then - somehow - a swivel-eyed maniac becomes 'president for life' and nobody can get rid of him because the socialists got rid of all the checks and balances in the political system because they were slowing the progress towards loveliness.

No-one suggested that the current Labour party is after killing millions, but socialism has in every country it has been tried in. The Labour party's problem is that it believes in fairy tales. It believes that everyone is wonderful, honest, caring and sharing - any different behaviour is down to upbringing, education failures and can be solved.
The tories realise that people are not like that and take advantage when they can - therefore policy is stick not carrot.
No-one is 'entitled' to benefits or support.
