Sorry Mail link

www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2531093/I-feel-like-not-body-anymore-Vegetarians-outrage-going-Nandos-served-chicken-mistake.html

She asked for grilled halloumi cheese pitta and was served chicken. Which she ate half and didn't realise as she was talking to her friend.

She tried to make herself sick and had to sent home from work the next day as she was so upset and feels her body is not her own anymore.

How you wouldn't be able to tell the difference between cheese and chicken is a little beyond me. The cheese would be gooey and runny and chicken would have chewy - and they both have completely difference tastes??

It doesn't mention this in the article but the server always comes over and says - "chicken burger with medium sauce" etc so surely they probably said chicken pitta to her too??

But maybe iabu because she has never had meat before for religious reasons.

You can get a neurological disease similar to BSE, called Kuru, from eating people

Ah but if you GM us and pump us full of anti-biotics you get the same effect as animal meat.

SilverApples · 30/12/2013 16:22

The halloumi and feta and Sussex cheeses that I eat are made from sheep's milk Johnny.

ashamedoverthinker · 30/12/2013 16:24

agree with ^

ashamedoverthinker · 30/12/2013 16:24

oops im too slow

AKAK81 · 30/12/2013 16:28
  • Hindus are vegetarian so saying you have no time for vegetarians is like saying you have no time for any Hindus.

So yes, borderlineracist in my opinion. Not out and out racist cuntishness but borderline racist.*

What an idiotic statment. Hindu isn't a race! I'm very anti religion btw but I treat all religions with the same contempt. However I do strongly believe anyone should be able to make their own choices in life I just have no time for anyone who preaches, whinges or otherwise goes on about it.

JohnnyBarthes · 30/12/2013 16:30

Alright, ornamental rams then. At least sheep can give wool I suppose, so they'd serve a purpose.

colleysxmasmillofcheer · 30/12/2013 16:30

This story reminded me of the time my mum accidentally fed my teenage self and dsis (strict veggies at the time) chicken and leeks cheese things thinking they were veggie friendly.

Now that reaction was ott even for teenagers - my sisters reaction of "you've poisoned me!" with dramatic run to the bathroom followed by my mum bellowing "i can't have poisoned you - that's marks and Spencers finest I bought!"

It's funny now 20 years on Grin I'd forgotten all about it til I read that story.

LaurieFairyCake · 30/12/2013 16:34

Yes if you say something against all people from India (who are mostly Hindus) then you are being racist.

Do you need a paint by numbers kit? Hmm

LightsPlease · 30/12/2013 16:35

Why so much nandos hate. I love nandos.

eightandthreequarters · 30/12/2013 16:35

I understand why she's upset, I'm veggie and wouldn't want to eat chicken, but... she is over-reacting. This story is essentially: fast food restaurant got order wrong. Fast food restaurants often get orders wrong. They work fast and mistakes happen. Thank goodness it wasn't a food allergy or she could have been very ill.

If they had served halloumi to someone intolerant of dairy, that would have been far worse.

This has also made me hungry for halloumi.

SuburbanRhonda · 30/12/2013 16:36

I presume you're ok with people who rant, though, AKAK.

Otherwise it would be, you know, a bit hypocritical, wouldn't it? Wink

SilverApples · 30/12/2013 16:37

At 316 calories per 100g?
You'll get fat, you know.

RandyRudolf · 30/12/2013 16:38

I agree AKAK81 , it's like those bloody Muslims harping on all the time. Look what happened, they went and got Halal served almost everywhere. Bloody pests, how very dare the preach and push their religious views on everyone else. Hmm

Norudeshitrequired · 30/12/2013 16:39

If the woman had a food allergy and was served something that made her ill despite notifying the server of her allergies at the time of ordering then I might understand, but her reaction is just OTT. It's a bit of chicken, nobody died from eating well cooked fresh chicken.
The fact that she had eaten most of the meal before noticing that it was chicken (in a predominantly chicken restaurant) says a lot about her own levels of food awareness.

Norudeshitrequired · 30/12/2013 16:40

BTW, I love nandos chicken pittas (medium hot) with ratatouille on the side, mmmmmmm

fuzzywuzzy · 30/12/2013 16:41

Bruffin I don't think he was dairy intolerant he ate Indian sweets which are made with milk and he took milk in his tea.

Haloumi cheese is suitable for vegetarians or has been every time I've eaten it.

DownstairsMixUp · 30/12/2013 16:43

Massive overreaction. I do feel bad for her but going to the papers is v. Ott. The veggie/meat eater thing i agree with silver here. You cant really tell. I have a few fat meat eater friends and veggie ones. Funny enough my friend turned veggie a year ago and was slim and seems to have replaced meat with sweets! Shes put on a good two stone.

AKAK81 · 30/12/2013 16:48

I agreeAKAK81, it's like those bloody Muslims harping on all the time. Look what happened, they went and got Halal served almost everywhere. Bloody pests, how very dare the preach and push their religious views on everyone else

Who cares? It has no impact on me - a dead animal is a dead animal. My only interest is how it tastes!

Gileswithachainsaw · 30/12/2013 16:48

I actually feel quite sorry for her.

I don't think we can really judge. I mean she's now dealing with the psychological and religious consequences of eating the meat and that's not for anyone to decide if she's over reacting or not.

I am confused at how she couldn't tell but that's because I've eaten both chicken and halloumi. The polystyrene style texture would be a dead give away to me. However I guess it's possible that if you are gassin away to a friend and there's lots of sauce and your expecting a chargrilled flavour anyway then I guess you could miss it.

I always inspect my food though as I never trust restaurants.

And AKak you sound lovely, Hmm you can't write off people for being vegetarian or vegan.

WorraLiberty · 30/12/2013 16:51

Saying "I have no time for vegetarians" is a really weird statement Confused

But trying to find a racist angle, is even bloody weirder Grin

AKAK81 · 30/12/2013 16:52

Do you need a paint by numbers kit?

You're clearly the one who's hard of thinking. It is you who have singled out Hindus. Not all Indians are Hindu, not all Hindus are Indian and not all Hindus are strictly vegetarian. I'm thinking of another word that begins with 'r' to describe you!

Dawndonnaagain · 30/12/2013 16:58

So you don't think her being sent home the next day because she's so distressed and her selling her story to the papers is a tad overreacting?

ok....
No I don't. And how do you know she 'sold her story' to the papers. The story was taken from the Birmingham Mail, a local paper unlikely to pay for a story. It may have come from somebody who worked there, or the person she was out with.

RandyRudolf · 30/12/2013 16:58

hard of thinking Confused

Jellytotsforme · 30/12/2013 17:00

Contacting the media - overreacting.

Being very upset and feeling revolted - not overreacting

JohnnyBarthes · 30/12/2013 17:01

I do often contemplate going kind of vegetarian for health and environmental reasons, or pescetarian. I can't get upset about mussels.

Maybe no red meat and little dairy or something, but the odd chicken and a bit of naice veal.
