Sorry Mail link

www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2531093/I-feel-like-not-body-anymore-Vegetarians-outrage-going-Nandos-served-chicken-mistake.html

She asked for grilled halloumi cheese pitta and was served chicken. Which she ate half and didn't realise as she was talking to her friend.

She tried to make herself sick and had to sent home from work the next day as she was so upset and feels her body is not her own anymore.

How you wouldn't be able to tell the difference between cheese and chicken is a little beyond me. The cheese would be gooey and runny and chicken would have chewy - and they both have completely difference tastes??

It doesn't mention this in the article but the server always comes over and says - "chicken burger with medium sauce" etc so surely they probably said chicken pitta to her too??

But maybe iabu because she has never had meat before for religious reasons.

yabu. How would you feel if you were accidentally served human? I KNOW that it is not the same and people may shoot me down because culturally it is considered unthinkable, but to some people eating meat is on the same scale.

WorraLiberty · 30/12/2013 17:03

Dawn, she still posed for the photographs and spoke to the media, no matter who contacted them.

I don't blame her for being peeved or even upset, but I do think she's milking it somewhat.

Norudeshitrequired · 30/12/2013 17:04

Depends whether the consumption of a human was in a country where cannibalism is legal (there isn't one) and whether it tasted good. Eating humans is illegal so for that reason I would have a problem with it.

Rufustherednosedreindeer · 30/12/2013 17:06

Being upset is fair enough but I agree that having a day off work is a bit over the top

Wonder what her employer thought of that excuse?

And she may not be able to tell the difference between the two if she has never eaten chicken or halloumi

SundaySimmons · 30/12/2013 17:08

I'm a vegetarian. I always check my food before eating. I ask staff, if they are unsure I ask to speak to a manager or even the chef.

If in any doubt or suspect the restaurant are not sure of an ingredient then I order salad.

JohnnyBarthes · 30/12/2013 17:08

mew comparing animal and human flesh consumption is ridiculous, and anyone who would be as upset about scoffing a bit of pancetta as they would a morsel of person is barking.

SilverApples · 30/12/2013 17:09

Maybe she's hoping that by making a fuss, Nandos will change its policy, or adhere to it more strictly. So that in future, someone like me could order a halloumi wrap and be sure that's what I was eating.

redshifter · 30/12/2013 17:09

I agree with WorraLiberty

I have no time for vegetarians = Weird

Calling this racist = ridiculous

Rufustherednosedreindeer · 30/12/2013 17:09

norudeshit

I think there are a few countries where it isn't strictly speaking illegal as long as you obtained the body legally

LaurieFairyCake · 30/12/2013 17:09

Really Akak, what 'R' word would you like to call me?

Go on, I dare you.

Make yourself even more unlikeable.

FurryDogMother · 30/12/2013 17:10

I'm an unapologetic meat eater - but I would feel totally sick if I ever found out I'd eaten dog (which is my personal thing, I know, not necessarily logical, but it's how I'd react) - so I can understand how someone whose food choices have been inadvertently compromised might feel. Having said that, I think this woman is being a bit extreme taking time off work the following day, and going to the media about it. Then again, the more I think about it, the more I think I'd feel disgusted for quite some time, and maybe have an extreme reaction - the bit I really don't get is how it negates the previous 28 yrs of adhering to her food choices. That's the strange part, for me.

SilverApples · 30/12/2013 17:10

Why Johnny, they are both dead?
I'm not advocating slaughtering humans unless in a life or death situation, but pancetta in a Soylent Green wrap? Both would be equally problematic or not for me.
Dead meat is dead meat.

SilverApples · 30/12/2013 17:13

Long ago, and several name-changes past, Tethersend and I planned a Korean Barbecue joint adjacent to Battersea dogs home. Mainly supplied by all those unwanted staffies, but other dogs considered.
Floating on the river, I recall.

RandyRudolf · 30/12/2013 17:14

I'm with Silver and if circumstances dictated I think we would all end up eating human flesh anyway. Remember the flight that crashed in the Andes and the passengers had to eat the dead? It's a state of mind.

LaurieFairyCake · 30/12/2013 17:15

To be fair human flesh wouldn't be your first choice after the wee packets of peanuts had been eaten Grin

silverbaubles · 30/12/2013 17:15

I have not eaten meat for thirty years. Some weeks ago I ordered a quorn burger at a local cafe. As I bit into it I immediately realised it was not quorn.

Turns out it was a chicken burger. Similar things have happened to me over the years. I find it hard to believe she did not know what she was eating.

I find it odd that she would even eat at a Nando's!

I do sympathise with her but going to the press is a total over reaction. She needs to get a grip

WorraLiberty · 30/12/2013 17:15

Silver, I imagine your meatballs would have been the dog's bollocks...

Grin
redshifter · 30/12/2013 17:16

It is not illegal in UK to eat human parts or human products.

SilverApples · 30/12/2013 17:17

I like things to be what they say they are Worra. Xmas Grin

mewmeow · 30/12/2013 17:17

Yeah, but if you bit into a burger in a restaurant thinking it was beef and it turned out to be human you might suffersome shock, illness, maybe even enough to shock, horror miss work.

Eating it in a survival situation would be very different.

SilverApples · 30/12/2013 17:18

Look at all the foolish yip-yipping from omnivores when they found horse in their meat dishes.
FFS

WorraLiberty · 30/12/2013 17:19

I like things to be what they say they are Worra. Grin

Please tell me Spotted Dick is off the menu! Shock

RandyRudolf · 30/12/2013 17:20

It amuses me watching Celebrity Get me out of here Jungle thingy when they cringe at eating Wallaby bollocks or Kangaroo dick. They'll eat questionable sausages from the supermarket though. I'd have to draw the line at eating eyeballs, it's just the soft centre that puts me off.

SilverApples · 30/12/2013 17:21

Do Battersea have many dalmatians for rehoming?
Might have to be a speciality order.

LaurieFairyCake · 30/12/2013 17:23

Wish I'd never started arguing with Akak, just seen that on another thread he said he would save his dog over a strangers child Confused

I'm a dog lover obviously but that shows where humans/vegetarians comes in Akaks order.
