Seriously spent so many years as a child not having a birthday because well,you know you can double up. I know I should be too old to care but happy birthday to me. Anyone who says birthdays aren't a big deal - does not have a christmas one.

My dd1 has her birthday on Friday, 27th, I've always been really careful to ake sure it's a seperate event. You enjoy yourself.

Happy birthday to you! Mines the 29th so I do know how you feel.most years it's like I don't have a birthday at all. I think the only way to cope is to choose a date, say in Jan and have that as your birthday celebrations. I did that when I turned 40 and it was great!

My birthday was last week & Ds1's is today so completely feel your pain. I vowed ds will always have a proper birthday, with presents just for birthday. Really unfair if people double up for a child.

It is my cousins birthday today too - we always make a big fuss of her. Her Mum never used to put up decorations until really really early Christmas morning until one year my cousin complained that all her friends had had theirs up aaaaaageeeeeeeeeeeesssssssssss and her Mum told her she didn't put theirs up so that her birthday would feel more special and she was very (6yo hands on hips) I would feel much more special if the house looked pretty - seems you can't do right for doing wrong

It must be totally crap when you are 'Mum' though :(

Last year was my first single mum Christmas by a series of astonishing coincidences I ended up spending it with another single mum friend at very short notice.

Her birthday is Xmas day and I made her a lovely card and bought her a very thoughtful present wrapped in paper that said happy birthday on it.

I did not get her or her baby dd a Xmas present although I did cover all the food costs.

It was very well received
