Seriously spent so many years as a child not having a birthday because well, you know you can double up. I know I should be too old to care but happy birthday to me. Anyone who says birthdays aren't a big deal - does not have a christmas one.

Thanks Cake Wine happy birthday!
mine is 22nd but I am very lucky with my family who always buy me stuff and make a fuss, dh even goes out of his way to find a birthday card that is sometimes hard to find amongst all the Xmas cards.
If your family and friends are not being very considerate maybe you should change your day and celebrate in another month you might need to organise it yourself at first and throw a party or invite some friends to a restaurant, but tell them it is to celebrate your birthday as the actual day is too close to Christmas. They will probably bring gifts. Then if it goes well you can do it every year.

hooochycoo · 24/12/2013 12:25

My gran's birthday was on Christmas Day, which was nice as it used to ensure the whole family, all cousins, got together at Christmas for her birthday. And besides insisting on separate presents and paper, she was gracious and kind and didn't get grumpy about it. Just enjoyed the positives.

My nephew's birthday is on Boxing Day, and that sadly means that we can never get together as a family, and my kids don't see their cousins at Christmas now because his mum always insists they can't travel anywhere because of his birthday.

I have two friends with December 27th birthdays who hate it. And a friend who's birthday is jan 1st, which he swears is worse, because NOONE is in the mood to celebrate.

I think as a rule people should just not shag atall in March.

oooh i know exactly what you mean. Mine is boxing day and its rubbish! i actually had a big rant about it last year and all my family have promised to make an effort to actually acknowledge it this year - we'll see.....

nannynome · 24/12/2013 12:33

happy birthday!! I am due to be induced on boxing day, we are thinking we might have an Unbirthday in the summer for our son so he gets a birthday separate from christmas. Happy Birthday everyone who is around now!

TeWiSavesTheDay · 24/12/2013 12:34

Happy Birthday!

We've got a very happy birthday boy in the house today.

Gossipmonster · 24/12/2013 12:37

DSD is Boxing Day :(

IamInvisible · 24/12/2013 12:42

Happy Birthday! Cake Flowers Wine

It's DS2's today. He is 17. The only person who has ever doubled up is MIL, and for DS1's whose is the 14th, "because December is such an expensive month!"Hmm Yet last year they bough a £7k sofa and a £21k car, cash, in December so DH did say something.

We usually go out to lunch, but DS1 is at work and DH is in the Falklands with the Forces. When he was small we always took him and a friend to the cinema or bowling and for pizza afterwards.

I have made him a birthday cake, he has got a super dooper phone and once he has had his shoulder fixed and is all better he can have his driving lessons. So he is a happy chappie!

learnasyougo · 24/12/2013 12:45

mine is ten days from xmas and it is not only annoying, a swindle with the 'joint xmas and birthday present', but for a child Ormskirk a looooong wait between present season. a whole year each time. I wish my parents had celebrated half-birthdays instead of birthdays. Sad

PersonalClown · 24/12/2013 12:49

Happy Birthday to everyone having a Christmas/New Year birthday.

Mine's Friday and I can guarantee that I'll get money or vouchers as everyone forgets.
I don't mind now as my tastes are very different to my family but when I was younger, it really pissed me off not to have another gift to open.

I'm treating myself to Harley Quinn and Joker figurines this year

coldwater1 · 24/12/2013 12:51

My son was born on 20th december and i'll always make sure we celebrate it separately. Happy Birthday!

Groovee · 24/12/2013 13:29

YANBU Happy Birthday. I am the 17th and one year my friends gave me a present on my birthday and said I couldn't open until Christmas. The following July I have them a present wrapped in christmas paper and told them not to open it til Christmas and what a fab idea to save me money too. They never did that again!

MuddlingMackem · 24/12/2013 13:59

DS's birthday is 19th December, DD's is September, so they both get a little present at Easter instead of an egg from us. As someone upthread said it's a long time between present occasions with a December birthday.

He had parties when he was younger, but we really just invited children whose parents were our friends as they would make the effort to attend. Now the kids are older they're doing Christmas stuff with their hobby groups, so we just do tea out and the cinema as a family. He just turned 10 but maybe once he's at the seniors he and his friends will be able to organise a birthday celebration without needing parental input.

123rd · 24/12/2013 14:01

My dads bday today. And we always try and get together for his bday-but always end up exchanging Xmas pressies too. It's a bugger finding a decent bday card at this time of year too

blueberryboybait · 24/12/2013 14:04

It is mine today too, DH has had a cold the last few days so hasn't been able to get out - Well Think of it more than 3 days before then!

jamdonut · 24/12/2013 14:12

My DD will be 17 on 2nd January. She won't let me take the decorations down till after her birthday, because it makes her feel special!

We've always tried to make birthday and christmas very separate, though.

She was due on 26th December, and I spent that Christmas on tenterhooks wondering if she was going to put in an appearance!!

I have great trouble finding decent cards at this time of year...I got told in a card shop once that they don't really put them out because "No-one has birthdays this time of year!" Xmas Hmm

Happy birthday!! My DD has hers on the 21st so I'm expecting it to annoy her as she gets older...at the moment all she cares about is two days so close together where she gets presents!

SueDoku · 24/12/2013 14:54

Happy Birthday to all on this thread Cake My DGD was born on 28th Dec last year, so I am taking notes of all the clever ideas on here for future use..! Flowers

FurryDogMother · 24/12/2013 14:59

Happy birthday :) I'm lucky, mine's in June, so a good 6 months away from Christmas. Could you not do a Queenie, and have an 'official' birthday sometime in the summer?

MilkOneSugar · 24/12/2013 15:16

Thank you to everyone who has posted birthday wishes for my DD Smile.

We're having a lovely day here, went bowling and to a playgym. I've decided to start a new rule - today is the 24th December, DD's birthday. It is NOT Christmas Eve until after 6.00pm when the elves usually drop off the DC's new Christmas pyjamas. So no mention of Christmas on this day until 6.00pm.

I'm also taking notes. I have in the past considered maybe letting DD2 have a couple of presents on DD1's summer birthday and vice versa so she's not going so long between receiving presents. In effect it would be a half birthday which I know gets mixed reviews on here.

I love the idea of letting DD decide how to play it as she gets older as a pp said. I know most people with a festive birthday feel quite bitter about it due to things like joint presents and Christmas wrapping paper so I'm hoping to avoid her feeling like that by letting her know that to is at least, it's a very big deal that it's her birthday today.

Scrummummy · 24/12/2013 15:16
