Seriously spent so many years as a child not having a birthday because well, you know you can double up. I know I should be too old to care but happy birthday to me. Anyone who says birthdays aren't a big deal - does not have a christmas one.

Happy birthday OP. I'll just have a water please Grin

DS' is the 16th, I'm hoping it's far away enough that he gets 2 days.

Happy birthday op FlowersCake.

My DD's birthday is today too which is the reason I'm up so late wrapping presents. I am determined to make her birthday a separate event. I've decorated the front room with birthday banners and balloons.

My pet hate is people wrapping her 'birthday' presents in Christmas paper. I can totally understand the temptation and convenience but I bet they wouldn't dare do that for a birthday in July Hmm.

She has a party booked for the weekend between Christmas and New Years but not many got back to me. But I guess that's usual at any time of year.

Have a lovely birthday anyway and happy birthday to those with birthdays coming up over the next couple of weeks.

readyforthehills · 24/12/2013 01:37

Oh your lucky girl! If people haven't got back to you its most likely down to the rudeness christmas exaberates.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY MILKONESUGAR'S DAUGHTER!

Thank you so much readyforthehills, I must be a bit delirious with tiredness but that has just made me very happy Grin.

I've just read the thread from the mum with the two year old whose birthday is around Christmas and she's also having problems with organising his party. I think posters are being a bit blunt with her but unless you have a festive birthday or a DC with one, you can't really understand how annoying it is to never feel you get a 'proper' birthday of your own.

My DFather's birthday is NYE and he absolutely HATES it. It doesn't help that he's never been a drinker so never wanted to celebrate by going out drinking like most do on NYE. Again, we always make sure we buy him seperate Christmas and birthday presents.

Happy birthday ready and milk no sugar's dd!!

My uncle is 60 today, and tonight we will drive for an hour to meet up with 20+ family members to have dinner as we do every year on this date.

On arrival we all say Happy Birthday etc, we give birthday cards/presents etc, have a birthday cake for dessert. Then on leaving we all do the secret kids Christmas present swap and finish up saying Happy Christmas!

Until the end it's a birthday party, then it becomes a Christmas gathering. Best of both.

I just love seeing my family no matter what the reason.

Happy Birthday

readyforthehills · 24/12/2013 02:16

Honestly I just wanted to childishly rant about how it's not fair that my birthday falls at christmas. I haven't seen and don't intend to look at any other threads. ITS JUST NOT FAIR! Stamps feet!

Responses were wonderful though.

There is not one person in my life who will say happy birthday to me without christmas being the first thing in their head.

Happy Birthday Ready honey!!

I promise I didn't think of Christmas first. Grin

My DBro has his birthday on Boxing Day and DM used to organise "half birthday" parties for him in the summer due to the difficulty of organising Christmas holiday parties. For a few years the poor boy had no idea how old he was. "Well I was 6 on my birthday, and now I'm having a party so I must be 7, and I'll turn 8 next Christmas"

ThePost · 24/12/2013 05:32

Happy birthday! Thanks No present is a bit piss poor from your family. You share a birthday with my DD2 and we do make a big effort to make it distinct from Christmas.

TheWomanTheyCallJayne · 24/12/2013 09:46

My mil's (and my grans) birthdays are on Christmas Day.
We celebrate Christmas in the morning then mil's birthday in the afternoon. In some ways it's good because it means everyone is off work and available and we're all there to celebrate with her.

My BILs birthday is the 23rd and he's always been really sensitive about it as he's grown up with people either getting h nothing and giving double at Christmas or wrapping his presents in Christmas wrap etc.

So yesterday when the dc have him his card and presents with a resounding 'Merry Christmas Uncle T!' Was fabulous Hmm

mylittlesunshine · 24/12/2013 09:52

Happy birthday!

It was my DH's birthday yesterday and he said it was always a shared event with Christmas when he was young. It was a milestone birthday so I got him quite a special present and he was so surprised I had given him it on his actual birthday as big gifts got given at Christmas as a shared event gift. People just get so wrapped up in Christmas and don't really think I suppose...

Hope you have a brilliant day!

HerlockSholmes · 24/12/2013 09:56

Happy Birthday OP! Hope you have a lovely day CakeThanks

my friend's birthday is on the 27th, and in the past i always made an effort to get her a seperate present. this year however, she has had a royal falling out with me because i can't travel to glasgow to go out with her on her birthday.

AlexTurnersmicropone · 24/12/2013 09:59

Happy Birthday! I feel your pain, mine is the 29th.

Indith · 24/12/2013 10:05

Happy Birthday!

My dd's birthday yesterday, we leave it entirely up to her how Christmassy her birthday gets. All relatives MUST have her presents to us for her birthday, rocking up on Christmas day and handing over 2 presents is banned. Opening Christmas presents on her birthday because that is when we are seeing that set of relatives is also banned. The only gifts opened on her birthday are her birthday gifts.

I like to leave putting the tree up until as late as possible anyway, though I tend to get overruled by children. Dd gets to choose when it goes up. This year was before her birthday. She also asked specifically to have christmas music to play at her birthday party for the games. The point is though it is up to her.

Birthdays as a grown up can be a bit crap whenever it is though. At least at this time of year a lot of people are on holiday and family is gathering round, even if it isn't in honour of your birthday. My 30th was in September. A not unsignificant birthday. As it happened my shifts fel so that I was working either side but not on the day. however I was working the day before, I was starting early the next day so couldn't drink at all. Then I spent half the day itself at a child's birthday party. We didn't do anything apart from have a half arsed cake.

Happy Birthday Grin

My DD's birthday is 2nd Jan which she will appreviate in her late teens/early twenties no doubt but for now we take the Xmas decorations down on NY day and have her birthday party mid-february. I've found people are much more likely to let their kids attend if I put a payday between Xmas and her birthday.

She does get all her family presents on her actual birthday mind.

She basically has a month of presents come to think of it...
