The French of today do, because they are the folk who say Oui.

That's kind of the point....

landrover · 21/12/2013 20:40

So how the hell do you pronouns moet then?

MadameDefarge · 21/12/2013 20:40

and for the pretentious pedants amongst you, and the keen students of esoteria,

'Sub specie aeternitatis, from the Philosophical Dictionary,[1] Latin for "under the aspect of eternity"; hence, from Spinoza onwards, an honorific expression describing what is universally and eternally true, without any reference to or dependence upon the merely temporal portions of reality.
In clearer English, sub specie aeternitatis roughly means "from the perspective of the eternal". Even more loosely, the phrase is used to describe an alternative or objective point of view.'

Salmotrutta · 21/12/2013 20:41

You sound all lovely and warm and fluffy womma.

MadameDefarge · 21/12/2013 20:41

Beastofburden · 21/12/2013 20:41

Beastofburden · 21/12/2013 20:42

ThreeWisePerpendicularVinces · 21/12/2013 20:51

I need to throw 'sub specie aeternitatis' into general conversation so I sound educated.

womma · 21/12/2013 20:52

Boring, petty, smug and superior.

MadameDefarge · 21/12/2013 20:53

Jinglebellsforthebetter · 21/12/2013 20:53

Madame D Smile

Happy memories of a lifetime away - before nappies, teething, school reports, child benefit, divorce and a zillion other wrangles, I used to think about this stuff and wrote about Spinoza as a post grad.........

I think it should be a topic on its own on MN (discussion of mum-jeans and bathroom tiles banned Wink)

johnworf · 21/12/2013 20:56

When I bought some from Space NK the assistant pronounced it 'losh eee tan'.

Confused Confused

KrabbyPatty · 21/12/2013 20:58

Lol at Locky Tain.

It's lox-ee-tahn.

And Moet is mwet.

MadameDefarge · 21/12/2013 20:58

thing is, occi will be pronounced in different ways according to regional variations in France, and unconsciously according to the mother tongue of the speaker.

So the space NK assistant may have come from a country where that would be the natural pronunciation.

2Tinsellytocare · 21/12/2013 21:00
