Especially when friends and family call it "LOCKY TAIN"?

I pronounce it Loxee Tan and will continue to do so. The fact that Lock See Tan amounts to the same thing will not deter me.

StarsUponThars · 21/12/2013 17:14

Bloody phone put the dot things, then bloody app mucked them up. Bah.

ComposHat · 21/12/2013 17:16

Cheers mardy! I watched the vid on their website and was still no clearer about what it was. I enjoyed the gypsy jazz guitar on the soundtrack though.

FastWindow · 21/12/2013 17:18

stars the dots are above the e so your app helped you out there Smile

Echocave · 21/12/2013 17:48

I thought it was French ( now very confused!). I'm bilingual as my Mum was French and I've always thought it was pronounced 'lo-kee-tan'. But it seems I am mistaken...

CinderToffee · 21/12/2013 17:54

I think it is pronounced that way because the name comes from Occitan rather than French. It's a minority language spoken in parts of Southern France and Northern Spain.

Anniemousse · 21/12/2013 18:01

I thought mumsnet taught me 'Moet' was mwet? Not mow-ett (as non-french speaker no. 1 might say).

BumPotato · 21/12/2013 18:03

Why the fuck do you give a flying fuck?

SilverApples · 21/12/2013 18:05

Why is it pretentious to use a word correctly, or pronounce a name how it is supposed to be said?
That's just daft.

BerryLellow · 21/12/2013 18:07

Yes moet is mwet. But I still feel a twat saying it like that!

TalcAndTurnips · 21/12/2013 18:11

Mardy you lovely lady. You are sadly deluded.

The pronunciation is, of course,

MardyBra · 21/12/2013 18:19

"Why the fuck do you give a flying fuck?"

I refuse to put "light-hearted" in a thread title to pander to the thread dementors who want to suck the life-force and fun out of MN.

Thanks Talc. Am practising now.

I love their Shea butter hand cream. I will try remember the correct pronunciation now that you've pointed it out. Don't know that I've ever said it out loud, but I was another who thought it was locky tan.

Salmotrutta · 21/12/2013 18:22

If I'm not quite sure about pronunciation (things like chorizo, ciabatta etc.) I just sort of point and mumble.

Whilst shuffling my feet awkwardly of course... Grin

Salmotrutta · 21/12/2013 18:23

So it's La-Cocky-Cocky-Taney then? Grin

MardyBra · 21/12/2013 18:24

I had a chorizo thread a couple of months ago. Yes, I am obsessed with pronunciations.

Chor-eth-o btw.

Xmas Grin Talc

You made me guffaw!

MardyBra · 21/12/2013 18:26

I quite like La-Cocky-Cocky-Taney.

Thank you, by the way! Grin

I can hold my head up in the deli section now! Grin

TalcAndTurnips · 21/12/2013 18:28

Salmo - it's been La-Cocky-Cocky-taney in this house, ever since seeing that delightful YouTube explanation.

The assistant in John Lewis had clearly not been so enlightened, however. I saw her fumbling for the panic button under the desk on more than one occasion (pronounced Ockey-Ockey-A-Shun).

MardyBra · 21/12/2013 18:29

And "Che batta"

Although BIL calls it kya-batta.

Salmotrutta · 21/12/2013 18:31

Oh thank you.

I always feel like a plum when I'm unsure about pronounciation!

Salmotrutta · 21/12/2013 18:32

Talc you do make me laugh! Grin
