I've had lots of things stolen by the Royal Mail over the years, including a passport, presents, all kinds of things.

This week after waiting 2 weeks for an ebay parcel to arrive I contacted the seller, they said I should go to the local sorting office to see if my parcel was there, as the Royal Mail often forget to leave calling cards. So, I waited 45 minutes in freezing cold queue that went around the block. I explained to the staff that my parcel had gone missing and could they check if they had it. They managed to find my parcel, brought it to me, I showed them my ID. Then they said I couldn't have my parcel becuase I didn't have the calling card (the one I wasn't given in the first place, the one they had forgotten to post). They said I could be someone else living at my address. But why would someone else have my ID? What's the point of ID then? And why did they bother to find my ID, only to then tell me I couldn't have it? So now, they have stolen my parcel.

Also, on Monday they left a calling card for an envelope size parcel, one that would very easily have fit through my letterbox, I think this must have been a joke. So another very long and cold wait at the sorting office.

They are rubbish and their prices are crazy.

YABU

My postie has been nothing less than brilliant.

As far as I know, all my mail has got where it has supposed to.

getdownshep · 20/12/2013 21:08

My post woman is lovely, works bloody hard.
YABU

happybubblebrain · 20/12/2013 21:10

We all work hard. I'm not saying your postman is SHIT. I just think Royal Mail policies and service ar SHIT. I'm sure it will get worse when it's privitised, most things do, but that doesn't mean it isn't SHIT now.

OP posts:
Writerwannabe83 · 20/12/2013 21:13

My Postman is always putting letters through my letterbox for someone else - it is such a pain in the arse. I either have to take the letters myself to the rightful owners or find a letter box, re-post them and hope they end up at the right house. Both options are annoying!!

BillyBanter · 20/12/2013 21:13

YABU.

Even though the bosses and politicians have been determined to make it as shit as possible for everyone working there and the customers for quite a few years now.

happybubblebrain · 20/12/2013 21:15

So if Royal Mail are willing to give you mail that isn't yours, then why aren't they willing to give me my own mail? They are a right royal pain in the arse.

I have just shelled out for their redirection service. I am too cross to answer.

starsandunicorns · 20/12/2013 21:17

Ok so 60p for a letter from say portsmouth to glasgow to higher price do you know how many people could sort that one letter could rain snow high winds do you know how many times it goes onto different wagon or a plane to get that obe letter that may of been sent at 4:55pm to be in a persons house on their door mat at say 1pm

littlemisssarcastic · 20/12/2013 21:19

My postman is lovely. He hides my parcels and always gives me a thumbs up when he drives past.

My mums postman is shite. He leaves parcels in a communal bin area, doesn't put a card through the letter box to tell her a parcel is on the bins, he doesn't knock either, so my mother has to pop her head out of the door every half hour to check if he has been.
Just to add, hermes don't knock or leave a card either, they also leave parcels in the bin area.
Yodel OTOH knock on the door, and when my mother hasn't been in, they leave a card.

YANBU. It all depends on the individual postman imo.

FWIW, I have also had post stolen, post ripped open, and my sister has been receiving post from 6 years ago in the last week, due to a postman having been found hoarding post rather than delivering it from 6 years ago. Apparently lots of people in the same area are affected.

Posties are human and as such, there are good and bad.

ShatnersBassoon · 20/12/2013 21:20

Did you need photo ID? Was that the problem?

What have they done with the parcel?

happybubblebrain · 20/12/2013 21:20

I am sure this is a filtering down from government, I have experienced this at my work too. I'm sure they are doing it so then everyone complains and everyone feels its fine to privitise (which it isn't). I'm the last person to agree with privitisation of anything. But I'm still going to complain about shockingly bad service whenever I see it and ridiculous policies. I know it's not the fault of the workers. But Royal Mail have stolen my belongings because of ridiculous policy and I'm pissed off.

Writerwannabe83 · 20/12/2013 21:20

happy - maybe you live in the house whose mail I'm always being sent? Grin I actually feel bad for the couple whose pits we are always receiving because we get a lot of obviously important things! I would hate to be them, always wondering if their post was going somewhere else and if the recipients are the type of people to just bin it. Currently being inundated with Christmad a Cards for them. We have also recently received a pair of beautiful, and expensive baby shoes that were meant for them -we only know it was baby wear because my cats ate their way into the package. I was very embarrassed when I had to hand deliver them and explain why they were dripping with cat saliva... Hmm

RabbitRabbit78 · 20/12/2013 21:21

YANBU

Thieving, lying bastards.

happybubblebrain · 20/12/2013 21:21

I had loads of ID with me, every kind of ID. I just didn't have the calling card they hadn't left in the first place. But it's "policy" that you have to have it, even when you haven't got it and never had it. See how ridiculous it is.

OP posts:
ShatnersBassoon · 20/12/2013 21:23

That's crap. What have they now done with the parcel?

WreckTangle · 20/12/2013 21:25

Never had a problem with them.

starsandunicorns · 20/12/2013 21:25

My dp works for royal mail threw a angency I have also worked for royal mail threw a angency but different roles neither myself or my dp and the royal mail staff we know are theiving bastards thanks the angency staff are crb checked every three months

happybubblebrain · 20/12/2013 21:29

They said I couldn't have my parcel without the calling card, and that is that. I've already complained to everyone and sent a formal complaint to Royal Mail. If they don't repost it I will kick up a huge stink. If, they do repost it, I'll still think their policy and service is SHIT and avoid using them again.

OP posts:
Thatballwasin · 20/12/2013 21:31

Generally I'd say they are the best of the delivery services (and my uncle was a RM postie his entire career). However I was really pissed off on my due date with DD2 as a delivery card was posted through the door without the postie every trying to deliver it. I heard the flap go and the letters hit the floor. A little while later I heaved my vast bulk up got up to get the mail and realised there was a card. By the time I realised this the postman had gone. No one had knocked so postie had obviously assumed no one would be in and just posted the card. It was something baby relates I needed so had to get it, guy at sorting office (a bus ride away) looked really embarrassed when I complained. Normally would say the service is good through.

The Body Shop have an amazing thing going in at the moment, giving an hour window that day for delivery of your goods and if you're not in you can just change the date there and then.

MrsGrasshead · 20/12/2013 21:32

I think post offices are a bit shite these days - massive queues whilst the staff seem to walk around in slow motion, offering insurance to everyone and anybody whilst there's a mahoosive queue all out the door they seem to be blissfully unaware of.

But in general - letters do arrive. Maybe not when you paid for them to, but eventually.

I think it could be worse.

happybubblebrain · 20/12/2013 21:34

Maybe they are the best of a bad bunch, I don't have too much experience of the others - they must be bad.

OP posts:
happybubblebrain · 20/12/2013 21:37

I completely agree about the staff in slow motion. I didn't know it was possible to move that slowly until I saw it. An hour long queue outside in the cold and staff acting like they have until next July to get a parcel. If I was that slow at work I'd be sacked within a week.

I agree, I get most of my post, none of my bills have ever gone astray.

I'm always glad when a company uses Royal Mail rather than another company!

happybubblebrain · 20/12/2013 21:42

Great, well I'm off to complain elsewhere now that I've ticked mumsent off my list.
