To spend £1,000 on a 4 night Butlins Bognor break?

Worriedkat · 19/12/2013 22:11

That's the quote for 4 nights in a 3 bed gold apartment in the Easter hols, with the cheaper breakfast/dinner option. Sounds a lot of money, would it be worth it? Just want a post winter break with stuff to keep the boys amused (9, 6 & 3) while I sit and feel knackered

Shock

I've been to New York for less than that. And Egypt !

Butlins? Farking hell

ApocalypseCheeseToastie · 19/12/2013 22:14

I wouldn't pay that........you can.hire a caravan with washing.machine etc.for.a lot less.

Kbear · 19/12/2013 22:15

no it's shite - don't go, honestly

book Sandy Balls or another caravan site with a pool and entertainment

lougle · 19/12/2013 22:17

It depends. Would you go to Butlins for a day trip if the entrance price for the day was £200?

I know I wouldn't

tshirtsuntan · 19/12/2013 22:18

It's ok, not that great. We stayed in hotel which was nice with good food but there's not that much to do.Pool was always absolutely rammed and smelt very strongly of chlorine. This was a term time mid week break. Sorry I don't have any suggestions but I think you could probably do better for the money. I know some people absolutely love it and can probably highlight the good points for you but for us it wasn't worth the money.

lessonsintightropes · 19/12/2013 22:22

You can get an Easyjet holiday to a beautiful spa (pools kid-friendly) hotel in an apartment for four for four nights in Madeira which is the most beautiful place I've ever been for half that. Don't do it! (But do check Trip Advisor and be picky about which hotel you select if you take the Eastjet option.)

PurpleJellyDisc · 19/12/2013 22:22

Don't do it!

lifeinthefastlane1 · 19/12/2013 22:36

dont do it they are ramming the prices up for school holidays , its not worth it! you could go somewhere better for that money, ( and I like butlins at the right price)

AlpacaPicnic · 19/12/2013 23:24

With that kind of kiney to spend, I'd be going to Florida. Better weather, lovely Americans, yummy American diner food...

AlpacaPicnic · 19/12/2013 23:24

Kiney?.. Ffs.
Money.

SavoyCabbage · 19/12/2013 23:26

Hell no! A thousand of your English pounds! A thousand. For a week. No. It would be madness.

Lottiedoubtie · 19/12/2013 23:26

Don't do it.

You could easily book somewhere nicer for that money.

JohnCusacksWife · 19/12/2013 23:27

Are you insane??

StayAwayFromDeliriumDive · 19/12/2013 23:28

God no - a weekend in Europe or a beautiful cottage in the UK would be so much better.

leftkidney · 19/12/2013 23:54

Up to you how you spend your money but if I was spending £1000 I'd expect a bit more than that.

PosyNarker · 20/12/2013 00:30

Hell no, never.

You could probably get a long weekend at Eurodisney for the same price half board. If that's not your thing, you could certainly get a cheaper weekend away somewhere more interesting, with better facilities and as much / more to do.

Sadly UK hotel prices are relatively high (I realise this is not true if you are a hotel owner) and EasyJet or if you can stomach it Ryanair flight are dirt cheap.

OP I know it's a totally different scenario, but I spent a similar amount on a 3 day weekend for a milestone birthday. That covered, me, DP, a room that was classed as 4 star but luxury (it really was lovely, just didn't have minibar & was in a separate building to the breakfast room), access to pool & gym, 2hrs of spa treatments for both of us and all meals, including a night in their 'posh' restaurant with the tasting menu & accompanying wines.

It depends on your preferences of course & I admit I would find Butlins a bit cheap and tacky, but that's my own prejudices / experiences not yours. Having said that it's a good sum and I genuinely do think you could get more for your money, esp given how little the younger ones are.

CustardoPaidforIDSsYFronts · 20/12/2013 00:31

why wouldnt you go somewhere hot

for longer

with a kids club

and a pool?

citybranch · 20/12/2013 00:36

Ooh lessonsintightropes I'd love the hotel recommendation in Madeira if you wouldn't mind sharing?

SantasLittleMonkeyButler · 20/12/2013 00:36

If you want to go on a weekend break in the UK, I would say wait until January 4th/5th when the Sun starts its £9.50 holidays promotion.

Even if you would never read the Sun, it is still a good deal.

Tulip26 · 20/12/2013 00:37

You can get a weekend in Barcelona for that money! Bugger Bogner!

Badvocatyuletide · 20/12/2013 00:39

Fuck no

GobbySadcase · 20/12/2013 00:41

YABU.
It's a shithole.

HOMEQCRICH · 20/12/2013 00:50

Nerja spain apartments are around 400 pw. The ones I have looked at for august are around 700 pw.. a static caravan in tenby is more than that! yes there are flights on top but it will probably piss down in tenby! I've been to Tenby in the rain enough!

DumSpiroSperHoHoHo · 20/12/2013 01:36

I wouldn't spend that kind of money.

We have been there four years running with our DD from ages 4-7, and loved it for the most part but...

...by the time we last went (Easter 2012) we found she was too old for the younger group activities and too young to join in with the older stuff.

We went for a day this summer to see if it was worth booking for next year and decided it definitely wasn't (and or now 9yo DD agreed).

The initial prices have gone up, plus most of the older kid's activities incur an additional £5 per head (adults have to pay too if you want to go in with them for these).

Your 3yo would probably love it and your 6yo would enjoy a lot too. Unless your 9yo is very sporty and/or you can throw money at lots of extras they will probably be bored senseless and on turbo-whinge for the entire break.
