To spend £1,000 on a 4 night Butlins Bognor break?

Worriedkat · 19/12/2013 22:11

That's the quote for 4 nights in a 3 bed gold apartment in the Easter hols, with the cheaper breakfast/dinner option. Sounds a lot of money, would it be worth it? Just want a post winter break with stuff to keep the boys amused (9, 6 & 3) while I sit and feel knackered

You would have to pay me £1k to spend any time at Butlins Shock

GinFirstQuestionsLater · 20/12/2013 13:12

"£1000" and "4 nights in Bognor" should never be seen in the same sentence unless its "I wouldn't spend 4 nights in Bognor for £1000".

The basic food option is rubbish. We made that mistake once and we were only paying £250 for 4 nights out of season. If I'd paid more I'd have been v angry.

Ifcatshadthumbs · 20/12/2013 13:14

I have to say Flossie I felt the same, I was very snobby about going Blush but I was pleasantly surprised (went to Skegness) there is just bundles for the kids to do and most of it is included in the price unlike centre parcs (which is where I wanted to go!)

It didn't feel run down or naff at all BUT that said we did stay in the gold accomadation and had gold dining package.

Mummytotwox · 20/12/2013 13:15

Do you know what, our best ever holiday was in a shitty pontins campsite!! We spent a week and it was the best holiday ever!! And iv been disneyland, New York ect

GinFirstQuestionsLater · 20/12/2013 13:18

Mummy - I've had great holidays at Haven with the children, but £1000 is bonkers.

Mummytotwox · 20/12/2013 13:19

Yeah ares wasn't 1000 lol. It was like 280 I think lol

MegBusset · 20/12/2013 13:22

We;re going to Sandy Balls in the Easter hold, it's £800 for seven nights so much better value than Butlins. DH (who went to Skeggy as a kid) has mentioned wanting to go there but it would be grounds for divorce imo.

Pinholes · 20/12/2013 13:23

We went to the Skegness one in July this year for four nights, staying in a gold apartment with the premium dining (the basic dining looked shite) and it cost £440 for two adults and two children. It was the week before the summer holidays and the weather was brilliant. No way would I pay £1000, especially for that time of year.

Ifcatshadthumbs · 20/12/2013 13:26

I think the new attendance rules will eventually hit place like Butlins & center parcs really hard. We used to do weekend breaks at both in term time but would dream of paying their school holiday prices.

It's a bit of a shame but we just won't go there anymore.

Ifcatshadthumbs · 20/12/2013 13:26

Wouldn't dream of not would

StepAwayFromTheEcclesCakes · 20/12/2013 13:27

I don't think they are paying you enough there tbh Grin

GobbySadcase · 20/12/2013 13:30

It's jot snobbiness about it being butlins, by the sounds of it the Skeggy one sounds quite good.

It is specifically the Bognor site, I've been there.

We went to the Skegness one during August bank holiday, the DCs enjoyed it and there was lots for them to do but we got a bargain as it was a £15 Sun newspaper holiday. Wouldn't consider spending that much to go, especially as we did end up spending a lot while we were there. (Although we should have paid for the upgrade - the standard accommodation was awful!)

MillyStar · 20/12/2013 13:47

You need to do sun holidays!!

I book one every year, i booked the week after easter in the lakes for next year and paid just over £100 after upgrading to a luxury plus van, i rang the park directly and changed it to a week in the easter hols - sneaky but it works

Norudeshitrequired · 20/12/2013 13:49

I've managed to book a 4 night school holiday break in a gold apartment for four people for £500 including the premium dining plan.
Butlins is great for kids as there's lots to do and most of it is included in the price. We could go abroad for a few days for not much more, but we would spend a whole lot keeping the kids entertained and dining out. Plus we like the fact that we can get away for a few days without spending lots of time in airports. Abroad for longer breaks, but butlins for short breaks works well for us.

ProfYaffle · 20/12/2013 13:51

The pool at Skeggy made it for us, 3 separate pools, 2 slides, outdoor lazy river, boat ride thing, indoor deeper lazy river, loads of rain showers, starlight caves, waves, water jets, jacuzzi etc etc. Only just opened this summer too so all brand spanking new.

Dc also did some decent activities such as geocaching and archery.

Not sure we'd have enjoyed it so much without the pool though.

Pinholes · 20/12/2013 13:54

The pool is amazing. DCs are only 2yo and 4yo but they bloody loved it and spent ages in there - and it's free which is even better.

The staff helped make it for us, DS is a chatty little lad and every single one took the time to acknowledge his blathering chatting and chat back, he loved it.

And the shows. Sesame Street show for Elmo mad 2yo was great.

Branleuse · 20/12/2013 14:08

jesus, im going on a eurocamp holiday for easter for the 5 of us to the south of france for less than that for a week

Creamycoolerwithcream · 20/12/2013 15:12

We stayed in the hotel at the Bognor Butlins one feb half term for a long weekend break and enjoyed it. We liked the room and breakfast and plenty to do for our boys. I think we paid about £650. I didn't like the look of the other accommodation there but never actually went inside any. It was a nice mini break, we had good fun.

Worriedkat · 20/12/2013 17:47

Hmm will Sun holidays do school holiday dates?

Maybe we should look at Disney Paris too. Will they do a January sale?

Thanks for all the replies. A grandparent is coming too - 6 people in total so we need 3, pref 4 bedrooms.

We've done quite a lot of uk hotel mini breaks for less than a grand. We try and find a 4 star base with a nice pool that does half board packages near some good day out places. For instance Chatsworth House, Warwick Castle, Alton Towers. We find these are nice and relaxing breaks.

littleredsquirrel · 20/12/2013 18:41

I certainly wouldn't. we've done Butlins with the DCs. We came home early it was that awful.

I was the one pushing for it. We went when I was little and I have fond memories. It was dirty and crowded. Not worth £1000

skyeskyeskye · 20/12/2013 18:45

I have got a Sun holiday booked for the first week of the Easter holidays, 4 nights and it cost me around £120. That includes utilities, entertainment passes and a location fee so that I could pick the caravan I am in. That is for a Parkdean site.
