To say it's mainly a 'white voice' on this forum?

I have been on the site for a few weeks now. I have noticed that it is possibly dominated by white women. If I am wrong please let me know, however I personally do not hear any black or asian voices. Or anything relating to those communities whether it be food, culture, clothing, traditions or issues specifically found in those communities.

OP posts:

Well it's a UK based site so that's to be.expected, we have.no.real way.pdf.knowing.either way.

And........I'm......does it really matter.so.long as all are welcome ??!

SoleSorceress · 17/12/2013 16:11

So what? The UK is mainly White people, don't like it? TOUGH SHIT

Kikithecat · 17/12/2013 16:11

Maybe we should be fawced to write wiv ar own lowcaw accents then?

AutumnFire · 17/12/2013 16:12

Actually I've noticed something similar OP.

When I went to Ghana, almost all of the tv shows/billboards/magazines were dominated by black people. I wonder why? Shock

RadioSilenceGirl · 17/12/2013 16:13

If I posted about the food I ate, the clothes I wore & my traditions you still wouldn't know what colour my skin is.

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 17/12/2013 16:15

DH could post about the spag bol he made last night. You'd obviously be able to guess he was a North African immigrant from that!

WaitingForMe · 17/12/2013 16:15

My stepbrothers are Indian but they don't have an Indian community, it's not obligatory. My older stepbrothers signature dish is a roast and we tease him over the fact he acts like a gentleman farmer. He went to private school and is a bit of a rah.

Is he doing it wrong? Should he be making more curries and have friends and family the same colour as him?

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 17/12/2013 16:17

Do we also think it's Londoncentric becohhhz we doan't awl wroite loike thehhhs?

SilverApples · 17/12/2013 16:18

What do you think of the responses so far, OP?

Apatite1 · 17/12/2013 16:20

Next you'll be complaining that this site is overwhelmingly full of mums.

Abra1d · 17/12/2013 16:21

Who cares what colour people are? I don't! If they are interesting, funny helpful and nice, or any of these, I want to read their posts. I thought we'd grown out of prejudging people by their skin pigmentation?

caramelwaffle · 17/12/2013 16:22

Op is thinking the Print/Press deadline is looming and still doesn't know what to write.

Or

That was a waste of a namechange.

Or

KatherinaMinola · 17/12/2013 16:22

I think you're getting a bit of a rough ride here, OP. I do actually know what you mean.

Those who say "how can you tell?" - it comes through in the attitudes of the posts sometimes - eg I've reported several Islamophobic posts recently. There is quite a bit of racism on MN that goes unchecked on the threads. I report (or engage, if I have time and it seems worth it), but I rarely see others engaging / pulling the poster up on it. There are notable exceptions - some posters (Mrs DeVere springs to mind) do tend to pick up on racism if they're on-thread.

But I think you have a point, OP.

SilverApples · 17/12/2013 16:23

Most people don't mention their colour, ethnicity, faith or musical instrument of choice unless it's relevant to the discussion.

I think the agenda is quite plain and I will be hitting 'report' accordingly.

RadioSilenceGirl · 17/12/2013 16:29

I meant to add: yes, YABU.

Anyone can register on mn and post. How on earth can you tell anyway just by what people write?
Stereotyping white women is nonsense as well.

bongobaby · 17/12/2013 16:33

We come here to post about our worries, cares, kids, husbands, partners, money and getting support and advice.
With the occassional mn hug thrown inI tell my ten year old that we are all human beings and bleed the same blood regardless of colour, culture or creed.
We all have a voice no matter what colour we are, your post is rather odd.. I'm off to cook up some curry goat for dinner..dressed in my batty riders

LittleTulip · 17/12/2013 16:39

Shall we have another thread with guess the colour of the poster?

Grin

P.S I'm brown(ish)

SHOCK HORROR

What a pointless post OP Confused

WilsonFrickett · 17/12/2013 16:39

I'm white (that's how we're starting our posts now, right?)

But I'm Scottish so I don't count.

Also I can often tell if a poster is Irish. Cadence is a wonderful thing.

I do often hear some silly voices on here like right now for example

HTH

EvilRingahBitch · 17/12/2013 16:41

Going back to that chart, it looks a bit implausible to me because it splits the population into White British and Non-White. Where are all the white Poles, Irish (pace Roddy Doyle) Americans and French? That has to be a couple of percent unaccounted for.
