To say it's mainly a 'white voice' on this forum?

I have been on the site for a few weeks now. I have noticed that it is possibly dominated by white women. If I am wrong please let me know, however I personally do not hear any black or asian voices. Or anything relating to those communities whether it be food, culture, clothing, traditions or issues specifically found in those communities.

What this site seems to be dominated by, is name changers who like to start contentious threads...

Thistledew · 17/12/2013 15:37

Another one saying 'How can you tell'?

Your post does seem to imply that you would expect a particular 'voice' from someone who is black or asian. The majority of my friends who are non-white british come from families that have been british for multiple generations that their "food, culture, clothing, traditions or issues" are all but indistinguishable from my (white, british) own. They might have a few different things to say about haircare or skincare, and may have experiences of discrimination that I have never faced, but there is nothing else that would make them stand out as being non-white.

It is an even smaller minority of non-white UK residents that have major cultural differences.

What does a black or Asian voice sound like over the internet? My family is racially mixed. You couldn't possibly tell which one of us is what just by watching us post on an anonymous forum.

Ullapull, are you suggesting that there are no privileged black or Asian people around?

RadioSilenceGirl · 17/12/2013 15:40

You can tell what colour someone is by what they write??!!

My OU tutor didn't posess this ability, even after a year of reading my assignments (womens studies)!!!!!!!!!

Tikkamasala · 17/12/2013 15:41

Really odd post. I don't know how you think you can tell someone's colour. Bit Hmm that you think black or Asian posters would all be posting about black or Asian food, clothes or "tradition" Confused People talk about all kind of things not just a few specific topics "relevant" to their ethnicity so I really don't know how you think you can tell...

According to Roddy Doyle I'm black. Smile

perlona · 17/12/2013 15:42

It's a British site and the majority of British people are white so it's natural that the majority of users would reflect that. In saying that you don't know what colour posters are unless they tell you. Nobody is going to respond to a thread with "I'm black/brown/yellow/white.... your husbands a dickhead", skin colour has fuck all to do with the majority of threads so people aren't going bring it up out of context.

MrsTerrysChocolateOrange · 17/12/2013 15:42

I always get a little suspicious when people start threads like this, light the touch paper and stand well back.

Let's all join hands and sing Kumbaya or chant Hare Krishna is you must Cashncarry. Grin

I don't know about you, but I am typing in black.

DoesntLeftoverTurkeySoupDragOn · 17/12/2013 15:43

I don't hear any voices, what with it being a text based forum.

JinglingRexManningDay · 17/12/2013 15:43

What's your point OP?

The only time I've ever seen anyone mention their race or nationality is when there's a daft racist twat banging on about farking immigrants taking all the houses and jobs, innit.

Other than that, I would have no idea of the colour of someone's skin. And I really wouldn't care - I base my opinions of people on the way that they express themselves on here, rather than their race.

WorraLiberty · 17/12/2013 15:47

I'm white and I was born to Irish parents in Britain.

Perhaps I should reflect this by starting a thread about my boiled bacon and cabbage problems on a weekly basis?

Binkyridesagain · 17/12/2013 15:48

What? You can tell the colour of my skin by what I right.

SHIT, you're good.

Whitershadeofpale · 17/12/2013 15:49

Probably the majority are but that is representative of the UK in general. I certainly don't think there's anything exclusionary about it and I'd certainly say there's a representative number of non-white posters. I don't really get your point tbh Confused

JinglingRexManningDay · 17/12/2013 15:49

Or a decent pint of Guinness or the bold leprechauns down the bottom of the garden.

MrsTerrysChocolateOrange · 17/12/2013 15:49

Only if I can talk about my haggis, borscht and pierogi issues Worra.

jerryfudd · 17/12/2013 15:49

And?

LEMoncehadacatcalledSANTA · 17/12/2013 15:49

Thats the thing wiht typing, you don't hear peoples accents :)

Heartbrokenmum73 · 17/12/2013 15:50

Interestingly, one of the current Guest Blogs is by Meera Syal! I love her most for being from my neck of the woods (and having the accent) and making me laugh like a drain in Goodness Gracious Me, not because of her race.

WorraLiberty · 17/12/2013 15:50

You can get ointment for that MrsTerrys Grin
