To say it's mainly a 'white voice' on this forum?

I have been on the site for a few weeks now. I have noticed that it is possibly dominated by white women. If I am wrong please let me know, however I personally do not hear any black or asian voices. Or anything relating to those communities whether it be food, culture, clothing, traditions or issues specifically found in those communities.

OP posts:

I think the strength of an anonymous forum is in having no preconceived ideas of the age, gender, sexuality, race, religion, socio-economic status of the posters

ThisOneAndThatOne · 17/12/2013 17:21

Where is the OP?

redshifter · 17/12/2013 17:22

KatherinaMinola - Islamaphobia has nothing to do with this thread.

I really despise the ideology/philosophy of the the koran and hadiths.

I am non white and come from a country that is 98% muslim.

There are a lot ofn'white British' people who hate the ideology of the christian bible.

Please do not equate dislike of certain religious beliefs with racism. I find oponions like yours illogical, silly and quite frankly RACIST.

TheBigJessie · 17/12/2013 17:23

I don't think this is goading.

More... I expect the OP had swallowed the scare stories about the hu-uuuge proportion of non-whites in the UK hook, line, and sinker, but was trying not to be racist. but failed, due to underlying racist assumptions So she assumed that the lack of discussions of Obviously Ethnic Stuff indicated that 30% of mothers felt they weren't welcome here.

ComposHat · 17/12/2013 17:29

I belong to the second largest Muslim denomination and work in a cake factory mixing up the ingredients.

I'm a shiite stirrer.

Which is something I have in common with the op.

NotAnotherStuffedTurkey · 17/12/2013 17:31

Do you think that the OP has included the few blue babies that are knocking about in her analysis of the make up of MN posters? Xmas Wink

TheBigJessie · 17/12/2013 17:33

Am I a racist antisocial arse, or just an antisocial arse? Grin

TheBigJessie · 17/12/2013 17:36

I want a cuddly blue baby. Yep, I'm definitely racist! Brown, pink, yellow hues just aren't good enough for me.

WhereDoAllTheCalculatorsGo · 17/12/2013 17:40

I have a proper little mini-rage after reading this. Proper goaty thread title. How the fuck can you tell what colour we all are?
Arse

WhereDoAllTheCalculatorsGo · 17/12/2013 17:40

HoFuckingHoFuckingHoneydragon · 17/12/2013 17:41

CerealMom · 17/12/2013 17:45

Hi, my name's CerealMom and I'm blue turning a fetching shade of lobster when we occasionally see sun (almost never, phew).

Just in case you couldn't tell from my type. I'm Welsh/sarf London/immigrant Jew extraction. Raised in Lancashire.

Just to clear that up for you journalist op.

Cashncarry - I've got a tambourine and I'm not afraid to shake it :-)

caramelwaffle · 17/12/2013 17:50

Cereal Smile You last line curiously reads as rather...risque. I don't know why.

Couldn't agree more redshifter

Amrapaali · 17/12/2013 17:55

Ok, I am trying to understand where the OP is coming from.

Let me get this right, you think though there is a visible and strong ethnic minority in the UK, their issues are not represented on MN. I dont know the answer to that. I have occasionally seen threads that go, "any Indians around the Colchester area? Care for a meet up this Diwali?" Or the muslim tearoom.

And frankly, no there aren't many personal experience threads that debate about children growing up with racism, increasingly absent fathers, drugs and violence that may be problems in the black community. Again I dont know why. There is nothing that is stopping posters from sharing anything that may be unique to their ethnicity.

But I am sure these issues are being talked at length in many other forums and blogs.

Just because they aren't talked about on here, doesn't mean MN represents the white populace.

JinglingRexManningDay · 17/12/2013 17:58

I am Irish of Greek parents. I look traditionally Greek. But I am not Greek. I am not just a colour or culture. I'm a lot of things. To describe some as black or Asian and therefore to affiliate all things thought to be of black or Asian culture to them is ridiculous.

BuntyPenfold · 17/12/2013 17:59

Hello, I am part Dutch. My make up pack says 'sand'. Hth

"Those who say "how can you tell?" - it comes through in the attitudes of the posts sometimes - eg I've reported several Islamophobic posts recently"

So you have to be white-skinned to be an Islamophobe these days? Absolutely impossible if you are a black Christian, an Orthodox Jew or an Indian Hindu...

Confused

And presumably you haven't noticed that we have white Muslims on here either?

NewtRipley · 17/12/2013 18:03

Good post Amrapaali

I am interested to know how you think you can tell what colour someone is on the internet.
do you expect that we will announce it at the beginning of every post?
or are you saying there is a black or asian way of speaking? That would be fairly odd thing to say, wouldnt it?
unless someone tells you what colour they are, you cannot tell. If you think you can tell, that probably only betrays any stereotypes in your own mind... cos I cant tell who's what colour.
I can tell other things though. Intelligence, attitude, that sort of thing. But not colour.

cory · 17/12/2013 18:09

But Amrapaali, there are plenty of threads discussing the problems of children exposed to drugs and violence and struggling with absent fathers. You will find them in the teen section, for one. Sometimes those children are black, but their parents won't necessarily see that as the most relevant thing to mention.

Golddigger · 17/12/2013 18:12

It never ceases to amaze me how someone can post one post, never to seen again, but get 150 replies!
Cant imagine that ever happening in real life!

nicename · 17/12/2013 18:12

That's freakily good, Newt.

I suspect you are green with webbed toes. Possibly a tail.
