I have been on the site for a few weeks now. I have noticed that it is possibly dominated by white women. If I am wrong please let me know, however I personally do not hear any black or asian voices. Or anything relating to those communities whether it be food, culture, clothing, traditions or issues specifically found in those communities.

I am a twenty seven stone postman called Nigel with an interest in stick insects
No one ever discusses my issues

ViviPru · 17/12/2013 15:52

Way to unite an entire forum in complete agreement, OP....

MrsTerrysChocolateOrange · 17/12/2013 15:52

Where is the OP, where is the op, where is the OP?

WorraLiberty · 17/12/2013 15:53

Ahh I will I will I will....Grin

LadyBeagleEyes · 17/12/2013 15:54

I'm Ssottish, I'm going to change my name to Jockochayethenoo and only start threads about haggis and whisky.

farrowandbawlbauls · 17/12/2013 15:56

and the point of this thread is?

DirtyThree · 17/12/2013 15:56

What does matter ffs?

Do we need to state skin/eye/hair colour at the start of every post???

Thistledew · 17/12/2013 15:56

My XP is Indian, 2nd generation Immigrant, and occasionally when I read threads about family dynamics I sometimes pick up on something that makes me wonder if the OP comes from a similar cultural background, but unless they specifically raise a particular cultural issue to be taken into account, I would go no further than an idle wonder, and it would not change the comment or advice that I would give.

bishboschone · 17/12/2013 15:57

I don't go around saying I'm white so I doubt black and Asian people go round starting sentences with .. I'm black or Asian .

VivaLeBeaver · 17/12/2013 15:57

No idea how you can tell.

There's a regular, quite vocal poster on this forum who I know is black because she mentioned it in one thread. Nothing I've seen before or since would give any hint to her ethnicity. So if you'd missed that thread you might not know. I imagine there are plenty of other posters who also just don't mention their ethnic background.

Don't think I've ever mentioned mine so how would you know if I'm white, black or Asian?

dawntigga · 17/12/2013 15:58

And, as has been previously stated 86% of the UK identify as white. Do you think that people of colour and or other ethnic origins are drowned out on here or aren't heard? Do you think that people don't park their privilege when a person of colour and/or other ethnic origins speak to their own life experiences?

thebody · 17/12/2013 15:59

how can you 'hear voices' on mumsnet.

actually that would be fun to imagine the accents of other posters. orite bab.

Bluebirdonmyshoulder · 17/12/2013 16:00

Please could you explain what a 'white voice' is?

Are you saying that someone's 'voice' or interests depend on their skin colour? Because I find that a little bit racist.

Someone else mentioned that some 'voices' sound privileged so are therefore white. Does this mean that black / Asian / whatever posters don't have nice houses, a good household income etc? Again, that's actually quite racist!

IceBeing · 17/12/2013 16:01

Op yanbu. It is a mainly white voice. You are also being blatantly obvious...

yabbo. It is the new yanbu....

MerryChristmasMollyHooper · 17/12/2013 16:01

I hear voices too OP...

Lazyjaney · 17/12/2013 16:02

"I have been on the site for a few weeks now. I have noticed that it is possibly dominated by white women"

No Shit? Have you worked out that it's possibly dominated by British people too yet?

That it's a British Mums Net, and Britain is c 85% white, is a clue...

loisismyhero · 17/12/2013 16:02

According to Roddy Doyle I'm black

Hahahahaha Grin

LillianaMarie · 17/12/2013 16:03

Its seems like its wrong to be white nowadays! What is wrong with wgite people talking? And how can you tell the colour of someones skin by text on a screen? Do non-white people type differently? Btw... Im not white but it seems like everyones white bashing... Not enough non whites here not enough there etc etc

Cailleach · 17/12/2013 16:03

I'm simply dying to know what "a white voice" sounds like, OP.

lougle · 17/12/2013 16:05

Poor OP, I think thus must be one of those 'engage mouth before brain' moments that you feel horribly embarrassed about later.

OP, if you've only been here a few weeks, I'd apologise, quietly namechange, then get to know MN a bit better.

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 17/12/2013 16:06

Worra
I have some real boiled bacon and cabbage issues...
I had an Irish Father
I don't eat meat.
DH and the DS are muslim.

AIBU to feel torn between my cultural heritage, my dietary beliefs and my DH's religion.

caramelwaffle · 17/12/2013 16:07

The first half of the Original post is a bit No Shit Sherlock...

The middle bit of the post reveals the Op is culturally rather...limited
