He's just won "personality of the year" why?? I know he won Wimbledon, but even so...

OP posts:
CloverkissSparklecheeks · 15/12/2013 22:13

YABU his interview after he won was quite funny!

RedLondonBus · 15/12/2013 22:13

He won Olympic gold too

Op.... So are you the life and soul then?

ItsNotATest · 15/12/2013 22:14

You're wrong.
He's funny. And hot Grin

storytopper · 15/12/2013 22:14

If you equate personality with a lot of gushy, shallow, cheesiness you should have been watching X Factor instead - would have suited you better.

scottishmummy · 15/12/2013 22:14

Well done Andy.he's won Wimbledon had good year,no surprise
He's not a turn up fir opening of envelope schleb ,who does reality tv,he's a sportsman
That's his achievement,that's why it's deserved

Shakey1500 · 15/12/2013 22:15

Blimey what does the bloke have to do??

Wonder how you'd feel if he was commenting on your attributes OP. Or lack of them. Jeez

TeaMakesItAllPossible · 15/12/2013 22:16

YABU. He is very, very funny. He is very self aware, takes the piss out of himself. And cries on the telly. He has lovely forearms. What's not to like?

LadyBeagleEyes · 15/12/2013 22:16

I think it's just called Sports Personality because it's less of a mouthful than Sports man or woman of the Year.
I agree it should be Sports Person.
I like Andy, he has a very dry sense of humour but that's not why he won.

HavantGuard · 15/12/2013 22:16

Nigel Mansell won. Twice.

drudgetrudy · 15/12/2013 22:17

YABVVU - having a personality doesn't mean being a loudmouth. He's got a nice dry soh, really wanted to win and not bad to look at either. What do you mean by "personality" OP?

ThisIsMyRealChristmasName · 15/12/2013 22:17

YABU. It is sports personality, not media personality. It's not fair to villify someone incredibly hardworking and successful just because they are not full of charisma and confidence in front of a camera.

scottishmummy · 15/12/2013 22:17

I hope he never acquires big I am personality or the accompanying avaricious life

trixymalixy · 15/12/2013 22:18

YABVVVVU!! He has a very dry sense of humour.

Best1sWest · 15/12/2013 22:18

I feel so bloody sorry for him. Winning Wimbledon, the first British man to do so for 77 years, was an outstanding achievement and he has to apologise for having a boring voice?

'Personality' may be the wrong choice of words perhaps as it sounds a bit 'entertainment and showbiz'. On the other hand, I for one, was very much entertained by him this year.

Chewbecca · 15/12/2013 22:21

YABVU

MintChocAddict · 15/12/2013 22:22

He spent a lot of time (quite wisely) being wary of a section of the English media after they completely shafted him over some jokey football banter with Tim Henman (who is a good friend of his).
I think he subsequently retreated from trying to please them and kind of went into himself, making him appear sullen and not very user friendly.
Thankfully he's emerged from that and his true personality can be seen now.
Think he's funny, exceptionally talented and very well liked in sporting circles.
Sounds like a good choice for sports personality to me.
So YABVVVU

JaneEyreTheRedNosedReindeer · 15/12/2013 22:22

YABU - he's fab! Droll, dedicated and he loves his Ma Xmas Grin

First and foremost he's an athlete, not a celeb - and let's not forget HE WON WIMBLEDON!

Kewcumber · 15/12/2013 22:23

You want the role model for children and teenagers (who lets face it are presumably the only people significantly influenced by sports people) to be someone who's a bit of a laff. Not someone who works like a bloody Trojan, made it to the top of a sport where a minute number of people actually become household names, who persevered despite losing masters time and time again and getting the piss ripped out of him in the press constantly.

He isn't in the press for sleeping with out peoples wives or getting pissed so he isn't a "personality"?! Hmm

And he speaks so highly of you OP, not nice of you to talk badly of someone you know so well.

FudgefaceMcZ · 15/12/2013 22:23

YABU he's lovely.

ConventGarden · 15/12/2013 22:23

yanbu

AmIthatTinselly · 15/12/2013 22:24

Poor Andy, he can't please everyone. He has a great personality, WTF is the problem. Is it because he isn't loud ?

IHaveSeenMyHat · 15/12/2013 22:25

Mo Farah?

Great athlete, does tons for charity, but not the greatest interviewee either. He comes across as, um, not the sharpest tool in the shed.

MaryMungoAndMidgies · 15/12/2013 22:27

I agree scottishmummy. He doesn't need to come the big I am. He seems a fine enough loon just the way he is. His achievements speak for themselves.

If he'd come out with some cheesy rehearsed guff he wouldn't be being true to himself.

Kewcumber · 15/12/2013 22:27

He also won the Olympics, Wimbledon in 40 degree heat and the NY open in a 5 hour match against Djokovic
