...to think dog owners who don't pick up after their pets should be shot

For the second time in as many days DD has trodden in dog shit on the walk home. Some of the pavements on our route are very badly lit and covered in leaves so you can't see in front of you very well. Avoiding big piles of dog shit is a lottery.

Ive just spent the last 15 mins trying to scrub shit out of the grooves of the soles of her shoes and yet again the smell of dog shit is burned into my nostrils.

There are no dog wardens here and no prospect of getting any. AIBU to want to hunt down these fucking lazy dog owners and shoot them dead after first rubbing their noses in their dog's shite.

Very very Angry.

Yanbu. I would like a law that dogs out in public have to wear nappies.

woowoo22 · 12/12/2013 18:33

YANBU at all. Same issue here. Taking the pram out involves slalom-ing.

EvilRingahBitch · 12/12/2013 18:37

I think you're a wee bit OTT, but that's because I haven't trod in any for a couple of months. Wait until one of the DCs have got it all over the carpet and I'll be YANBUing along with everyone else.

sonlypuppyfat · 12/12/2013 18:39

You should live by me dog shit and horse shit to dodge and I don't live out in the country.

makemineabacardi · 12/12/2013 18:48

I dont find horse shit smells as much as a dog's and you dont find it on pavements so easier to dodge.

Dodging the shit is so much more difficult this time of year.

YANBU - but horse shit is a whole different thing, it's just grass etc, it's not toxic like dog shit is.

We have a dog and always pick up after it, it really pisses me off when others don't. My DH was hunting through the mist for it on the morning walk today....but he still bloody did it!

I used to look after a rottie who always shat in the middle of zebra crossings Grin

Yeah thanks for that...

formerbabe · 12/12/2013 19:20

I agree with you...hanging is too good for them. Its filthy, disgusting, a health hazard. Our walk to ds's school is exactly the same, I spend the whole time looking at the pavement and steering him round it. I have thrown shoes in the bin if I step in it as cleaning it makes me feel so sick and even if I clean the shoes I feel like they have forever been contaminated.

CatThiefKeith · 12/12/2013 19:21

YANBU, and I am a dog owner. Out local park is full of it. I and a couple of others always pick up at least two extra bagfulls from someone elses dog.

I personally would like to scheme introduced where any police officer/pcso/dog warden could stop any dog walker and as them to produce their poo bags. On the spot fine of 1k for not having them, and a 5k fine if caught not cleaning up after your dog.

That would sort it. :)

LucyLasticKnickers · 12/12/2013 19:21

i talked to this Dog Walker and she said, it was ok if the dogs did it on the leaves. I coudlnt bring myself to agree with her but tbh i think it is wrong to leave dog shit, even if it is in undergrowth and/or leaves.
children particularly like kicking through the leaves. and when my dog poos in the leaves, i pick up the poo,and then tread in another dog's poo Xmas Angry

LucyLasticKnickers · 12/12/2013 19:22

btw i have a designated tooth brush for the very purpose of getting dog poo out of the treads in shoes

LucyLasticKnickers · 12/12/2013 19:22

oh and apart from the fact that my puppy eats other dog's poo given half the chance Shock

Sunflower49 · 12/12/2013 19:23

YANBU and I have a dog too. I went to pick up after her the other day and picked up a different dog's shit by mistake!I only knew it wasn't hers 'cause it was cold! puke...

loveolives · 12/12/2013 19:42

Yanbu, it's fucking dirty, disgusting and inexcusable. Dread to think what the dog owners house is like.

yellowGiraffe8 · 12/12/2013 19:45

Yanbu, it is so antisocial and disgusting not to clear up after your dog.

notundermyfoof · 12/12/2013 19:52

Yanbu! I've just had to clean shit off my pushchair wheels for the second time this week Angry

ab00 · 12/12/2013 19:57

I say this as a dog owner myself YANBU. I am sick to death of playing dodge the shit when we go out. I've actually stopped going to our nearest park as every time we went the pram would come back with shit on no matter how careful I was. I also hate it when you see a dog blatantly drop it's arse & the owner just leave the mess on the pavement. Who the fuck thinks that's ok?

I live in fear & dread of ds1 tripping & falling in some. It is disgusting, irresponsible, inconsiderate & a massive health hazard.

HairyPorter · 12/12/2013 19:57

YANBU! We have one that regularly poos on the 'no dog poo' paving stone that's at the base of the doggy poo bin. That owner deserves a special place in hell. Isn't there some sort of spray someone could invent to spray on regular poo spots??

TooOldForGlitter · 12/12/2013 20:02

It is WORSE to do 'it' in/on leaves, what a stupid dog warden. You can't see it and often I walk into patches of leaves with my dog so he can go and step in other peoples dog shite. I carry a torch so I can see where to 'scoop' in the dark, its not hard.

gimcrack · 12/12/2013 20:12

I've got a special toothbrush, too. In my area special poo wardens caught two owners in the local park who preferred to pay the fine than pick up their shite. Wtf?

Hissy · 12/12/2013 20:14

I have just finished scrubbing MY DS shoes and I can still smell the dogshit, despite the flash, detergent and elbow grease. :(

Nappies for dogs, tis the only way.

froubylou · 12/12/2013 20:24

Yanbu. I have a dog too. And at 39 weeks pg still pick up after her.

The dirty bastard who lets their dinosaur sized dog do bright orange dinosaur sized dog shits at the top of the road that about 100 primary school kids walk down every day to get to school should definitely be shot.

I plan 1 day to sit and wait for them so I can catch them in the act and follow them home. I then intend to empty all the dogshit bins I can find through their letterbox. Then knock on the door so they tread in it.

I dread to think how much of that bright orange shit has been trodden into school carpets. Then sat on by the kids.

autumnsmum · 12/12/2013 20:25

Hate dog mess with a passion

MadAsFish · 12/12/2013 20:27

I've always wanted to be quick (and organised) enough to have a plastic bag handy, pick up the crap, smear it in full all over the dog, then say 'Now you're taking it with you.'

SaggyOldClothCatPuss · 12/12/2013 20:32

I would LOVE to merge this thread with the one last week asking if it is unreasonable to expect cat owners to clean up after their pets! Grin Grin

I'd live to know just WHY cat shit is acceptable and dog shit isn't!! It's just so fecking hypocritical!

I always clear up after my dog btw!

cathpip · 12/12/2013 20:36

I am a dog owner, and every week I pick up shit that has been left outside my gate, what's worse is I live on the edge of a village next to the fields and by the gate into the field (50 metres away) is a bin...... I am also heavily pregnant and still manage to clear up my dogs mess, my dc's who are 5 and 3 even know about poo patrol and picking up. It's disgusting that people do not bother about it.
