...to think dog owners who don't pick up after their pets should be shot

For the second time in as many days DD has trodden in dog shit on the walk home. Some of the pavements on our route are very badly lit and covered in leaves so you can't see in front of you very well. Avoiding big piles of dog shit is a lottery.

Ive just spent the last 15 mins trying to scrub shit out of the grooves of the soles of her shoes and yet again the smell of dog shit is burned into my nostrils.

There are no dog wardens here and no prospect of getting any. AIBU to want to hunt down these fucking lazy dog owners and shoot them dead after first rubbing their noses in their dog's shite.

Very very Angry.

Yanbu - This drives me bonkers, but there maybe a solution !!

DNA testing of dog poo ( unfortunately, just got to register every single dog first though ... ahhh but one can dream )

PatTheHammer · 12/12/2013 20:47

I prefer it when my dog goes in the leaves since its much easier to scoop the leaves up too rather than if its directly on the pavement. It takes seconds to clear up after them and its pure laziness why people don't.
We have an alleyway on the way to school that is at times a dog toilet, it's gross and as it stinks so much it encourages other dogs to go there too. I've written to the council about it many times but what can they do, there is a poo bin at the start and end and one half way down so its well resourced. Just the owners being absolute twats.
Saggy-I agree, cat shit is just as fucking offensive, especially when I'm gardening. I've noticed you can't say that on MN though ;-)

HungryHorace · 12/12/2013 20:48

I'm fed up of doing the dog shit slalom with the pram too. What's worse is that on some streets round here they've managed to somehow get the dog to shit across the entire width of the path and for about 8 ft along it too. It makes it almost impossible to get past it without getting the pram wheels in it.

It's disgusting and they need to start using the existing bye law to fine people who don't pick it up.

whataboutbob · 12/12/2013 20:48

Hi cucumber juice I posted on this about 1 year ago. I believe they use DNA testing in Germany.there is an MP up North in Yorkshre I believe who is campaigning for it. I contacted my MP here in S London and. Just got the brush off. No one is at present seriously thinking of investing the necessary time and money, as far as I could see. I put some vigilant style posters up in my hood, they got torn down within 48 hours. Cycling back from after school club with the kids in the dark, it s like playing dog shit roulette.

NoAddedSuga · 12/12/2013 20:53

Yanbu.

However there was a thread on here about cat shit and that seemed acceptable for a cat owner not to pick it up if it wasnt in their own garden .

cucumberjuice · 12/12/2013 20:55

Hi whataboutbob - That's great news if someone actually takes the problem seriously ( i am actually in North Yorkshire - so will check it out ) We love going on walks, but its sad that you spend most of the time not letting kids run free in grass or play near trees as you know they will get covered in shit.
I think we should go back to dog licence and use the money to pay for the DNA testing. They would make a fortune in fines !

Sparklingbrook · 12/12/2013 20:56

Yay. Lets turn a dog poo thread into a cat poo thread. Grin We haven't had a cat poo thread for ages. Grin

ChameleonCircuit · 12/12/2013 20:57

I caught someone letting his big fuck off husky type shit on the grass by my mum's sheltered housing block last week. Told him to pick it up, he said "just going to get a bag" and set off up the hill. I knew the fucker was lying, so took a carrier out of my car, picked it up and followed him with it. He then got very aggressive, shouting at my "why did you do that? How do you know I wasn't going to get a bag?'" "Well we're you?" I asked. No answer. I called him a disgusting git and disposed of the shit myself. Wish I'd thought to smear it on the dog!

PatTheHammer · 12/12/2013 20:59

I don't think anyone's trying to derail the thread but just saying that animal shit from a pet is offensive, disgusting and dangerous when your child or yourself steps in it. What type of pet it comes from shouldn't exempt anyone.....it's shit.

Sparklingbrook · 12/12/2013 21:00

But dog poo is all over the pavements and in public areas like parks.

PatTheHammer · 12/12/2013 21:02

Yes it is. And cat shit is all over people's gardens. Irresponsible owners on both sides. No more or less. Children should be able to play safely in their gardens and in the park.

Sparklingbrook · 12/12/2013 21:04

Pat the v long thread about cat poo last week covered it all in detail.

Only on MN is cat poo such a problem.

Anyway this thread appears to be about dog poo for a change.....

PatTheHammer · 12/12/2013 21:04

Chameleon that was a fucking brave thing to do, wish more people were like that. If owners were questioned more maybe it would shame some of them into picking up.

MissBattleaxe · 12/12/2013 21:04

YANBU times a million.

It makes me seethe and rage.

Chameleon- you were right to confront him.

The only thing that can work at the moment is if everyone shames offenders and confronts and embarrasses them. They might start picking up if they think they're about to be publicly berated ( at least you would hope so). Naturally this only works if you see the bastards.

Councils have introduced fines but they can only be enforced if you see it happening. Night-time dog walkers can often just get away with it.

There is a pavement full of shit near me where it has spread over a five foot area in about 10 blobs.

Recently I saw a man in a wheelchair fall off the pavement into the road as he was trying to steer his wheels away from dog mess.

I would happily rub the owners noses in it, name and shame them, and take their right to own a dog away.

Happydaze77 · 12/12/2013 21:10

YANBU, it's disgusting. We live near a nursery and primary school and it's awful.

i talked to this Dog Walker and she said, it was ok if the dogs did it on the leaves.* Hmm Stupid dog warden. Surely it's even worse if disguised amongst the leaves?!

Imagine being blind and treading it throughout your house.

I totally agree that cat poo is just as bad. It is just as dangerous as dog poo. It's just more difficult to police as cats roam around and crap in everyone's garden.

gamerchick · 12/12/2013 21:10

I knew as soon as I saw the title that cat shit would be mentioned Grin

I had to report somebody for their huge mastiff shits. It would shit in the same place and it went on for months. There was piles and piles of it and that's no exaggeration. It's been cleared now.

What gets me is the council's are whinging about being skint when all they have to do is hang around heavy areas and fine the twats the 1000 quid that's clagged all over lamposts.

If owners knew they would be fined.. We might see less of it.

Or armed patrols that point at the animal until it's cleaned up might work Wink

Sparklingbrook · 12/12/2013 21:13

15 pages of cat poo thread Enjoy. Grin

comingintomyown · 12/12/2013 21:17

YANBU it's grim dealing with animal shit owners who turn a blind eye when it's dark etc are CAUCs

Tanith · 12/12/2013 21:21

I run a Forest School playgroup. Every week, at least one of the kids steps in dog mess. It's on National Trust land, bags and bins are provided and they still can't be bothered.
Most of it is alongside the paths so it's definitely dogs with their owners.

Sparklingbrook · 12/12/2013 21:23

Both DSs play junior football. Someone has to be sent onto the pitch to do the dog poo shovelling before the match can start. Sad

D0oinMeCleanin · 12/12/2013 21:25

YABU, when was the last time you saw a public dog loo? Where are they supposed to go, if not on the floor? What are we meant to do, pick it and carry it round like a handbag?!?! Gross. I suggest you write to your MP and ask for something to be done about the canine public facilities, it is embarrassing enough for them to have to go in the street in public without them having to watch their owners clean it up too. Poor dogs Sad

TodayIsAGoodDay · 12/12/2013 21:29

I take it you are joking D0oinMeCleanin

Beccadugs · 12/12/2013 21:29

YANBU

I have a dog, part of the pleasure responsibility is picking up its shit.

The difference between cat shit and dog shot is that generally your dog is attached to you by a lead when it shits, whereas your cat is roaming free. (And I speak as one who picked 4 cat shits off the area surrounding my front step this evening!)

Beccadugs · 12/12/2013 21:30

*dog shit not dog shot obviously!
