To think psychics are all fakes?

I don't like that they take peoples money when they are in a vulnerable place, lost loved ones etc. It's immoral. Just my opinion.

Thoughts? Opinions?

People who believe the Bible are either dimwits or nasty little losers who want power over others. All the main religions were invented by men in order to take control of reproduction from women: that's their original purpose - the rest of the mythology is a mixture of agricultural metaphor, random bits of gossip, propaganda relevant at the time the mythology was invented, and padding.

And when it comes to psychics, anyone else noticed that one of the qualifications for being one seems to be spectacular ugliness, terrible dress sense, clammy hands and quite often an unfortunate body odour problem?

MostWicked · 12/12/2013 21:57

The greater the level of education, scientific knowledge and advances that a country has, the lower the grip that religion has on the people who live there.
It's a comfort for people who know no better.

puntasticusername · 12/12/2013 22:04

This is EVEN MORE off topic, but it always makes me laugh:

A recently bereaved gay friend of mine was once desperate to see a psychic who 'a friend of a friend had said was brilliant blah blah'. I tried to dissuade him but eventually went along to support him. We went into this small house full of china cats and as you say, the 'psychic' did have clammy hands and a serious BO problem! As well as that she kept going on about how my friend and I 'would get married' and she could see 'a long and happy marriage between us.'

This was particularly strange as my gay friend sported a lush handlebar moustache, a leather hat and a tee shirt that clearly said:
QUEER AS FUCK.

Never mind second sight - she didn't even have first sight. And she smelled!

Loopytiles · 12/12/2013 22:21

Ooh, but maybe she was right frizzbonce and your seemingly gay friend is secretly in lurve with you!

Shall we look into the chrystal ball and see? Grin

myroomisatip · 12/12/2013 22:35

God I find these threads so tiresome.

It is easy to say you think psychics are fake when you have not had a convincing experience of them! People arrive at various opinions for various reasons, experience probably being one of the most important ones.

I do not believe that you can cold read someone and come out with a totally relevant name and relationship with no questions asked. A simple statement. A simple fact. I can't explain it but I know it was no guess.

And the psychic I saw was happy to be recorded.

I think really that people who like to quote science are using science as an excuse to be closed minded and think they are superior. I have had experiences that have not in any way been enjoyed or welcomed and at my great age, never before or since experienced or easily explained.

And for those of you who think you know it all, tell me the name of my Mothers best friend!

BackOnlyBriefly · 12/12/2013 22:42

That sounds like a good psychic. Who recommended him to you?

FlatAsSantasSacks · 12/12/2013 22:45

Yep as mentioned I've had a very positive experience with one. Have PMd some who asked.

I'd recommend Steve Holbrook if anyone is sceptical. Go along to one of his evenings. Interesting..

LambinsideaDuckinsideaTrout · 12/12/2013 22:51

I have seen someone very very convincing. He was the best I have ever seen by a mile. His name is derren brown and he did not lie about the fact that he knew everything he did by cold reading.

Martha

FirstVix · 12/12/2013 22:52

MostlyLovingLurchers · 12/12/2013 22:58

Steve Holbrook states on his own website that his 'demonstrations' are for entertainment purposes only.

LambinsideaDuckinsideaTrout · 12/12/2013 23:00

Tell me the name of my cousin who just died the other day.

FirstVix · 12/12/2013 23:01

Stephen (with a ph) ...

[I'm making this shit up btw]

FirstVix · 12/12/2013 23:03

Actually, I'm sorry for your loss. Hope it was a gentle passing.

LambinsideaDuckinsideaTrout · 12/12/2013 23:03

Hehe... no that is not correct. Pax? Maybe he will tell you his name, seeing as the dead talk to you and you can talk back...

OP posts:
LambinsideaDuckinsideaTrout · 12/12/2013 23:04

It was not good. He was dead around a week before he was found by his brother. He was 32.

'Psychics' are my pet hate. That Sally woman in particular makes my blood boil 'ooh, my love...ooh, my darling'.
Aargh! How can she look people in the eye and pick the bones of their dead loved ones, all the while wrapping it up in that hideous saccharin.
It is a hideously immoral industry and I really think they ought to be banned.

FirstVix · 12/12/2013 23:10

I'm sorry for that - my cousin was dead for (they think) several weeks before being found and they couldn't determine cause of death due to decomposition.
Poor thing(s). Thanks

Frizzbonce · 12/12/2013 23:11

Lambs I'm really sorry to hear that.

LambinsideaDuckinsideaTrout · 12/12/2013 23:17

Aye. Well the nice thought that my dad is looking after him 'up there' or whatever gives comfort eve n though I don't really believe all the heaven/god/afterlife stuff.

In reality his life was not good, he took drugs. Bad choices in life. Overdose. Gone.

I'm sorry to hear about your cousin too. :(

OP posts:
LambinsideaDuckinsideaTrout · 12/12/2013 23:19

Perplexed - that is what I cannot abide with these people. They have a hard neck chatting shit about grieving people's loved ones who have passed on.

OP posts:
FirstVix · 12/12/2013 23:24

Thanks Lamb - similar bad life choices for my cousin too. Still loved her though Smile

BackOnlyBriefly · 12/12/2013 23:26

The reason I asked myroomisatip who recommended the psychic is that frequently it will be someone who had a good experience with them. Which means they probably already told him about their relatives and friends. So then friend goes there and "Wow! he knows about me. How is that possible?"

LambinsideaDuckinsideaTrout · 12/12/2013 23:31

Back-

I realised that. I know of a family who lost a loved one suddenly in a crash this year. Young man. Young family very tragic. His aunties, sisters etc went to same psychic. All one after the other.

'Oh she's so good' etc.

Makes me sick.
