I'm another one who has been ignorant towards the affects of Nestle across the world. However this thread has opened my eyes, I have done some reading and will now be joining the boycott. I'm shocked by the number of products associated with Nestle, and will carry the list in my purse as a reminder. Now who was saying the boycott has failed? Surely people joining the cause is not a failure but a step in the right direction?

Yanbu and your language is spot on, op. What else would you call a company who is directly responsible for the deaths of, what hundreds of thousands? Of babies?

bohemiangirl, what a disgusting, ill thought out thing to say!

Breastfeeding aside, almost everything Nestle make is designed to make you obese! Now they get to make money from people trying to lose that weight as well?!

I was only made aware of the horrors of nestles practices 3 years ago, it's amazing how many people don't actually know about the boycott or the reasons why.

Lamb you've called me tube maligned my character and avoided answering what would you do?
Which alternative provider would you seek, how would programme be funded
I've been aware of the nestle boycott for number years.

Am I correct in thinking that Change4Life is just an England thing? If so, one alternative is to use the Healthy Working Lives approach that we do up here. No Nestle to darken our door.

You've maligned your own character perfectly well without my help.

I dunno maybe the loophole for tax avoidance should be closed and the government could let the change4life use a fraction of those millions.

Lamb in a froth of indignant name calling you've avoided what would you do
Ok,so you'd increase personal tax and redistribute to nhs.will that fund programme
What alternative providers would you source, how would you establish a baseline of business ethics you like, how would it be monitored

You have no well thought out response other than name calling.that doesn't cut it

A)It doesn't have to be contracted out (see NHS Scotland) and B)if it is then ethical partners can be used instead. It's not Nestle or nothing.

They have plenty of national partners -

www.nhs.uk/change4life/pages/national-partners-list.aspx

Nestle need not be one of them if it wasn't for the money. The cash cow, the irresponsible, disgusting company that they are.

Right then, but presumably after tendering and bids no ethical alternative was found

Ok,so if the ethical sector lack skills, finance, clout what's the alternative?
Your responses are one dimensional, health economics is complicated
And sometimes deals are done in belief it's got a wider health and social impact

Scottishmummy - Did I claim to have all the answers? Just because something 'is how it is' doesn't mean that it is right.

Sir,take your hand oot yer gob,use that hand to search my posts, compare to op posts
I don't need to name call or big up a thread title to get something going

But you see there the rub.most people don't boycott nestle, you concede that
Why should they as patients be denied a programme partnered ny nestle cause you boycott nestle?

Report
LambinsideaDuckinsideaTrout · 08/12/2013 20:58

Sometimes deals are done because one company has the control and money to do so.

Wider health social impact? Positive or negative? Questionable which in my opinion.
