Out of interest why did you say silence at last?

I think individuals are responsible for their actions, I think buying nestle products is supporting a company that kills babies.

I think each individual, if they took responsibility for their own actions would create a change.

I think the counter argument 'my vote doesn't count' in any circumstance is a poor one.

you do count. Your buying habits have an effect.

Yes Folk buy nestle.but can't conflate that they Support killing infants
It's not that simple.nhs uses nestle products, royal college midwives don't boycott
Are you suggesting nhs support killing infants by purchasing nestle

Applying your line of thought, you'd live in a croft.growing own Arables with no high street clothes on your back

Report
custardo · 11/12/2013 10:26

they do not conflate that with killing infants, they should.
the NHS should stop buying nestle products
I do what I can, choosing what to put in your shopping cart (if you have enough money to have choice) is something I can do. It is not the only thing.

Suggesting that one should do nothing because one can't do everything is a poor argument

So you accept your premise is wrong.nhs don't support killing infants by purchase nestle

Report

the NHS should stop buying nestle products

Do read my post,I have repeatedly said I wholly support people taking direct action
If one feels strongly as a consumer, they can of course boycott product
But don't conflate not boycotting as supporting poor practice

Report
custardo · 11/12/2013 10:32

by not boycotting, you are by default supporting poor practice

Report
scottishmummy · 11/12/2013 10:32

Ok,so hypothetically nhs stop buying nestle.what if alternative is costlier
How's that funded.given we got finite funding squeezed resources
With finite funding if something costs more, something else will be dropped..what?

I suggest not paying MP expenses

Your language is subtly changing you've gone from I think buying nestle products is supporting a company that kills babies to
by not boycotting, you are by default supporting poor practice

Nope you still can't conflate purchasing nestle = support all their practices.

Report
custardo · 11/12/2013 10:38

I can say it in any language. picking at sentence structure or grammar does not negate the point.

Nestle kill babies. boycott it

Report
scottishmummy · 11/12/2013 10:41

650 Mp expenses is incomparable to cost nestle products to nhs
That's ridiculous suggestion

Report
scottishmummy · 11/12/2013 10:44

You can individually boycott nestle if you feel so compelled.absolutely
This does it mean those who don't boycott support killing infants

Report
custardo · 11/12/2013 10:49

it does by default

Report
custardo · 11/12/2013 10:53

the bill for MP expenses was 100million. 2012/13.

scottishmummy can't you see the vicious circle developing here?

People eat Nestle products > people get obese > health initiative required > nestle fund obesity health initiative > people eat Nestle products > people get obese, etc, etc.

Report
scottishmummy · 11/12/2013 11:43

Your default,not mine.not the majority

Report
scottishmummy · 11/12/2013 11:51

That's a completely made up trajectory. And bit fatalistic
On premise majority will eat nestle, and create your so called Vicious cycle
Btw if the health programme works, people will eat less processed food

2012 NHS catering costs were @£500million and rising

Report
LambinsideaDuckinsideaTrout · 11/12/2013 12:19

Tax avoided, evaded and uncollected would easily pay for it. Close the loopholes.

Tax justice network and PCS estimate it at £120 billion.

HMRC estimate it at £30 billion.

Picking through the interesting parts of this thread - I considered myself reasonably well informed but I was under the impression that Nestle's immoral promotion of formula in developing countries had stopped - maybe things like the RCM dropping the boycott had given me that impression. Learning that these practices are still ongoing along with the siphoning of water which I did not know about has made me realise that I want to boycott. Whether it makes a difference it not, I don't wish to give my money to a company which is the direct cause of so much death and suffering.

(Am gutted about San Pellegrino as their Limonata is my newly discovered alcohol-replacement in pregnancy. Fuckers.)

And despite all the deletions and mud-slinging on the thread, to my mind the most jaw-droppingly callous, insensitive and offensive statement was the poster who said why don't 'these women' just re-lactate followed by a grinning smiley - because women watching their babies starving to death is apparently hilarious if it allows you to get a dig in at the 'breastapo'. I can't believe that comment was allowed to stand!

It was a very ignorant comment to make. Maybe no one reported it. I didn't report any comments to be deleted. For the most part I think people should have to stand by what they say at the time without it being deleted.

My comments included.
