to not understand Lush products

I would never buy then for myself because I can barely walk past the store without getting a headache from the fumes but I got a gift set for my birthday. This contains 5 bars of goop. One said it was bubble bath so I merrily threw it in the bath where it frothed for a bit, turned the water pink and made lots of lovely bubbles BUT there is still a huge lump of sticky pink mess left behind. What am I meant to do with this? It's all well and good being sanctimonious about using no packaging (not true though considering these goop bars were wrapped in 2 separate cardboard boxes each stuffed with filling) but I can hardly leave a half digested splodge of mess on the side of the bath for my DD to eat at bath time can I?

I couldn't live without Hair Doctor, Big shampoo, Rehab and I Love Juicy. I've been buying their stuff since the 80s since they were CTG must've spent thousands.. not joking! As for the smell of the stores.. I think that's possibly my alltime favourite smell.. now if they could bottle that, I'd buy tons of the stuff..,

alltoomuchrightnow · 06/12/2013 19:21

but am really not keen on the pushy staff either . 'Have you used our products before?' yes, since before you were born, child..,,

ddubsgirl · 06/12/2013 20:34

the soapy cauldron is faaaaar better and nicer than lush

southeastastra · 06/12/2013 20:37

i love their karma soap and used to be a big fan of cosmetics to go. miss the products from that range though i can't remember what they were. I had a lovely green soap with a hare picture on it. wistful for those lovely packages from poole

I have an issue with some of their politics and feel very uncomfortable with their funding of the OneWorld project.

I respect that as an organisation they are free to donate their profits to who ever they want, but since hearing about that I have shopped elsewhere.

ByTheSea · 06/12/2013 20:38

DD1-14 is a lush fanatic. Always smells nice though.

OhYouMerryLittleKitten · 06/12/2013 20:41

I don't go in since they stopped my favourite bath bomb - Sakura. How could they get rid of it? :( I even tried recreating my own.

roadwalker · 06/12/2013 20:42

I used to but from cosmetics to go
They split into 2 companies according to my friend and cosmetics to go are much smaller but still in operation (if that is true)
I havent looked myself

ShinyBauble · 06/12/2013 22:46

I went through a Lush phase, but have totally gone off them now. One of their confetti bath bombs gunged up the bath plughole. I can't have a relaxing bath knowing that I have to fix the bath or spend ages scrubbing the stains off the ceramic afterwards.

And I dislike their politics too, and their hamfisted campaigns.

alltoomuchrightnow · 06/12/2013 22:55

Cosmetics To Go ended in 1994. Some of the products got re made when Lush brought out their makeup store, B Never Too Busy.. loved those stores but they too went bust. I think some of the products are still available online from Lush, but not in the stores. I LOVED those soaps with the rabbit/hare in! I remember one with a postman in too!

nicename · 07/12/2013 11:13

I thought it was the same man who set up both? Didn't cosmetics to go, well, go bust?

Sunflower49 · 07/12/2013 14:27

I love lush. Some of their products are amazing. For example my thin, lank hair is now fluffy and full of body from one of their conditioners. I used to have constant shaving rash but using their 'ambrosia' shaving cream has eliminated that-changed my life!
They're usually very accommodating and friendly, if you don't understand what to do with any of their stuff just call and ask them :)
I do like their non-animal testing policy too, and scrutinized their ingredients lists when I got products as a gift-mostly wholesome natural ingredients (e/g the facial scrub is predominently ground almonds).
I want to try their 'toothy tabs' as a lot of toothpastes seem to make my mouth sore.

alltoomuchrightnow · 07/12/2013 15:08

yes, same man - Mark Constantine. They went bust and re started as Lush. Some of the products were re vamped/ re named. They they opened the B Never shops with some of the old CTG products. and also went bust...
I keep hearing awful things about working for them (i was going to apply) but I've changed mind after reading the forums... I still can't live without their products though!

YuleNeverKnow · 07/12/2013 15:47

I'm a fan of Ultrabland cleanser, Imperialis moisturiser and Jungle conditioner. Bath bombs - no thank you.

bellasuewow · 07/12/2013 16:34

Pricey but I love the smells

bellasuewow · 07/12/2013 16:35

They are one of only 400 uk employers to pay a living wage so against being mean to humans as well as animals

roughtyping · 07/12/2013 16:48

MerryLittleKitten, I loved Sakura :( so sad it's not there anymore.

I used to hate Lush, would get a headache and couldn't understand why anyone would shop there - but it's now one of my favourite shops :)

AOBS is amazing (and Ultrabland is lovely too). I love their bath bombs but can't take to their bubble bars or shampoo bars - think my hair is too thick & straight for them - comes out v tangly :( which also happens if I use e.g. Paraben free shampoo as well.

Ooh DH has just texted asking what I want from Lush for Xmas Grin off for an online browse!

KenDoddsDadsDog · 07/12/2013 17:15

I love the snow cake soap , mainly buy stuff for DD though.
