to not understand Lush products

I would never buy then for myself because I can barely walk past the store without getting a headache from the fumes but I got a gift set for my birthday. This contains 5 bars of goop. One said it was bubble bath so I merrily threw it in the bath where it frothed for a bit, turned the water pink and made lots of lovely bubbles BUT there is still a huge lump of sticky pink mess left behind. What am I meant to do with this? It's all well and good being sanctimonious about using no packaging (not true though considering these goop bars were wrapped in 2 separate cardboard boxes each stuffed with filling) but I can hardly leave a half digested splodge of mess on the side of the bath for my DD to eat at bath time can I?

I'm trying to cut down on the amount of plastics used in my household, eg for packaging etc. This is just my personal thing, and I'm not judging people who want and enjoy the packaging things come in, but for me I'd rather buy my essentials in paper or cardboard, which can be recycled, or in plastics that have already been recycled and are still recyclable. So my shampoo is a soap bar (lovely stuff, lasts for ever) and my face wash is in a metal recyclable tin. It's not for everyone, but I'm glad I find this option on High Streets.
But the shops are a bit pungent....

GiraffesAndButterflies · 06/12/2013 10:11

Feminine- depends what you buy, some of them are as natural as it gets, others less so, but you could say that of any brand!

HerrenaHarridan · 06/12/2013 10:18

I love lush products, I adore the smell of the shop.

In general I don't do cosmetics but I but myself a bar of sofa from lush and cut it in half for the kitchen and bathroom.
It ensures myself and dc wash hands regularly and enthusiastically.
Also doesn't work out that expensive compared to liquid soap (although compared to say own brand car soap it is)

Also as an environmental activist groups I have been involved with have received donations from lush so I've got a soft spot for them Smile

HerrenaHarridan · 06/12/2013 10:19

Car soap Grin = bar soap

Canidae · 06/12/2013 10:22

I like the products and the smell but I don't go in there anymore as I am sick of being pounced on by 5 people as soon as I walk in. Just let me look at stuff!

sebsmummy1 · 06/12/2013 10:23

Oooh can I recommend the Big hair shampoo that comes in a black pot. It smells absolutely gorgeous and you only need a minuscule amount for a fab lather.

I ended up using it as my son's bathing wash as I loved the smell so much. It's just run out and I'm so upset as I'm not going near another store anytime soon, I'm going to have to see if u can order it online without a big delivery charge.

I generally don't go in their store due to the pushy sales staff and the products are expensive but I'm really glad I did on this occasion. I would definitely try another shampoo product based on my experience with the last.

I hate bath bombs btw. Don't understand them and don't want one in my bath thank you.

mrsjay · 06/12/2013 10:24

DD2 went through a lush Phase when ours just opened god it stank and she got glitter bath bombs god that was a nightmare to clean and the glitter was everywhere, our town centre all you can smell is LUSH she has grown out of it now

trashcanjunkie · 06/12/2013 10:25

sadly amongst my friends and I it's known as 'Thrush' due to the aftermath of their bath bombs.....

mrsjay · 06/12/2013 10:27

fiftyandfab · 06/12/2013 10:28

I adore LUSH. Now have the urge to drive into town for a LUSH splurge Grin

FoxMulder · 06/12/2013 10:29

The 'Angels on Bare Skin' face wash is the only thing that stops me getting spots. And I like that it feels like putty, because I'm childish Smile

mrsjay · 06/12/2013 10:32

DD got that fox and used it in a bloody weak i think she just played with it in the bath Shock

Pennythedog · 06/12/2013 10:32

I do like their shampoo and conditioner. I used to use the Body Shop honey shampoo but since they went all silicon and paraben free it leaves my hair like straw. Lush is very expensive but a bottle lasts me around 6 months.

Longdistance · 06/12/2013 10:35

I get caught by the fumes. I don't get the fascination either. I never see anyone in their stores, so it's lost on me.

Yanbu.

Pennythedog · 06/12/2013 10:35

I was going to say about the Angels on Bare Skin. Something to do with the pregnancy but I got terrible spots on my bum and it really clearer it up. I'm allergic to soap and alcohol on my face so it's one of the few cleansers that doesn't make me break out in spots.

FoxMulder · 06/12/2013 10:36

Oh no mrsjay! Mine lasts about 6-8 weeks.

I also like solid shampoo bars.

Binkyridesagain · 06/12/2013 10:37

I love their R&B hair conditioner. I've gone from frizzy curls to lovely smooth shiny curls.

pianodoodle · 06/12/2013 10:40

I was more a fuzzy peach girl

Oh that was my favourite when I was about fifteen I can smell it now :)

ZingSweetPea · 06/12/2013 10:42

I love their butterball bath bombs.
a friend buys me one every now and then - it's a real treat!

mrsjay · 06/12/2013 10:42

I think it is supposed to last that long fox because it is the putty feeling she probably just played with it Hmm

Yes Piano i could smell fuzzy peach too when i typed it, funny how memories come back like that

EssexGurl · 06/12/2013 10:58

We give them our plastic milk bottle tops as they are one of the few people that actually recycle them. We pop in every few months but I have never bought from there.

nicename · 06/12/2013 11:02

I break up the big ones and never buy anything with glitter/confetti/lumpy bits in them. The kiddies ones are nice. I like the geofizz one!

They're like all the overpriced bath stuff. Why spend all that money, when you could just use a plain soap and buy something more interesting instead?

LambinsideaDuckinsideaTrout · 06/12/2013 11:10

I love the fig and leaves soap. It's LUSH!
