to not understand Lush products

I would never buy then for myself because I can barely walk past the store without getting a headache from the fumes but I got a gift set for my birthday. This contains 5 bars of goop. One said it was bubble bath so I merrily threw it in the bath where it frothed for a bit, turned the water pink and made lots of lovely bubbles BUT there is still a huge lump of sticky pink mess left behind. What am I meant to do with this? It's all well and good being sanctimonious about using no packaging (not true though considering these goop bars were wrapped in 2 separate cardboard boxes each stuffed with filling) but I can hardly leave a half digested splodge of mess on the side of the bath for my DD to eat at bath time can I?

You're supposed to break a bit off.

SaggyOldClothCatPuss · 06/12/2013 11:16

I don't like lush. Far to smelly and I hate the really pushy staff. I'm also not interested in my money going to hunt sabs and animal rights 'activists'.

ThePearShapedToad · 06/12/2013 11:17

If if was a bubble bath bar then you have to crumble little bits of it under running water. It's like a solid bubble bath. But it should have come with direction on the label

ErrolTheDragon · 06/12/2013 11:19

bet teens love it as much as I loved my Strawberry perfume from Body Shop!

My 14 yo doesn't - she says it's overpriced, and neither of us like the overwhelming smell anywhere near a Lush shop. She prefers Body Shop. Our favourite soap is TigerMuffin glycerine soap from the farmers' market, £1 a bar, smells lovely (esp the essential oil Rose Geranium) and it doesn't cause DH's eczema to erupt.

verytellytubby · 06/12/2013 11:20

I hate Lush. The smell makes me gag.

gordyslovesheep · 06/12/2013 11:20

oh I love it Grin I have 3 children who like bath bombs and bubble bars and I adore Flying Fox shower gel

ExcuseTypos · 06/12/2013 11:22

I can't stand the smell. What the heck do they put into their products?

My nose and eyes itche just walking past the shop.

2Tinsellytocare · 06/12/2013 11:23

They have a lovely Santa bath bomb that smells of satsumas

Xfirefly · 06/12/2013 11:32

I do like lush but understand why people don't because I do agree the smell is strong. agree with glitter explosions and some skin staining.

I just like to get in and out because I always get pounced on by at least 2 staff members trying to tell me how to use stuff and what its all good for... I hate having to say yes yes I know I'm a beauty and an aroma therapist Blush

yes next time crumble a little bit, they last quite a few baths.

tip: good for stinky dogs Smile

VisualiseAHorse · 06/12/2013 11:32

Angels on Bare Skin is lovely, I use it like a face pack.

Also used the lovely massage bars for my bump when pregnant.

Most lush stuff can be made at home for a fraction of the price. Bath bombs & jelly soap make great Xmas gifts and are fun to make with the kids when the weather is crap. Youtube has lots of how to videos.

DoJo · 06/12/2013 11:47

I hate walking past it - it's like being punched in the face with a sack full of pot pourri! Can't imagine ever inviting that stench into my house...

MrsMoon76 · 06/12/2013 12:07

My husband is obsessed with the place and just can't walk past it. We have a deal - I go off and do what I need to do and then collect him (and whatever he has bought). Only thing is that he is quite shy and hates that the staff keep pouncing on him. I think its all very overpriced.

Baazinga · 06/12/2013 12:13

I hate LUSH...or I thought I did until a friend bought me the bubble bath bar for my birthday....an currently MNing in a bright pink frothy silky smooth bath hoping that DS doesn't wake up for at least another 30 minutes...

Lovecat · 06/12/2013 12:16

I hate LUSH's sales assistants (or rather, the training they're given as I can't imagine anyone is that obnoxiously perky about soap in real life).

I am a miserable bitch who really doesn't like shopping for toiletries, mmkay? Just leave me to browse, goddammit and stop asking me personal questions about my age and skin!

Pointeshoes · 06/12/2013 12:43

I love lush, and would buy all of the bath bombs if I could. It is expensive and that does put me off buying more at Christmas for presents. The non animal testing is good too. I shop online , do agree with the strong smelling shops.

Kundry · 06/12/2013 12:43

I don't understand how they make 'natural ingredients' smell so overwhelmingly synthetic.

Just walking past the place you get a horrible synthetic chemical smell and for me, instant migraine.

Theodorous · 06/12/2013 12:53

I hate hate hate them. They funded the twatty Plane Stupid protest yet have a shop in Doha and air freight their stinking shit by air. Smug, dishonest and crap.

Chippednailvarnish · 06/12/2013 12:54

They do a great shampoo bar that really eases itchy scalps, it smells vile but strangely once your hair is dry it smells fine. I would recommend it to anyone who has had skin reactions to shampoos...

jellybeans · 06/12/2013 12:56

I love LUSH!! Fab products.

Retropear · 06/12/2013 13:00

Dream cream is amazing,we all use it for everything.

Flangeofmingetown · 06/12/2013 13:09

I adore their Sikkim Girls perfume. It smells like every hippy tat shop with Rug rags and Nomads clothing I wafted around in during the 1990's

FruitbatAuntie · 06/12/2013 15:02

I suspect part of the pushy sales staff routine is because none of the stores have CCTV (the owner disagrees with it or something) - so it's a loss prevention exercise too.

I used to love a lot of their products a few years ago - the more herbally smelling stuff mostly. However they have discontinued a lot of it and replaced it with loads of very sickly sweet smelling fluorescent stuff instead. I don't buy from there very often now due to this.

HerrenaHarridan · 06/12/2013 15:24

Although its true they did donate some money to plane stupid they did not fund them as this would suggest (to me at least) that they bankrolled the whole thing

As for 'flying their stinking shit' this is also largely incorrect. Staff in the store in Doha will be trained to make the majority of it themselves.
