In dds class and her teachers? Think there's about 30 all together.

Really fancy doing it. I can get the stuff from £1 shops.

D you think this would be daft? And what would you think if your child received it from another child?

We're making the cone one for my two youngest kids' classes. There's only 18 in each class though so not too bad.

onlyfortonight · 02/12/2013 22:20

That is a great idea!

Just need to come up with a dairy free alternative for one child...

The girls will love filling them all up!

HoHolepew · 02/12/2013 22:22

I think its lovely. I'm going to do it for my class in work .
Hope the new year brings you better health Flowers.

AliceinSlumberland · 02/12/2013 22:24

when I made them I found I needed loads of hot chocolate to make it look decent, which ended up being costly. Maybe I was doing it wrong?

HoHolepew · 02/12/2013 22:24

I've seen the same ideaon Pinterest but done with jars. Old jam or coffee jars would probable do, with the candy cane tied on with ribbon.

Can you actually buy white chocolate powder?

ChippingInLovesChristmasLights · 02/12/2013 22:25

SaucyJack - so one child can't be given a treat unless the other get exactly the same? That's simply not practical once they hit school!

Mummy that sounds lovely Xmas Smile It would be lovely to check with the teacher and see if there are any children with allergies and see if there's something you could take for them too - if not, hopefully their parents have a 'treat box' at school for them to choose from.

applepearorangebear · 02/12/2013 22:28

Lovely idea Smile I might make MIL one for her Christmas stocking (she v. into homemade things, I am totally uncreative and fairly cack-handed, but I reckon I might just about be able to manage one of these, and she'd be dead impressed!) Could I ask where you get the bags from please?

Spherical · 02/12/2013 22:29

That is a lovely gift OP but do bear in mind that marshmallows are not suitable vegetarians. The ones that are suitable for vegetarians are super expensive!

BaldricksTurnip · 02/12/2013 22:32

God people can be so nasty! Brave behind your keyboard aren't you Bradsplit. Honestly Angry

OP what a lovely idea Smile

cogitosum · 02/12/2013 22:36

HoneyDragon what is the number Christmas biscuit recipe? (sorry for hijack)

SaucyJack · 02/12/2013 22:38

SaucyJack - so one child can't be given a treat unless the other get exactly the same? That's simply not practical once they hit school!

Firstly- it would actually be perfectly practical for schools to ban the giving out of ALL food treats/sweets unless provided for the entire school by the office/staff. Noone would die.

And secondly- I didn't say it shouldn't be done. But the OP asked what I as a parent thought, and if I'm being honest I do not think happy thoughts when only one of my kids comes into the playground at the end of the day with a lolly for such-and-such's birthday and I either need to go to the shop to buy more, or listen to one of them whinging all the way home. And yes, I am a misery guts.

FuckingFuck · 02/12/2013 22:39

Lovely idea OP. It's something I would consider doing when DS is in school! Would love if he came home with something like this too, it's very thoughtful.

Bradsplit that's a delightful comment Hmm What's the OP's employment status got to do with you exactly?!

HoneyDragon · 02/12/2013 22:40

Xmas biscuit

cogitosum · 02/12/2013 22:45

Thank you.

KatOD · 02/12/2013 22:49

Really lovely idea, I think you're really kind.

I did a quick search for veggie marshmallows and they're pretty easy to get hold of (or there are loads of recipes for making vegan ones online). For dairy free, make vegan marshmallows and just use cocoa powder (and they can add soya milk themselves)... Or if you're feeling really flush try out www.the-chocolatier.co.uk his stuff is amazing (but pricey!).

TheZeeTeam · 02/12/2013 22:52

OP, we're also adding "soup stirrers" candy canes, tied to the ribbon. You know, just to jack up the sugar quantity and all.... Wink

I decided to do this a while back as usually we send all the class a Xmas card written by the DCs and it's, quite frankly, painful. They don't enjoy it, get bored and start writing terribly. I would much prefer to spend an afternoon doing this kind of more crafty kind of thing that Xmas cards for kids!!

TheZeeTeam · 02/12/2013 22:54

Hyva That is GENIUS!! Re white chocolate powder. Although, white chocolate can be pretty sickly without all the other stuff...hmmm...I will just have to try both in the name of research. Wink

WhizzFucker · 02/12/2013 23:06

To add a bit of bah-humbug to the thread, I think doing gifts for the whole class is escalating the pressure on people to give Christmas presents to another level and is therefore a BAD THING.

After receiving your present, even if no kid or parent goes away thinking maybe they should be doing gifts for the whole class too, the idea of whole-class gift giving will have become just a bit more normalised, so add just a bit more to the stress, feeling of obligation, consumerism...

Artandco · 02/12/2013 23:07

Am I being stupid but... How do you actually make it without getting a huge mess everywhere or melting all the marshmellows at the bottom?
I mean I would make a hot choc all mixed up then add cream/ marshmellows ontop.
Do you have to pour marshmellows out but not the rest then make hot Choc and put marshmellows on top, or do you just pour it all in so it all mushes up? How does it fit? Does it go in a mixing bowl? Or does it make more than one drink?

Sorry..

SecretWitch · 02/12/2013 23:12

I think it's lovely! I wish I had the time/ resources to do so myself..

MyCatHasStaff · 02/12/2013 23:13

I would snip the end off the bag, so choc first, then marshmallows.

TidyDancer · 02/12/2013 23:15

They look lovely. :)

Marshmallows aren't veggie friendly so I couldn't have it, but they do look amazing.

Really sweet idea!

MoreLifeInATrampsVest · 02/12/2013 23:17

Artandco You snip the end off the cone so the chocolate powder pours out first Wink

MoreLifeInATrampsVest · 02/12/2013 23:19

X post with Cat...

Mummytotwox · 02/12/2013 23:20

What I do is put the hot choc in a separate cone bag, snip th top off and cellotape it down. Then put that into another cone bagx
