Like saying 'I'm not a savoury person' or 'I'm not a main course type'.

fecking daft thing to declare. nobbers.

and it's pudding. not dessert.

I too don't see the fuss about cake, chocolate, pudding, dessert, sweets, ice cream etc etc. I hate all the 'mmmmmmmm-ness' the like of which is only acceptable in the under 10s. I also hate the word 'yummy' coming from an adult about food they are eating. It's all just so childish. And I bloody hate the whole 'I shouldn't by I will' justification some adults apply to pudding. Who cares? Eat it or don't but shut up about it.

Give me a ripe, creamy Camembert and a decent red / port any day of the week.

WorraLiberty · 26/11/2013 21:01

Talking of kids

My kids always want dessert but now they're too old for the kid's menu, why are desserts always so fucking massive??

Nearly all the restaurants and carveries around here only serve humungous glasses of ice cream, or huge chunks of cake on the adult menu.

Try asking for a couple of scoops of ice cream like they have on the kids menu, and apparently they can't have it because they ate from the adult menu.

It's a proper waste of money and they feel bad leaving so much of it, even though we tell them not to worry.

AtYourCervix · 26/11/2013 21:02

It is weird.

how can you not like sweet stuff? like not liking all non-sweet stuff.

'afters' is common

and 'sweet' is common pretending to be fancy .

I'm not a dessert person.

AtYourCervix · 26/11/2013 21:04

I'll tell you what is real really wierd though.I have gone off cheese Shock

KungFuBustle · 26/11/2013 21:07

Happy to be common. I just don't care for sweet. A nice cheese though, mmmmm. I almost got the m&s cheese wedding cake instead of the sponge one.

Crowler · 26/11/2013 21:08

I almost never order dessert, my weakness is savory foods. I would overwhelmingly prefer to have a glass of port instead. Is this considered a stealth boast?

BIWI · 26/11/2013 21:09
Shock

Are you alright?

Ms23 · 26/11/2013 21:10

If I ate pudding every time I wanted it I would be the size of a house! Grin Sometimes its easier to say you don't like it becaue the alternatives are 'I don't feel like any tonight' or 'I'm on a diet' - both of which result in someone trying to persuade you or telling you that you're not fat I know I'm not - but thats because I don't eat pudding all the time

RaxacoricofallapatorianCatpuss · 26/11/2013 21:10

Its the dessert course. "Would you like to see the dessert menu Madam?"...

And the answer is..."Do bears shit in the woods?"

LackaDAISYcal · 26/11/2013 21:11

Jesus, do I know you? my friend does that!

NuggetofPurestGreen · 26/11/2013 21:11

Well I do like sweet things OP however I am not bothered about having a dessert or anything sweet after a big meal in a restaurant or someone's house. Especially if I'm having wine!!! So therefore I'm not a dessert person as I don't like sweet things in that specific format ie after a meal!

LackaDAISYcal · 26/11/2013 21:11

gone off cheeese? you're not preggers are you?

ShreddedHoops · 26/11/2013 21:12

I really want some cheese and some whisky now.

runningonwillpower · 26/11/2013 21:13

Saimotrutta - you just took me back to my roots. And made me laugh.

My Gran would say stuff just like that, 'I'm not a cheese hand'. And she definitely wasn't a sausage hand!

I don't have a sweet tooth. So, isn't it better to say, 'I'm not a pudding/sweet/dessert person' than 'I'm no way going to eat what you've just served up?'

Golddigger · 26/11/2013 21:14

Once at a restaurant I had a starter, then main, then another starter. The chef came out to have a look at me.

That is one of the funniest things I have read for a while! Grin

DamnBamboo · 26/11/2013 21:14

It's common to call people common (so says my vair posh friend!).

Some people aren't made on sweet things and just don't fancy dessert.

I don't see this as being odd.

My husband would think you were ill for not entertaining cheese anymore Smile

AtYourCervix · 26/11/2013 21:15

I know! Shock

it's the weirdest thing ever.

pudding.

OP posts:
Salmotrutta · 26/11/2013 21:15

Yes - pudding and dessert are acceptable but "sweet" is vulgar according to Debrett's Etiquette Guide which I snorted over when staying at a pretentious friend's and they had it on their guest room dressing table

LadyBeagleEyes · 26/11/2013 21:22

I usually go for a starter and a main.
I sometimes eat pudding but yes I'm usually too full and yes I often say the portions are too big and don't finish them.
I'm skinny, I just don't eat much.

runningonwillpower · 26/11/2013 21:23

Saimotrutta - oh the neck of you!

As for Cervix the OP, if I had room for pudding, I'd have another starter. Cos that's my preference and I prefer starters to pudding.

Why? Because I don't like puddings!

So there!
