Like saying 'I'm not a savoury person' or 'I'm not a main course type'.

fecking daft thing to declare. nobbers.

and it's pudding. not dessert.

OP posts:

But I am not a dessert person.... I'm just not.

Is it the poor use of English you object to or the fact that they don't like dessert.

And it's not strictly pudding every time either.

Perhaps 'sweet'... I'm not a sweet person Smile

MrsOakenshield · 26/11/2013 20:42

DH isn't a pudding person, he will very very occasionally have some ice cream, but that's it. Don't think it's that unusual?

Mintyy · 26/11/2013 20:42

"I don't really like sweet foods"

  • will that do you op?
ghostonthecanvas · 26/11/2013 20:42

I once had 4 puddings while I was out because I couldn't choose just one.
At no point would I ever say I am not a dessert person. Grin nor would I ask for desserts. Unless the serving person didn't understand the word pudding. (I have an accent) Then I would panic and use any words necessary to get my pudding.

SicknSpan · 26/11/2013 20:43

I'm with you Arcadian. Gimme a scotch egg over a doughnut any day (I know this makes me weird!)

DamnBamboo · 26/11/2013 20:44

Oh, I do like scotch egg...

Not so werid sicknspan

catellington · 26/11/2013 20:44

Oh except raw celery.

Arcadian · 26/11/2013 20:46

Haha spicknspan!

I'd be much more pleased with a multipack of crisps than a box of chocolates!

catsrus · 26/11/2013 20:48

I'm not a dessert person - not really got a sweet tooth, very few puddings that I would ever want to eat. The main reason I would say "I'm not a desert person" is in response to the annoying people who say "oh go on, have one, you don't need to lose weight" Biscuit oh duh I'm not trying to lose weight I don't want dessert "oh go on" they say "treat yourself" its not a treat if I don't like it "you only live once" they say .... So I reply "I'm not a dessert person" because I'm not.

Karou · 26/11/2013 20:49

I don't care what you call it, if it has lots of sugar in it I want it. Can start a meal with it if needs be some idiot insists on starters over dessert

WorraLiberty · 26/11/2013 20:49

I don't eat dessert because I prefer a starter and I can't eat 3 courses.

I don't know why people call it 'pudding' though?

What if you're having a fruit platter...how can that be 'pudding'? Shock

DeadSalmon · 26/11/2013 20:49

Come now, OP, you know that the dessert/pudding/sweet/afters question is one of the biggest class shibboleths!

Personally, I'm not bothered which word you use, or whether you want a sweet course at the end of the meal or not, just as long as dessert-refusal isn't part of a meal-long mantra on how you have an appetite like a little bird, and ooh, how huge the servings are in this restaurant and couldn't the waitress take half of it back to the kitchen, because you couldn't possibly, and if you ate all that you'd have to be very good tomorrow and burn it all off etc etc.

ICameOnTheJitney · 26/11/2013 20:50

I'm not a dessert person! YABU! After a big dinner I can never manage a pudding too.

NumTumRedRum · 26/11/2013 20:50

If my mother says that Mary Z, it definitely means she thinks I should be on a diet. She makes me want to eat twixs in secret. Confused

Talkinpeace · 26/11/2013 20:52

I do not eat chocolate
I do not like most sweet food

luckily at social events, DH scoffs mine before the host notices Wink

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 26/11/2013 20:53

I'm not a dessert person so ner

Once at a restaurant I had a starter, then main, then another starter. The chef came out to have a look at me Blush

nooka · 26/11/2013 20:53

I'm with you catsrus. I don't like most desserts in restaurants because I find them too sweet and I don't really have a sweet tooth. If I do buy one I am often disappointed. I've probably said 'I'm not really a cake sort of person' more often though (for the same reason). Possibly because I was brought up never to say that I didn't like any sort of food, so it's easier to take the blame myself IYSWIM.

I'm not on a diet (never have dieted) and I'm certainly not making a comment about the other person, I'd be happy for them to eat a pudding/desert, and I hope they enjoy it of course.

OddBoots · 26/11/2013 20:54

dh doesn't like dessert but he does like cheese or coffee so that's what he has if we eat out.

PenelopePipPop · 26/11/2013 20:54

Well expressing your personality through the parts of a meal you choose to eat is odd so to that extent YANBU. The same goes for 'dog people' and 'cat people' who honestly think their preference in quadrupeds tells you all you need to know about them - and sadly it often does.

But sure there cannot be anything wrong with not wanting to eat part of a meal? We're adults, we don't have to clear our plates, or eat anything we don't want to. Ideally children should not have to either, but that is a different topic.

JugglingFromHereToThere · 26/11/2013 20:56

I'm not a pudding person, but am looking forward to my selection of sorbets at our Christmas meal - I love a nice sorbet.
With cake or other puddings I'd just rather enjoy them with a nice Brew about 3 hours earlier (and so on their own, to properly appreciate them)
But basically why not just say enthusiastically what you do want Smile
Oh, I think I'll have the cheese-board - I love some nice cheese
or I'll just have a liquer/ coffee instead of pudding
Anything like that seems a bit more friendly?

Salmotrutta · 26/11/2013 20:57

How about "I'm not a dessert pudding hand."

Disclaimer: "hand" may be very peculiarly Scottish.

I am not a sausage "hand"...

Salmotrutta · 26/11/2013 20:58

Oh.

And puddings can be savoury aksherly.

Like steak and kidney.

catellington · 26/11/2013 20:59

Me and dh once went to a Mexican restaurant for dinner. He had chicken fajitas - he loves chicken fajitas. It wasn't cheap, about £15. When the waitress came to ask for our dessert orders, I ordered my dessert - he ordered - yep you guessed it, chicken fajitas! Blush

She stood open mouthed and asked again to double check, he calmly just said I enjoyed it and I want another one!
