Just seen the advert for her Christmas album. 'Oh come let us adore him' indeed. Rarrrr.

(feeling irritated.....)

OP posts:

There's a lot of singers out there that I don't care for musically but I still wish them well. If people want to listen to them and buy their music it's no skin off of my nose. Maybe it all boils down to how we're brought up. Some people are good and kind and don't enjoy hurting people. Others are bullies, pure and simple.

Wuxiapian · 29/11/2013 08:37

She's not a very good singer, but I admire her spirit.

Good luck to her!

BitOutOfPractice · 29/11/2013 08:41

OP I'm with you. I've never forgiven her for Wild Horses tbh and my irritation with her continues. YANBU

BitOutOfPractice · 29/11/2013 08:42

And Jaris I'm sorry but finding her irritating does not make anyone a bully or badly brought up fgs. Lighten up a bit!

SatinSandals · 29/11/2013 08:47

It is a bit cruel to post it. I doubt she would say it to her face.
You would find it bullying if a child said it about another child and invited other children to agree- but somehow adults saying it anonymously is perfectly OK. Hmm if you don't want children doing it you should practice what you preach and not say 'it is different'.

BitOutOfPractice · 29/11/2013 09:07

What did she actually say? That she is irritated by her album. Wow! Harsh!

Cruel? Bullying? Really? I see much harsher things said to people directly on here and about famous people on here every 5 minutes! Nobody bats an eyelid. Yet it's cruel and bullying to say you don't like the Sainted Susan's music. Really?

And what I would find bullying to a child, said to their face, is such a silly analogy it's untrue.

Monetbyhimself · 29/11/2013 09:13

Nasty thread. I don't get this desire to criticise and slate things that I don't like. Do you teach your children to behave like this OP? If you don't like something just STFU. It must be exhausting spending your time criticising.

SatinSandals · 29/11/2013 12:05

I have said the same about other threads about people in the public eye. I am irritated by lots of people, but I don't say so and invite others to agree.
In RL it is bullying, no wonder you get cyber bullying when people think it doesn't matter if anonymous and on line.

SatinSandals · 29/11/2013 12:07

If I was to look up Nottalotta and see her posts, which I haven't done and will not do, and then started a thread saying 'Nottalotta is irritating, don't you agree?', it would be removed. What is the difference?

BitOutOfPractice · 29/11/2013 16:24

It would be different because

  1. Nottalotta said she finds the album irritating! Not SB
  2. Nottalotta would in all likelihood read it
  3. Nottalotta has not put her creative offerings up to public scrutiny thereby inviting critcism as well as praise

I stand by anyone's right to say they don't like someone's work. I could wax lyrical about my hatred for the music of Coldplay for instance and how irritating I find them. In fact even thinking about chris Martin has made me feel grumpy

SoleSorceress · 29/11/2013 17:28

I like Susan Boyle and her voice. SO THERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

SatinSandals · 29/11/2013 17:44

I'm glad we have cleared that up- it isn't bullying if someone is unlikely to read it and saying someone should give up their career is in no way a personal attack!

YABU. It's so rare to see an older woman in the charts, we should keep her there! And if you can't sing "O Come All Ye Faithful" at this time of year, when can you?

BitOutOfPractice · 29/11/2013 19:05

I didn't say that. I was pointing out the flaws in the analogy.

So now we are not allowed to say we don't like someone's music / writing / art / opinions / designs / whatever because it's bullying? Utterly ridiculous!

SatinSandals · 29/11/2013 19:08

Of course you can say that- but not starting a thread asking everyone to agree!

BitOutOfPractice · 29/11/2013 19:34

Erm you know this is aibu don't you?

SatinSandals · 29/11/2013 19:55

I do-and I know how AIBU generally ends up. Grin

SatinSandals · 29/11/2013 19:56

Certainly most people who start AIBU think that they are entirely reasonable, and they continue to do so whatever they hear to the contrary!

Alisvolatpropiis · 29/11/2013 20:00

It doesn't much bother me whether she continues releasing songs, I can continue to actively avoid her music.

I agree with others who have said her voice is not actually that outstanding. I don't wish her ill, good luck to her. But much like Cliff Richard I'd rather stick pins in my eyes than listen to her music.

It isn't bullying to say one doesn't like her music. That is merely an opinion. Making fun of her appearance etc would be bullying. Bit hysterical to say the OP is "bullying" Susan Boyle. If I met Susan Boyle and she asked if I listened to her music, I would say no. Why would I lie?

BitOutOfPractice · 29/11/2013 20:06

I would say "no. It's not my cup of tea and I love the originals of some of the songs you've covered and don't like your version". How is that bullying? To say I don't like her music?

PosyNarker · 29/11/2013 20:15

She's distinctly mediocre at best for what she's doing. I don't begrudge her success any more than the next talent contest success story, but yes, I could quite merrily never hear her work again.

Now if I was a jobbing stage singer with years and training, a better instrument and nowhere hear her money, then I could see myself being bitter Grin Fortunately I am not. Although the problem is with these bloody contests, not the contestants.

She is, on balance, less annoying than One Direction

Lweji · 29/11/2013 20:23

There are loads of talentless acts around. If people still buy her, good for her. I'm sure she'll disappear when her records don't sell.

sandfrog · 29/11/2013 21:13

Exactly Lweji. Having no talent isn't exactly unusual in the pop music world Grin
