Just seen the advert for her Christmas album. 'Oh come let us adore him' indeed. Rarrrr.

(feeling irritated.....)

Sorry, to make much money, but there should be enough investment so that small performances can happen.

LessMissAbs · 24/11/2013 23:53

I think people who think other people who are achieving far more than them in life should give up, should give up.

Its becoming repetitive and annoying.

jaris30 · 25/11/2013 00:06

@morethanpotatoprints , you're dead wrong about her last tour dates. get your facts right before you make a comment like that. She did 7 concerts in Scotland, they were all sold out, she sang 24 songs and was amazing. I was there.
If you don't like her, that's fine, you're entitled to your opinion, but so is everyone else and a lot of people don't agree with you.

BrianTheMole · 25/11/2013 00:14

Crikey, she's not mediocre at all. Confused

guffaw · 25/11/2013 02:51

SatinSandals · 25/11/2013 07:05

She has a lovely voice and I think it unfair for people to be so horrible anonymously - why do you need to do it OP? If you can't say anything nice then don't bother saying anything. Saying it to her face would be cruel so why hide behind anonymity? It is still cruel. I think she has done very well to get as far as she has and wish her luck.

themaltesefalcon · 25/11/2013 07:05

I'm not a fan. She's butchered some of my favourite carols. Why does everything have to sound so tame and bland and Disneyfied?

She has a beautiful (trained) voice but her repertoire is horrendous. You'll Never Walk Alone, I Dreamed a Dream, Mull of Kin-fucking-tyre? The woman has no shame.

But no, she shouldn't stop. Obviously, there is a large swath of the population who go in for that sentimental, often mawkish, unmusical shit. They can knock themselves out. ~optimist~

TidyDancer · 25/11/2013 07:10

I actually don't like her voice very much at all and wouldn't listen to her out of choice. But even I admire her for her spirit and the back story. She's a fighter and that's something to be celebrated even if you don't like the music she makes or the way she sings it.

SatinSandals · 25/11/2013 07:12

Quite, TidyDancer, sums up my feelings.

Sparrowlegs248 · 25/11/2013 08:39

I really don't know her backstory - so comments about mental health and learning disabilities are new to me i'm afraid. So sorry if i have offended anyone in that respect.

I didn't think i ws being cruel - seriously? Think i may have drifted onto another website by accident.

To rephrase 'I am already feeling irritated, i wish Susan Boyle would give up singing some fabulous songs in such a bland way, and i didn't say her voice was crap...'

She has a perfectly ordinary untrained voice. She is an ok amateur, but just ok. Every am dram club in Scotland has singers that would sing her off the stage. I promise you there would have been 50 better I dreamed a dream renditions on her audition day. But from singers who weren't a bit funny looking and a bit odd, so the manipulators couldn't get a teary eyed judge moment.

Good luck to her, she has had a shite life and she should bleed every penny out of this. But but it does make me grind my teeth when she is touted as the greatest musical theatre voice ever. She isn't.

HumphreyCobbler · 25/11/2013 09:33

I have to agree that she really is not that good a singer.

But I don't care that much, I just don't listen to her.

SatinSandals · 25/11/2013 09:55

I don't listen to her either but I hate the double standards. Recently there was a thread about 4yr old teasing and people were very hard on them as if children come into the world knowing how to be PC and empathetic and I pointed out at the time that MN is worse than any school playground.
I don't think public figures should be fair game to start a thread saying she should give up and inviting everyone to agree. She gives a lot of pleasure to some people and if no one listens to her she will give up. It is unpleasant. I take into account that OP didn't know anything about Susan Boyle and her problems in life, but it just goes to show that you should be a bit kinder in the first place. It seemed to say to me that women over a certain age, over a certain weight who are not attractive in a conventional sense and who have learning difficulties should stay hidden and not seek the limelight.
Lots of singers sing fabulous songs in a bland way and I could list ones that irritate me but so what? Market forces dictate whether they can do it or not.

101handbags · 25/11/2013 11:52

YABU - it's far better that she advertises on TV then risks inventing another unsuitable twitter hashtag like last time #susanalbumparty

lljkk · 25/11/2013 12:58

I think it's a good thing OP is judging SB on her merits as a performer & a singer. Not on her backstory.

I sort of class her in the Daniel O'Donnell genre. Appeals to a certain sort of person IYKWIM.
Nobody knows anyone who would buy their CDs but they sell loads. Confused

She's distinctly mediocre. She has an good voice but not a great one by any stretch of the imagination. Her albums are dreadfully over produced and the digital cleaning up on her vocals is considerable. I've had the misfortune of hearing her live and she was off key and out of time as well. She is simply a wonderful marketing and profit making opportunity for the management company. I couldn't care less about her back story, the quality of her voice is far from amazing.

Martha345

I've reported you for your continual linking to dodgy websites on this site.

This is the second thread where you're done that.

thenightsky · 25/11/2013 14:12

What's dodgy about that link? SB is fully clothed and looks happy enough.

Heartbrokenmum73 · 25/11/2013 14:15

Ok, so dodgy is the wrong word in this context.

However, the point of the link is quite unpleasant ('she's no star'?) and coupled with the other thread (where two naked pictures of someone have been linked, with other posters complaining of a porn pop-up when they clicked), I'm more than a bit suspicious.

Especially when the poster has no other posting history on this site, just links to demeaning pictures.

twells350 · 25/11/2013 14:17

@more than potatoes Susan Boyle isn't managed by her family. She has one of the best managers in the UK, Andy Stephens. Her first, 7-date tour last summer in Scotland was a sellout smash.

The date she cancelled in Blackpool in England had nothing to do with her tour, was not handled by her touring company or her manager or Syco, who all distanced themselves from it. It was a favor to her brother, who has always wanted to be an entertainment entrepreneur. She was to come on at the end and sing two songs after 90 minutes of cheesy, "end of the pier" entertainment. It was a disaster in the making. She finally was persuaded of that by her professional management and pulled out to the relief of everyone, to include her manager, Simon Cowell, Marshall Arts, and the rest of the Boyle family

Next year, she will be touring England, 19 dates in March-April. 2/3 of tickets sold in the first 2 days of going on sale.
