It's all in the title really. A woman just told me she had parked in one because she had a dog in her car. Aibu to think she is inconsiderate?

Our local tesco has p&c spaces round the side further away than other spaces, but its always full and not just used by those with kids. People prefer the wider spaces. For me I find them really helpful so I can help dc undo seat belts, without worrying about damaging any other car doors. When dc were babies they were really helpful as some normal spaces are so narrow I couldn't get the baby seats out of the car!

Oh great Maryz, you leave me here to get in trouble Wink Grin

TEEARDIS · 23/11/2013 16:27

Who me? Stalker of MaryZ?

Being American, that rhymed.

Even though I, of course, always read it as MaryZED. Always. Totally.

We are causing havoc in AIBU...

I don't see why this 'having a baby isn't a disability' argument is brought up every time there is this conversation. No, having a baby isn't a disability, everyone accepts that, and that they Parent and Child spaces are not as necessary as disabled spaces. So what? Why does that mean that Parent and Child spaces aren't a good idea? I found them very useful when I had two under-twos to get out of the car and would not have dreamed of parking in one when I was without small children.

Someone will now say babies don't dissolve if it rains. True, but their clothes and blankets and the padding on their car seats/buggies gets wet, which isn't much fun for them if they're tiny and not moving much.

fluffyraggies · 23/11/2013 16:29

Having the extra space is handy, but not essential. Most posters here are parents and do actually know what it's like to get young kids (even more than one at a time! gasp!) in and out of a car.

To those saying they need the space - what do you do when you are in a car park with no P&C spaces? Just not go there?

I vote for putting extra wide spaces further away from the shop for all those that feel they would benefit from them.

(disabled bays stay near the store)

CoffeeQueen187 · 23/11/2013 16:29

I think P+C spaces are a godsend! The extra room makes it so much easier to get the baby in and out of the car in his car seat, and also reduces the risk of DS1&2 slamming their doors into other cars (DS1 has sen and therefore has no filter telling him what is and isn't ok to do, like flinging his door open without thinking). I don't think they need to be near the shop though, I think those spaces are needed for the disabled parking spaces.

I wouldn't be pissed off if someone used a P+C space without having children in the car though. As others have said, they are a convenience, not a necessity.

Catnap26 · 23/11/2013 16:29

I wouldn't care less if the spaces were right outside the front door or half a mile away I would still NEED to use them.neither of my children can walk safely so if I am unable to get a P&C space I have to put them in and out of the trolley individually leaving one of them to the rear of the car as cars go past.how is that safe?

TheRealAmandaClarke · 23/11/2013 16:30

YANBU.
But be prepared for a MN thrashing when a bunch of enthusiasts get their PMs about this thread.

It's thoughtless. Try not to let it bother you.

TEEARDIS · 23/11/2013 16:30

Is this a good time to mention I don't drive and don't have a car?

I'll get me coat.

optimusic · 23/11/2013 16:31

Why do people take the baby seats out of the car, surely everyone knows by now that babies should not be in carseats for long periods of time... Well, everyone apart from the op.

Sparklingbrook · 23/11/2013 16:31

Ooh a P&C space thread. My two penny's worth-

We don't have any P&C spaces in our town.
Buy a car with sliding rear doors if you have children.
Use Click and Collect or Home Delivery if P&C spaces wind you up.

Was it a nice dog?

GobblersKnob · 23/11/2013 16:31

I would LOVE to see them all moved to the furthest point of the car park from the store, you can bet your life they would pretty much always be empty.

TheRealAmandaClarke · 23/11/2013 16:31

Yy Abra

MaryZygon · 23/11/2013 16:31

Are we derailing the thread?

[hopeful]

It isn't that Abra1d - it's fine to have them if there is spacd. It's fine to use them if they are there. But there are people who need them more, and the feeling of entitlement they seem to engender among parents is very irritating.

Personally I think they should be replaced by "older people" spaces. My parents are both in their '80s. They don't yet (thankfully) need a blue badge, but they are finding it progressively more difficult to get around.

Catnap26 · 23/11/2013 16:33

Fluffy-if there are no P&C spaces then I park in a space where there isn't a car either side of me.it really is very tricky getting two kids out and into pushchair or trolley without your car door leaning on another car.

MaryZygon · 23/11/2013 16:33

Catnap, if you can't manage two kids under 2 safely, then maybe you shouldn't go out Shock

I had three under four, two not walking back when there were no P&C spaces. It is possible.

BaileysOnRocks · 23/11/2013 16:33

I don't think you should use p & c spaces unless you have a reason. I struggle getting a baby and toddler out of compact spaces and trying to get them through the busy car park where cars can speed round corners. There is a safety element to it.

If you are that selfish to let a woman with children struggle just so you can park right outside the door then I think that's wrong.

Tiredmumno1 · 23/11/2013 16:33

was it a nice dog? Grin

TEEARDIS · 23/11/2013 16:33

Yes with our banter.

Someone will call us Royalty in a moment, I'm sure.

AIBU to think AIBU is a totally UR place for anything to happen?

optimusic · 23/11/2013 16:34

Never heard of a rain cover for the buggy? Fantastic invention. Stops baby, buggy, clothing etc getting wet.

But hey, if some of you would rather sit waiting for a space, then you must have too much time.

MaryZygon · 23/11/2013 16:35

TheRealAmandaClarke, did I read that right?

You really think that people need pm's to see these threads?

Grow up.

TEEARDIS · 23/11/2013 16:35

optimusic would you believe I used to manage a small person with no car in Belfast in the winter?

He's now 100 feet tall* at 4 so he obviously didn't shrink in the rain.

*Small exaggeration. He's actually 99.5 feet tall.

Catnap26 · 23/11/2013 16:36

TEE if there is no P&C then like I said I DO park elsewhere!
