NC (not for this) but I'm long-standing MNer (Pom bear, naice ham...)

This might ruin the whole concept of AIBU but sometimes people pop up with opinions that I am shocked by, not because of what they are but just because they are so marginal. (SPs Cliff Richard obsession, for example?)

So, whilst encouraging you all to go forth and spread your weird and wonderful thoughts all over AIBU and elsewhere, what really unpopular opinions do you hold?

I have a couple of corkers, first one is that Kanye West however much of a knob he is actually is a genius.

Cannot stand stand-up comedy
Like a couple of Westlife songs
Think children should not be allowed to play computer games and should be reading or doing something useful instead
Do not like dogs

headinhands · 21/11/2013 14:17

Another cheer for Bazza here. (I'm going to see him in May!!)

HoratiaDrelincourt · 21/11/2013 14:17

There are good reasons and bad reasons to HEd. Two well-adjusted people don't prove that HEdding works for everyone.

VerySmallSqueak · 21/11/2013 14:18

People who wish to hunt should be pursued by a couple of lions until they drop.

People who wish to wear fur should be skinned, and their hide sold to make handbags.

Arabesque1 · 21/11/2013 14:18

Kids have far too many toys nowadays and would be better off with fewer things that they play with more frequently, using their imagination to create different scenarios for them.

Fleta · 21/11/2013 14:18

musicpost - I don't agree with TheBigJessie but I don't agree with you when you say "Home education is 1000 times better than school" - for some children absolutely. For others definitely not Smile

FWIW if my DD ever had to leave her school I'd home ed her before sending her to the state sytem

Fleta · 21/11/2013 14:18

Or system. Despite what my keyboard wanted to type

Work isn't the be-all and end-all, and not having a personal desire to smash the glass ceiling and exhaust yourself in the process doesn't mean you're lazy, or lacking ambition.

I don't feel proud or liberated when I get to do lots of unpaid overtime. I feel miserable. If a senior staff member emails me when I have Out of Office on, I don't feel that I 'should' answer it, or else I'm not taking my job seriously.

Wannabestepfordwife · 21/11/2013 14:22

Anything described as epic (like Coldplay) is a pretentious crock of shite.

Bruce Forsythe isn't a national treasure he makes me cringe like mad.

I like Prince Phillip

The guardian is secretly written by a level students

Climate change is a crock of shite

headinhands · 21/11/2013 14:23

We shouldn't have to bring presents to children's parties. Does your child really need 2 black sacks of presents? (This is for school friend parties type thing)

Wannabestepfordwife · 21/11/2013 14:25

Rupert Murdoch is actually a Bond villain and has an underground layer

Wannabestepfordwife · 21/11/2013 14:26

Lair even

Minifingers · 21/11/2013 14:29

Many people (myself included) have more children than they cann cope with for no better reason than THEY WANT ANOTHER BABY.

People in shit relationships/housing/who are struggling with their finances, probably should think very hard before having a second/third/fourth child, and then probably not do it.

Minifingers · 21/11/2013 14:31

"A lot of people who decide to home school don't have the intelligence or stamina to actually do a good job."

And yet, astonishingly, their children usually seem to do very well academically, at least as well as similar children in the state sector who are being taught by paid professionals.

Go figure!

Arabesque1 · 21/11/2013 14:32

Working long hours and bringing work home with you at weekends isn't necessarily a sign that you're super important and high powered. Sometimes often it's a sign that you're struggling with the work or shite at managing your time.

ormirian · 21/11/2013 14:32

I prefer layer! I'd like to think he has stratifications like a Viennetta? Grin

headinhands · 21/11/2013 14:33

Hummus is fucking shit

monicalewinski · 21/11/2013 14:33

It's ok to write off an entire weekend sometimes, just staying in our jammies and watching films eating takeaway food.

I hate doing crafty stuff with children.

I love reed diffusers and have several of them round the house - there is no excuse to have a house that doesn't smell nice.

I like Prince Philip, too - and Camilla, Jeremy Clarkson and Margaret Thatcher.

TheBigJessie · 21/11/2013 14:34

musicposy you just made a very big error. I hope you're normally better than this, in regards to education.

I was home-educated. I am entirely cognizant of the realities. I used to parrot that absolute crap. I used to think I would home-educate my children. I grew up, I experienced true education, I stopped spouting crap.

ArbitraryUsername · 21/11/2013 14:35

The guardian isn't written by a level students. A significant portion of comment is free seems to be written by bored academics who can't be arsed writing a proper publication that will be peer reviewed. The rest of comment is free is essentially goady fuckers.

The reminder of the guardian seems to be cobbled together from agencies, twitter and YouTube.

VerySmallSqueak · 21/11/2013 14:37

I am very glad to be able to correct you and point out that Margaret Thatcher is in the past tense monica.

ormirian · 21/11/2013 14:39

Reality TV is crap cheap lowest common denominator programming and should be banned. I include Strictly, BGT et al. Sorry

People should only be famous for doing something wonderful and not for dropping their knickers on TV or having big tits or for being someone's partner.

Nylon sportswear should not be worn anywhere but at the track, sports ground or gym.

Not wildly contraversial I know but strongly held.

monicalewinski · 21/11/2013 14:40

Aaah - but I still like her, so very much present tense! Grin.

(To be fair, this is the only place I could say that one out loud, without fear!).

TheBigJessie · 21/11/2013 14:40

minifingers only one I've ever met was home-educated due to SN. By parents who had no other choice. And he wouldn't have got where he is today if it wasn't for his special school.

I've got a good number of emotionally abused and physically abused adults though. One of who has had her son taken away, as without intervention, this stuff turns generational.

I won't even get on to being taught maths by someone who failed O-level... oh wait. But it was out of a book, so that's okay, right?
