NC (not for this) but I'm long-standing MNer (Pom bear, naice ham...)

This might ruin the whole concept of AIBU but sometimes people pop up with opinions that I am shocked by, not because of what they are but just because they are so marginal. (SPs Cliff Richard obsession, for example?)

So, whilst encouraging you all to go forth and spread your weird and wonderful thoughts all over AIBU and elsewhere, what really unpopular opinions do you hold?

I have a couple of corkers, first one is that Kanye West however much of a knob he is actually is a genius.

Eating outdoors is always awful in the UK, agreed.

Going on holiday is awful and I would always prefer to stay at home.

Going on holiday somewhere "interesting" or "exotic" is even less enjoyable.

Camping is for unfortunate refugees and something to be avoided by lucky people at all costs. Choosing to camp goes against all the progress of your forebears and is akin to choosing to not vote; it's a dereliction of your duty to live well! Think of your poor great-grandparents! (I live amongst a load of jolly campers who seem to pity me, can you feel my pent-up anger!)

FreudiansSlipper · 21/11/2013 12:46

animals that are in shelters should be put down after two months

there are too many disowned pets around especially certain breeds of dogs. putting an animal down is not cruel, it is very quick and peaceful they do no know what is happening. keeping it in a cage for weeks and weeks hoping it will be re-homed is

gamerchick · 21/11/2013 12:53

No eating chocolate full stop is weird imo. Never saw the attraction in adults pregnancy and premenstrual cravings aside Grin

DropYourSword · 21/11/2013 12:53

I worry that there's no way I'll be able to love a child as much as I love my dog, who gives me unconditional love, is always pressed to see me and never ever argues, fights, disagrees with me or attempts to try my patience.

Daddypigsgusset · 21/11/2013 12:55

I think parents are lazy if their dc are still in nappies past 2. its absolutely unheard of where I come from and was such a shock when I came here and saw great big children running around soft play stinking of shit. Its not pleasant for anyone, get off your arse and sort it

HoratiaDrelincourt · 21/11/2013 12:55

Long hair looks messy worn down. Even if you're Kate Cambridge and have people on hand for touch-ups. Flicking your hair every two minutes - which you can't avoid if you have long hair worn down, don't kid yourself - looks juvenile and weak.

Goldenhandshake · 21/11/2013 13:00

Ooh I have loads Grin

I like Jeremy Clarkson, he makes me laugh I don't care how sexist/pompous/chauvinist etc he is.

Eating animal innards is fucked up, kidney, liver, stuffed hearts etc... bleurgh!

There is something sexy about Ray Winstone, if you squint a bit and just listen to him talk Wink

Lee Evans is highly overrated as a comedian, and Russell Howard makes my teeth itch.

There should be a cull of reality TV 'celebritys' there are far too many of them, the fuckers multiply like gremlins.

Prisons are too soft, there are too many privileges, there is no longer enough emphasis on punishment.

'Did you mean to sound so rude?' > doesn't even qualify as a come back, and you will get roundly laughed at for being an uppity prat for attempting to use it as one.

fairnotfair · 21/11/2013 13:12

People who bang on about how terribly "sensitive" and fragile they are ("oh, I suppose I'm just very sensitive; pay no attention to me") are usually phenomenally thin-skinned when it comes to themselves, but are remarkably cavalier about the feelings and wishes of others - who, I suppose, are automatically less sensitive than the special flower who can dish it out but who can't take it.

notso · 21/11/2013 13:15

Daddypigsgusset how do you manage it. I really would love to know as am really struggling with DS2 who is nearly 3. I would love him to be toilet trained, it's embarrassing especially as he is the size of a 4 year old.

NewBlueShoesToo · 21/11/2013 13:21

Leggings should only be worn by under 20's.
Cyclists on A roads with hairpin bends at night are not helping anyone.
Wine boxes are fantastic.
Radio 4 is not Radio Bore ( as my children/DH think)
Dark chocolate is much better than milk chocolate.

SomeDizzyWhore1804 · 21/11/2013 13:22

Golden- not unpopular at all about Ray Winstone. Man is a sex god.

AbsduCroissant · 21/11/2013 13:23

I initially subscribed to Gwyneth Paltrow's GOOP newsletter to take the piss. I now really, REALLY like it and look forward to reading it.

I do however, periodically get whacked back to reality when, for e..g I go "ooh, I like that candle she recommended" look it up and find out it costs $260.

mrspremise.....at last, a fellow worshipper for AM!!!

I have never got what women see in George Clooney, Brad Pitt or Johnny Depp.

All Christmas adverts should be banned on the telly until 1st December at the earliest [ Lilly Allen's fucking mockney singing is getting on my tits!!!]

I love Barry Manilow

miffybun73 · 21/11/2013 13:29

Can't stand

Cats
Dogs
Cream cakes
Dummies for children who are old enough to talk.
Certain words - especially - Lol, Hubby, Hun.

funnyossity · 21/11/2013 13:30

I believe Barry Manilow is a great artist. Every one in real life thinks I'm being ironic, except my Mum who doesn't do irony and loves Barry too.

2goatytocare · 21/11/2013 13:34

People who compare the love for a pet to the love for a child

youretoastmildred · 21/11/2013 13:34

It is easier to get GCSEs and A levels than it used to be. It is harder work, because you have to do coursework all the time and everyone does a million subjects. But you do not have to be as clever to pass or get As.

Some stuff is better than other stuff: there is such a thing as good art and good food. It is not all a matter of taste. IF you are lazy, or a child, you can have undeveloped tastes. But the stuff you like is just not as good, and not as good for you.

Some things should not be subject to democracy, or the market. Big retailers should be reigned in, in terms of the amount of influence they have on our daily lives. Housing costs and transport costs should be capped. Elections should be managed differently with better direct representation of the people on individual issues, but associated with a form of targeted education and discussion of these issues which you have to prove you took part in to vote.

FreudiansSlipper · 21/11/2013 13:37

Barry Manilow wrote one of the best pop songs ever - Could it be Magic

the original version is very different from Donna Summer's (the best version) and Take That's (their best song)

youretoastmildred · 21/11/2013 13:37

My final one which I don't dare say in real life because the people who do this put a lot of time and effort into doing stuff with children and young people and should be thanked for it, not moaned at: but I HATE HATE HATE when adults make patronising "jokes" about, for instance, that they love food, when working with young people. Every week at Sunday school the Sunday school teachers stand up and say what they did with their class and the ones with the tween / teen groups always belittle them in some way and it is supposed to be so jolly. I HATE it. Give them some respect. I don't stand up and mock you for liking sweets, and I bet you do, judging by the size of you.

DorothyGaleonlsd · 21/11/2013 13:37

My unpopular opinion is that this thread sucks

HoratiaDrelincourt · 21/11/2013 13:38

I love this thread. There's plenty I disagree with, but it's absolutely fascinating, and so eloquently expressed.

DorothyGaleonlsd · 21/11/2013 13:40

Sorry I was a bit abrupt - I mean this thread sucks because some of the opinions are giving me high blood pressure.

(It does have some funny moments)

I was FAR too quick in posting that without explanation!

funnyossity · 21/11/2013 13:42

Just give Barry Manilow a chance Dot!

HoratiaDrelincourt · 21/11/2013 13:42

Fret not, Dorothy, it was a weirdly timed cross post!
