NC (not for this) but I'm long-standing MNer (Pom bear, naice ham...)

This might ruin the whole concept of AIBU but sometimes people pop up with opinions that I am shocked by, not because of what they are but just because they are so marginal. (SPs Cliff Richard obsession, for example?)

So, whilst encouraging you all to go forth and spread your weird and wonderful thoughts all over AIBU and elsewhere, what really unpopular opinions do you hold?

I have a couple of corkers, first one is that Kanye West however much of a knob he is actually is a genius.

Who loves food toast? I'm confused!

Objection · 21/11/2013 13:44

I think that benefits of any kind should cease after 2 children (as in you get benefits for the first two but no more additional benefits after that)

I hate it when people go on to a thread and just talk shite, insult people and generally don't provide anything to the debate.

I think the amount of times people use "lol" is inversely proportional to their intelligence.

People who actually say "lol" or "hashtag ***" are idiots. (eg. "I really love bagels hashtag"obsessed" lol"

float62 · 21/11/2013 13:45

They should make hunting legal again.

CoffeeTea103 · 21/11/2013 13:46

Hoarders are just filthy.

Can only eat a hot meal for supper. Salad, no thanks.

Plastic surgery, it's fake, can't get past that.

Chivetalking · 21/11/2013 13:46

Making special trips out to see churches and/or castles is pointless. Seen one you've seen 'em all.

youretoastmildred · 21/11/2013 13:47

2goaty - I mean when the group of young people has worked really hard on some activity and thought about it and the teacher stands up and goes "well ha ha ha as usual our group's activities had a focus on food" (general laughter) "they did blah blah and then sweets were involved and blah blah" and everyone is sniggering at them as greedy. Well the sweets were involved because the person devising the activity involved them and now you are making everyone laugh at them for doing what you told them to.

I was very very paranoid about being seen to be greedy (because I was hefty by 70s standards) and that would have ruined my day or week when I was 13. Is this over sensitive?

boschy · 21/11/2013 13:48

Fox hunting should be legal; hare coursing should not.

You're definitely right about the carrotsSunshineMMum

TheBigJessie · 21/11/2013 13:54

Home-educating by "learning as you go out of a book with the child" is not half as good for the child as it's cracked up to be by parents rediscovering the joy of education.

If you have no pre-existing issues, such as your child's unsupported SN, or school refusal, etc, send yojr child to school, and sign yourself up for a couple of adult education courses. Stop indulging yourself at the expense of your child.

HoratiaDrelincourt · 21/11/2013 13:54

They definitely taste different in different shapes, and different again whole. Different shapes for different dishes, like pasta.

youretoastmildred · 21/11/2013 13:55

That was a bit specific. Not just about food. I mean give children and young people respect and dignity in public, you think it is friendly to be poking fun at them but I hate it on their behalves and this is the sort of thing that makes them stop coming. teasing isn't friendly except in private by very close people who know you don't mind. And you are all going to tell me I am PO now.

Carrots - definitely, sunshinemum

SoldAtAuction · 21/11/2013 13:56

Toast, has anyone at Sunday School ever complained?

miffybun73 · 21/11/2013 13:59

Just thought of another one. I do not love Robbie Williams and would not choose to go to one of his concerts.

TheOriginalSteamingNit · 21/11/2013 14:00

Most people get far too excited about cake, which in the majority of cases isn't even especially nice.

50shadesofmeh · 21/11/2013 14:01

A lot of people who decide to home school don't have the intelligence or stamina to actually do a good job.

WhatWillSantaBring · 21/11/2013 14:04

I am more likely to vote for the Lib Dems now than I was before they got into power.

Until we find a genuinely viable form of renewable energy, nuclear power IS THE ONLY SOLUTION TO SAVE THE PLANET.

Having children and wearing lycra should be privileges not inalienable human rights.

People judge on appearances. I'm not saying that they should, but they do, so deal with it and dress/groom appropriately.

GeppaGip · 21/11/2013 14:06

Some of these have touched a nerve with me but of all of them, this,

I judge anyone who orders sweet and sour for a Chinese meal or Korma for an Indian. Grow up.

has to be the one that is lowest below the belt.

These are actually the only dishes I like (give or take the odd chow mein or rogan josh with so much natural yoghurt in I've practically turned it into a korma). I can't believe anyone would have a negative opinion of me because of this!! Jesus.

(tongue in cheek - I have been ribbed about this in the past and refuse to order food I don't like to please people who think they're hard for eating chilli). Now that is sad.

youretoastmildred · 21/11/2013 14:08

Sold, I don't know. I don't know the kids of that age group well enough to know how they actually feel about it.
I do know one 16 year old and there is a lot of stuff she doesn't like but would never mention as is very polite and dutiful.

TheOriginal - yes. I would not cross the room for a cake that is not homemade, and then by certain people.

I don't want to talk on the phone for work.I hardly ever want to meet you. I am too busy. Email me and stop trying to confuse me / charm me with your oh so winsome presence. I won't commit to anything in your presence anyway because I know I am easily confused when I am not on my own.

WhatWillSantaBring · 21/11/2013 14:08

Oh, and anyone who whinges about "being made to work till they're 68" should be shot. You are not being made to work, its just a recognition that your pension should not start 20-30 years before you die. And expecting to retire on a final salary pension scheme when you have that much life left in you is a huge betrayal of the next generations.

SPsWouldCatFishNev · 21/11/2013 14:09

The James Blunt one still leaves me flabbergasted

The rest? Nah, everyone can have their own opinion. Just don't try and force it on to me and we're cool Grin

Arabesque1 · 21/11/2013 14:12

Me too Geppa.

musicposy · 21/11/2013 14:14

TheBigJessie you are talking bollocks (though I'm guessing this thread is the place to do it Grin).
Home education is 1000 times better than school. Less stress, more fun, more socialisation (whatever the ignoramuses think), better preparation for the real world and better academic results at the end of it. I have a grown up daughter to prove it, a teen daughter proving it daily and I know many others. I certainly didn't do it for me but it was by far the best thing I ever did for them.
