NC (not for this) but I'm long-standing MNer (Pom bear, naice ham...)

This might ruin the whole concept of AIBU but sometimes people pop up with opinions that I am shocked by, not because of what they are but just because they are so marginal. (SPs Cliff Richard obsession, for example?)

So, whilst encouraging you all to go forth and spread your weird and wonderful thoughts all over AIBU and elsewhere, what really unpopular opinions do you hold?

I have a couple of corkers, first one is that Kanye West however much of a knob he is actually is a genius.

Here here, boschy

HarpyFishwifeTwat · 21/11/2013 09:55

Children answering phones or recording answering machine messages isn't cute - it's just annoying.

I prefer animals to people

I sometimes speed and I don't think it's that bad (in certain circumstances)

LuciusMalfoyisSmokingHot · 21/11/2013 09:55

I love Father Ted, it was the first thing i watched that actually made me understand my irish catholic side of the family.

TeacupDrama · 21/11/2013 09:56

nouns are nouns not verbs ie to medal as opposed to win a medal
I have never ever seen a nice or tasteful tattoo or body piercing ones on the face/ neck are particularly horrendous
football is just a sport it is not that important
reality TV is stupid
there is such a thing as too thin and too fat
you are not a neglectful parent for allowing to 4 year old to use soft play on their own or if you let them take slight risks like climbing etc
you are a bad parent is you let them watch age inappropriate stuff on TV internet etc ( i do not mean an 11.5 watching a 12 film but letting 5-10 year olds watch it) or if you fail to set parental controls on any device that connects to internet
no-one over the age of 11 looks good in leggings as trousers as opposed to using them as thick tights
ugg boots maybe warm but they are ugly
98% of all films are rubbish and a waste of time

50shadesofmeh · 21/11/2013 10:00

People with facial piercings , ridiculous amounts of tattoos stupid hair dos etc are all just massive big attention seekers and it isn't unique or different at all.

Justshabbynochic · 21/11/2013 10:03

My DP and I are the Tim Robbins and Susan Sarandon of our peers...we're always banging on about important causes (latest one being the energy prices) which probably makes half or more of the people we know really irritated by us and go Hmm every time we start.

We're always posting petitions, causes, etc. on FB. But I just think I'd rather care and be seen as annoying than do nothing.

Fleta · 21/11/2013 10:35

That the majority of parents who classify their children as "spirited" refuse to believe they're actually naughty and a bit of discipline wouldn't go amiss.

Arabesque1 · 21/11/2013 10:42

Becoming a parent does not automatically make you 'less selfish' than you were before.
Going out on Saturday nights stinks.
People who dress head to toe in expensive designer gear usually look boring and unimaginative.

Squeakygate · 21/11/2013 10:43

"Keep calm and...." Has been done to death. Lets please move on.
Skinny jeans are not a good look for 90% of the people that wear them.
Ditto leggings (why are they so thin?)
Pets indoors - no way.
James blunt - mmm Blush

DuckToWater · 21/11/2013 10:49

I think my 8 yo daughter in Year 4 would be fine to walk to school/home on her own or with a friend of the same age. There are no roads to cross and it's a ten minute walk. No-one else lets their kids go in on their own until Y5 at least though.

Arabesque1 · 21/11/2013 10:50

Oh, and people who call themselves 'quirky' or 'creative' are usually the exact opposite but just go out of their way to choose quirky or creative clothes/baby names/furniture because it doesn't come naturally to them.

Bubbles1066 · 21/11/2013 10:55

I hate cats too. Horrible bird murdering scum. They are all evil. If you say they are nice, watch them tear a frog to shreds behind your back.
I also don't understand why people eat meat. It's a complete mystery to me. Why would you want to eat decaying flesh? Weird.

I suspect that people who keep curly blond locks on their little boys secretly want a girl.

Ponkin · 21/11/2013 10:57

I also wonder if my previous post about troll hunting would result in the exact opposite outcome for this thread that I was hoping for, so I am going to try to delete it :)

JugglingFromHereToThere · 21/11/2013 11:01

I just thought when I''d got to page 4 that it might be contentious Ponkin what with everyone being asked to post their unpopular opinions.
If it hasn't that's great and credit to everyone on it for that - though hard to get angry with someone for not believing in plate tectonics however much you disagree Grin

monicalewinski · 21/11/2013 11:05

I get the rage when I see children with long scraggy hair that their parents have never ever had trimmed because they "love their little surfer boy/little princesses scruufy rattailed birdsnested looong hair".

Grrrr. Get them to a hairdresser, pronto!

UriGeller · 21/11/2013 11:14

I want Tesco to come and build a superstore near me. There's a nice bit of prime green belt I've earmarked for it.

urtwistingmymelonman · 21/11/2013 11:14

dummys are the spawn of the devil.
and sometimes I post on here because I want an argument and to prove to myself I am right and wouldn't admit I was wrong regardless of how many people told me I was being unreasonable.

MrsBucketxx · 21/11/2013 11:15

I have a few.

I cant abide AP parents they spout crap and try and make others like myself who cc and foster independence in my dc as cruel. I have a life of my own they dont.

Second that for the breastfeeding mafia, ff does not mean poisoning your child.

Teachers arent all that infact they winge and moan, they have no idea of a real workplace as many have only ever done this job, have delusions of grandure. Power mad, when In reality its a job with good pay and pensions.

UriGeller · 21/11/2013 11:16

Bubbles "I hate cats too. Horrible bird murdering scum. They are all evil. If you say they are nice, watch them tear a frog to shreds behind your back"

That'd be a great trick. Grin

MrsBucketxx · 21/11/2013 11:17

Monica my little girl has naturaly fine curky hair and often looks scruffy.

Should I cut it off then, id rather her look girls if some what messy at times.

MrsBucketxx · 21/11/2013 11:17

Girly I meant.

JugglingFromHereToThere · 21/11/2013 11:19

and holidays MrsBucket, don't let's forget that! Shock

Birdsgottafly · 21/11/2013 11:20

I have never seen a young boy with long hair and not thought "ffs, get his hair cut".

If Iceland closed tomorrow my youngest would starve to death, if she wants to eat beige food and never taste spice, then that's her business.

You give a present based on what the recipient wants, if that's cash, then that's what you give and enjoy the fact that they have got what they wanted, because that's what matters. (This is only in contrast to MN posters, though).

You attend an event with a smile on your face, a present (see above) and you join in, or you stay away.

You don't own your children, they are born into a family (barring abuse), Once the baby stage has passed, other family members do matter, get over it.

That's the lighthearted ones, I am keeping away from shaving, tanning, hair dying, knicker liners etc (all of which I do) and I still can call myself a Feminist.
