NC (not for this) but I'm long-standing MNer (Pom bear, naice ham...)

This might ruin the whole concept of AIBU but sometimes people pop up with opinions that I am shocked by, not because of what they are but just because they are so marginal. (SPs Cliff Richard obsession, for example?)

So, whilst encouraging you all to go forth and spread your weird and wonderful thoughts all over AIBU and elsewhere, what really unpopular opinions do you hold?

I have a couple of corkers, first one is that Kanye West however much of a knob he is actually is a genius.

I don't think anyone who lives in a town or city should own dogs. Much as I'm fond of dogs, I'm sick of the walk to school consisting of me repeatedly telling DD to look where she's walking due to all the dog shit that the lazy bastard owners can't be bothered to pick up. Go and live in the countryside next to a field where the dog can crap and it'll disappear rather than leaving piles of it on pavements.

I don't understand how anyone can get any sleep if they let their baby or child sleep in their bed with them. My DC have slept in my bed about three times in their whole lives and I didn't sleep at all worrying about them falling out or getting crushed. It just makes no sense to me.

daisychain01 · 21/11/2013 06:37

New Years eve is pointless

Let's wait up with a load of -boring- stupid idiots getting drunk then dance around hugging each other just because of some arbitrary date. Who cares. Big deal. Go to sleep at 8 pm, wake up next day. Job done.

Agree NYE is over hyped, over priced bollocks.

Miranda is the most unfunny thing on TV and I just cannot understand how it's won any awards.

I have no idea why someone who doesn't have kids and never wants kids would be on a parenting site. Pre kids and want but can't maybe but if I want a chat about DIY I go on a DIY forum. If I want to chat about kids I go on a parenting forum.

Cliff is creepy in a Peter Pan melted face kind of way sorry SPs but I can't unsee those links

picnicbasketcase · 21/11/2013 07:01

I haven't read the entire thread so this may have already been said but any musical written by taking the songs of a band and constructing a tenuous storyline vaguely linking the songs up is a pile of bollocks and anyone paying good money to see it is a tit. I don't care if it's the music of Abba, Queen, the Spice Girls, Level 42, whoever, it's lazy shit.

TheCountessOlenska · 21/11/2013 07:04

This didn't kick off then Grin
picnicbasket I so agree with you about dogs but NOT about having lovely squashy babies in your bed - I find it hard to sleep without one now, he is actually supposed to be in his cot but it's just easier when he ends up in mine... and yes he has fallen out on occasion Shock Wink

GinnelsandWhippets · 21/11/2013 07:27

I hate eating 'al fresco' in the uk. Fecking wasps everywhere and it's always too hot or not quite warm enough. On holiday in warm country with a real outdoor dining setup, lovely. A cafe table on a traffic-fume ridden London street, shite. Ditto a British park full of nosy dogs and stinging insects crawling all over your food. No I don't want to have a bloody picnic.

middleclassdystopia · 21/11/2013 07:33

It's okay to cut off your mother if she makes you miserable.

There's too much societal taboo surrounding awful or abusive mothers.

GinnelsandWhippets · 21/11/2013 07:34

Oh and I hate troll hunting and passive aggressive suspicion directed at people on forums. If you don't like the thread, leave. If you think the poster is a troll, report the thread. If you think someone's made a personal attack or is bullying, report the post(s). Don't witter on about 'hairy hands' and 'oh, this is your first time posting OP, hmmm?' and then wail about how Mumsnet has changed and is now full of idiots. Gah.

KittensoftPuppydog · 21/11/2013 07:39

There's nothing wrong with being middle class.

middleclassdystopia · 21/11/2013 07:42

Better change my name to MiddleClassUtopia KittensoftPuppydog Grin

fairnotfair · 21/11/2013 07:48

Fancy dress (particularly for adults) is lame.

The Beatles are overrated.

Bananas should be banned.

I'm not particularly interested in meeting new people.

Dolphins are just sharks in drag.

LuciusMalfoyisSmokingHot · 21/11/2013 07:49

I like having my bedroom window open, even in mid winter.

I sleep naked all year round.

LittleAprilShowers · 21/11/2013 07:49

Ooh just thought of another one that may get me banished from MN forever more....

I don't think childbirth is the most painful thing ever. Honestly I had an abscess in my gums once and had to wait a day for a dentist, I felt like cutting my mouth off it was that painful, give me labour over that any day!

Mumzy · 21/11/2013 07:50

I think we should have a contributory welfare state
A lot of nurses are not "angels"
All parents should be made to go on a parenting course before they have access to child benefit/ schools to make them aware of their responsibities
Schools should concentrate on teaching 3 Rs and not be pseudo parents

Gileswithachainsaw · 21/11/2013 07:54

Justin bieber should be sent to the moon and left there closely followed by justin fletcher.

Stabbing should be made legal in the cases of dps being home and driving you crazy :o

Geckos48 · 21/11/2013 07:57

Oh most of them :P

JazzAnnNonMouse · 21/11/2013 08:01

Chavs exist.
Bedroom tax should apply to oaps too.
Oap benefits such as winter fuel allowance should be means tested.
A living wage should be implemented.
Workfare should be used to help local projects/charities/volunteering positions not line the pockets of major corporations with free labour.
No one should be homeless.
People who own empty/derelict homes should be fined massively.
Drugs should be legalised and monitered.
Canabis/hemp should be used more - it has fantastic qualities and grows much faster than trees e.g for making paper.
Mps who fiddle expenses should be tried as anyone else who defrauds.
Mps should be paid the average wage.
Mps should have had at least one job before becoming an mp.
Our voting system should be changed.
We should have more referendums.
The current number 1 is crap.

Thants · 21/11/2013 08:02

I think we should have a maximum wage and anything over should be 100% taxed.
That no one should own a second home.
That ideally all housing should be council housing.
I don't think I could date a person that ate meat.
That the majority of people are sexist, racist and homophobic and it saddens me greatly.

PresidentServalan · 21/11/2013 08:10

FreeWee I am on here despite being child free because this site isn't just about parenting. I don't go onto many of the topics but hang around mainly on Chat and AIBU and the Litter Tray.

A lot of posters have intelligent, interesting and sometimes very funny, I have learned a great deal from the site - you don't have to have a child to appreciate that!

MoominsYonisAreScary · 21/11/2013 08:13

I HATE breastfeeding, I didn't even try to bf ds1 and I was much happier for it. The only reason I am still bf ds4 at almost 10 months is because he wont take a bottle/cup and if he would take a dummy id give him one of those too.

PresidentServalan · 21/11/2013 08:20

Actually I can't think of a website that covers just about every topic under the planet like this one !

WooWooOwl · 21/11/2013 08:28

I think posters that bang on about spreadsheets and shitlists, or worse, bingo and goats, have a very misplaced sense of self importance and I'm highly likely to judge them as being thick and/or self serving.

I think there should be more grammar schools.

I think that most teachers who disagree with homework take that stance because they don't want to do the extra work planning it and marking it.

I agree with fines for term time holidays.

50shadesofmeh · 21/11/2013 08:32

That low earners shouldn't have their wages ' topped up' with tax credits, there should be some reward for having worked to get a better paying job

killpeppa · 21/11/2013 08:33

I love kebab.
I dont drink out of choice.
I smoke after the kids go to bed.
Divorce should be easier.
I couldnt give a shit about politics.
I call santa, santa, and not father christmas.
I think I can sing but I dont have a sob story for xfactor.
