I like black pudding, never had white- what's it made of?

squeakytoy · 19/11/2013 14:27

I am originally from bury and they do make the best black pudding there! Without a doubt.

Morrisons sell white pudding almost everywhere, and so do budgens.

BlingBang · 19/11/2013 14:34

now some haggis, neeps and tatties ... with some black pudding on the side!

Ticktock80 · 19/11/2013 14:39

You get white pudding where I live! Ramseys black pudding is fab too. I agree that the big fat bits in some puddings are gross. Yeuck.

Gracelo · 19/11/2013 14:45

I love black pudding and haggis, never had white pudding.
We do something similar to black pudding in my part of Germany and I had a Sardinian version of black pudding once that included raisins.
We also do a liver sausage that gets fried in a pan that is not unlike haggis. dp thinks its all utterly disgusting.

Gatekeeper · 19/11/2013 14:50

paulagil my dh says that every time we eat black pudding Grin I loved that series

Gatekeeper · 19/11/2013 14:51

white pudding aka mealy pudden is made with oatmeal I think..

Wallison · 19/11/2013 14:52

Whatever white pudding is made of, it is made of stuff that sticks to your ribs. Glad to see other haggis fans on here.

squoosh · 19/11/2013 14:52

White pudding is black pudding minus the blood and with extra spice.

sussexmum38 · 19/11/2013 14:56

Got to be from Bury market. Boiled with Ketchum and mustard.

Weegiemum · 19/11/2013 15:16

It's got to be Charlie Barley's black pudding from Stornoway.
(More officially, Charles Macleod!)

Available by mail order, too! Here

at Stornoway being lovely, though! The Outer Hebrides are lovely. Stornoway is most definitely not the jewel in it's crown! (Lived there for 15 months, worked there for longer!)

Love it

iklFaceOfBooe · 19/11/2013 19:33

Not a fan of haggis but love black pudding. Especially with scallops.

Thants · 19/11/2013 19:34

Yabu it is foul. The idea of if makes me feel sick.

OvO · 19/11/2013 19:36

White pudding supper from the chippy. Drowned in brown sauce.

BsshBossh · 19/11/2013 20:15

I love it too. We make a delicious morcilla and broad bean stew from the Moro cookbook. I love Brindisa for buying morcilla. The other day I had a sublime and hearty brunch at a local cafe of thick slices of black pudding stacked on scrambled eggs with wild mushrooms, grilled tomatoes and hot buttered toast. Might make a repeat order this Friday.

Lizzylou · 19/11/2013 20:19

Bssh, you want to come up here, nearly every Gastropub nearby has Bury Blackpudding in some form or other on the menu as a starter.

I like it better hot in the bag off Bury market. Lean only. No black peas. Or sauce.

DisgraceToTheYChromosome · 19/11/2013 20:34

warm pigeon breast with black pudding and hazelnut fried and crumbled into salad leaves with a raspberry viniagrette

Oh. My. God.

swoons

BsshBossh · 19/11/2013 20:34

Lizzy I'm salivating at the thought :)

HumphreyCobbler · 19/11/2013 20:37

We made black pudding after raising and butchering our first set of pigs.

I had to leave a little gap between the making and the eating Grin

Pig's blood raw is rather a surprisingly bright pink.

MrsDavidBowie · 19/11/2013 20:38

I love Black Pudding.
It was a Friday night tea in our house (Leeds in the sixties)...black pudding and HP sauce, polony and cheese and onion crisp and cress sandwiches.
And Crackerjack.

I hate it when you get it in a full breakfast and it appears as bits of burnt charcoal.

ohtanmybum · 19/11/2013 20:42

Hmm, I've seen it being made (used to work in sausage factory), so no thanks.

JellicleCat · 19/11/2013 21:34

Haggis, black pudding (definitely Stornoway), white pudding yum. Never been too keen on red pudding though.

And no brown sauce - that's yuck.

forloveofgod33 · 03/12/2019 17:50

Would you eat blood? When the scripture clearly states:-
“that you abstain from what has been sacrificed to idols and from blood and from what has been strangled and from fornication."
