I've never tried Kanturk pudding, it it widely available or would I need to brave the wild's of Cork to get to it?

OvO · 19/11/2013 13:33

Mmm, love it. On a morning roll with some brown sauce. I want some now but have none.

Millenniumbug1 · 19/11/2013 13:33

In a bread roll with mustard, 'twas lovely!

Oh that's not fair, I'm in Oz and the so called Scottish black pudding is bogging.Sad

stinkingbishop · 19/11/2013 13:36

Bury!!!!

I bloomin' loves it. Couldn't decide between kippers and a full English at a hotel the other day, and realised the only things drawing me to the full English were the eggs and black pudding and tomato. So had that...with a kipper! Best Breakfast Ever.

Also made a starter the other day of warm pigeon breast with black pudding and hazelnut fried and crumbled into salad leaves with a raspberry viniagrette. This was the nicest thing I have ever made.

Just call me stinkingbishop roux jr.

Thanks Gobby, I might see if I can get some from Waitrose!

WorraLiberty · 19/11/2013 13:40

White pudding is also nice but they don't seem to eat it in the UK as far as I can tell.

Oooh I certainly do...and black pudding too Grin

There's a lovely meat van on Romford market (Essex) that sells links of black and white pudding.

KissesBreakingWave · 19/11/2013 13:43

No, BunnyLebowski, no. The land of my forefathers does many things most excellently well, but Lancashire has the whole nation beat into a hollow pipe for black pudden. Bury's in particular.

squoosh · 19/11/2013 13:54

I've heard of Bury black pudding but have never tried it. Always keen to expand my pudding palate so must seek it out. They told me in Scotland that Stornoway bp was the best in the world, they were wrong. Another good bp I've just remembered is Sneem's.

Rabbitpies · 19/11/2013 13:59

I love black pudding. It has to have the right texture though, and a good bit of spice. Black pudding with the cubes of fat in it is horrid. Is that Bury black pudding?

BlingBang · 19/11/2013 14:00

Love it - like the idea of t on soda bread with poached egg and bacon - yum!

Tailtwister · 19/11/2013 14:01

YANBU, it's gorgeous! I've seen white pudding for sale in Scotland squoosh.

Rabbitpies · 19/11/2013 14:02

I was just at the butchers. Why didn't I get any? Sad

Lorne sausage with a black pudding centre is amazing.

LucySnoweShouldRelax · 19/11/2013 14:05

I haven't seen Kanturk here (in London) I get it in Dublin at Fallon & Byrne (I know they're rip-off merchants, I know. But such delicious rip-off merchants)

Lizzylou · 19/11/2013 14:06

Bury black pudding is lush, you can choose to have it fatty if you like.
DH would divorce me if I didn't say that.

Had white pudding in Ireland, was lush, never had it since.

StuckOnARollercoaster · 19/11/2013 14:07

A trip to bury market is not complete without some hot black pudding and mustard, with or without black peas!

notapizzaeater · 19/11/2013 14:08

Why do people cook, the stuff ? I love black pudding cold, straight from packet - yummy cos I'm from South Yorkshire and that's what they do there.

Of course I will "force" myself to eat it cooked BlushAngryBlushAngry

squoosh · 19/11/2013 14:09

I'll pop into Fallon & Byrne when I'm home at Christmas and give Kanturk a whirl.

gaggiagirl · 19/11/2013 14:13

I had 2 slices last week. I baked it in the oven for ages and it went so crisp it was like a biscuit. It was the yummiest thing of all time ever.

paulagil · 19/11/2013 14:15

YANBU but you are being VVVVBVVVVVVVVVVVVVVU for raiding the subject when I've just been to the supermarket. God, I love the stuff. But only black pudding. White Pudding is meh.

paulagil · 19/11/2013 14:17

Did anyone watch Michael Palin's Ripping Yarns as a kid? "Black Pudding's very black today, Mother. Even the white bits are black."

Wallison · 19/11/2013 14:19

Black pudding is very yummy indeed. Plus low fat, so practically a health food. White pudding on the other hand is not a health food but also fab. But the greatest of this Holy Trinity is haggis.

squoosh · 19/11/2013 14:21

I'm ambivalent toward haggis I have to say.

Lizzylou · 19/11/2013 14:23

I bloody love haggis too.
