Pre-chopped onions. In a bag. Am I alone in this?

I am prepared to be told that this is my own dirty little secret but still. Pre-chopped onions. Who would not buy?

Still pretty good value. I hate skinning the buggers and chopping them makes me cry. Pre-chopped onions are the way forward!

Bike I tried a frozen jacket spud last week - they were £1 for 2 in Iceland and I really fancied a 'big' filling meal. Anyway, the skin is very very thin i.e. as if the spud has been scrubbed to within an inch of it's life. That said, the actual potato inside was, well pretty damn good and as close to 'oven baked' as you'll get. I was genuinely surprised.

Whilst I'll happily fill my freezer with diced frozen onions, peppers, mushrooms etc, I never thought I'd recommend a frozen jacket spud.

I love chopped frozen onions and mushrooms. We just wasted them when we bought fresh, even with meal planning. Sainsburys often do 2 bags for £2.50.

I have now moved to frozen blueberries which defrost in my porridge as I cook it in the microwave. Result. Smile

Love chopped/frozen onions, do much so that I fret a bit if there isn't a bag in the freezer Grin. Also the frozen garlic cubes although our local Tesco seems to have stopped stocking them.

Bikerunski I had the frozen jacket spuds last week for the first time and thought they were very nice Grin I dished them up with a casserole (a pre-prepared one from Asda that you just bung in the oven, also lovely!) made a good meal.

I personally find pre-prepared butternut squash tastes a bit odd - not sure what the problem is there. Going to try Brandnewmamma's tip as I love butternut but find peeling it a complete pita! Same for swede.

I have frozen chopped onions in the freezer but don't use them every time.

I don't like frozen chopped peppers as they always seem to be about 80% green ones and I prefer red and yellow.

Love frozen chopped onions. And yes, they sell them in Tesco for £1 a bag. Next to the somewhat disappointing frozen sliced peppers.

I do not buy. I chop my own and freeze them for nights when I'm in a hurry, and chop fresh ones when I have more time.

Look, they are chopped onions in a bag. The only difference between these and their skinned cousins is that I have not had to peel and chop them. This sounds like a winner to me.

Onions
Garlic
Mushrooms
Mashed potato.

All frozen and much loved by me when I get in from work and cook tea.

Brilliant, taste good and quick

What's not to love?

I remember a thread like this last year, it got nasty Grin

Am I the only one that doesn't have watery eyes when peeling and chopping onions.

I do my own pickled onions and peel around 5 bags of onions and not a single tear.

I do buy pre chopped onions and other veggies as it's time saving especially during week days.

I love using these as I hate chopping onions. I can't chop them without becoming a snivelling mess!

I buy dried onions in a packet as they make great casseroles and soups, no watery sweating and a very concentrated flavour. I have five packets in my larder for when I run out of fresh onions. They contain about three onions for about 25p from Tescos. I also love dried mushrooms for the same reason.

Call me if there is zombie attack. I am sorted with long life products. Wink

Rubyflipper re: beetroot - would the cooked, peeled long-life stuff in vacuum packaging, that seem to be mostly next to the cucumbers, be any good for you?

You can buy frozen chopped onions??!!!! That would be AWESOME.....but I am a regular in the frozen veggie aisle and have never come across them. I will double triple check next time [hopeful]

Do you wear contact lenses fortydoors? I cry like anything normally when chopping onions, but not at all when I am wearing my lenses.

Question: The poster who mentioned throwing a whole butternut squash in the oven uncut....do you still have to put it in a bin with some water?

I actually buy bags of the cheap, misshapen onions, and chop them to freeze. It works out fine for me. I do, however, wear those disposable gloves, as I hate the smell lingering on my skin.

Frozen chopped onion
Frozen chopped garlic in little cubes (one cube = one clove)
Frozen chopped ginger in little cubes

All are fabulous. Saves so much time when I get in from work and want to get dinner on the go quickly and a lot less faff.
