was this woman bu to complain about my husband?

My husband drives a van for work. Driving to work in the morning traffic and the car in front of him slowed down as the car in front of her was turning off left, the woman then waited to let another car pull out of the junction.

My husband beeped his horn at her and shook his head when she looked in her mirror at him.

When he got into work, later on that day the company had received a complaint about him - the woman had noted his licence plate and company name and sent them an email.

He now has a mark on his employment record.

I am a little concerned STD that you are still deciding that the op's dh has done something more than has been outlined!

I hope I never end up in court for something I haven't done with you on the jury!

SoupDragon · 16/11/2013 18:17

I hope I never end up in court for something I haven't done with you on the jury!

Generally speaking you get both sides of the story in court.

SoupDragon · 16/11/2013 18:18

I'm not sure I've ever seen someone simply beep their horn and shake their head. 99% of the time there is some shouting, mouthing, possibly foul language and gesticulating.

SoupDragon · 16/11/2013 18:22

It reads to me like slowing down lady might not have anticipated the car in front turning left. Therefore near enough stopped and then paused more to allow emerging car to pass.

It reads to me that the slowing down lady slowed down with the flow of traffic when the car in front turned and then let the other car out. No lack of anticipation at all. However, it sounds like the van driver was an aggressive arse whatever the scenario.

bzoo · 16/11/2013 18:23

Btw. It's Bzoo Smile

Do we know this occurred in London?

bzoo · 16/11/2013 18:24

Sorry just reread. There's quite a few clearways here and I'm nowhere near London

DejaVuAllOverAgain · 16/11/2013 18:25

OP Your DH WBVU.

It's all very well saying the woman over reacted but the OP's DH could very well have been the nth driver to have behaved like an arse to the woman in the last few days, the straw that broke the camel's back so to speak. Besides the 'white van man' has a reputation for behaving like a wanker on the roads and if no one ever reports then nothing will ever be done.

When it comes down to it if the OP's DH hadn't behaved the way he did there would have been nothing to report. He only has himself to blame.

jonicomelately · 16/11/2013 18:27

Your husband is an aggressive road user who makes the lives of other drivers a misery. He needs to learn some manners. I hope he gets a massive bollocking for bringing his company into disrepute.

VerySmallSqueak · 16/11/2013 18:28

True Soup.

But some posters seem intent on adding embellishments. And it doesn't make for a very fair hearing if one person's story is disbelieved without basis.

It's assumption that the op's dh must have done more than we have been told if the woman is to be believed. There is another possibility - that she overreacted in calling the company for a very minor incident.

VerySmallSqueak · 16/11/2013 18:30

Massive generalization alert:

'Besides the"white van man" has a reputation for behaving like a wanker on the roads....'

Of course,silly me.
Anyone driving a white van is guilty until proven innocent just because their firm happens to use white vans in their fleet......Hmm

VerySmallSqueak · 16/11/2013 18:32

Deja it could be that the woman was the nth driver to slow the flow of traffic in front of the op's dh in the last few days, and it was the last straw for him,so he reacted out of frustration rather than anything more sinister.

DrHolmes · 16/11/2013 18:36

Bzoo- to answer your question - I regularly have to stop when people turn left along roads I drive to and from work. Country roads. I do it prob about 4 times each journey!!!!!! If i see someone also coming out of that road i'd prob let them join my road seeing as I am stopped anyway. And if the person tooted and was shaking their head behind I really would think they are an arrogant prick. No need for it.

The fact is he did not need to toot or shake his head or get angry or anything else. He simly had wait probably 10 seconds and then go again. Big deal. If aperson gets angry at that then they have ishooos.

BettyBotter · 16/11/2013 18:39

Well done complainy woman.

DejaVuAllOverAgain · 16/11/2013 18:43

I don't personally believe that every white van driver is a wanker but wvm does have a reputation whether it is deserved or not. It could be that reputation that led the woman, rightly or wrongly, to report the OP's DH.

The fact remains that the OP's DH is in control of his own behaviour and in this case his behaviour got him reported. He only has himself to blame for that.

I don't drive btw so I have no axe to grind with any driver of any type.

Ubik1 · 16/11/2013 18:46

In Glasgow there's a van with a sign

SoupDragon · 16/11/2013 18:48

It could be that reputation that led the woman, rightly or wrongly, to report the OP's DH.

Or it could simply be that he behaved like an arse when hooting.

Ubik1 · 16/11/2013 18:48

Try again...

In Glasgow there's a van with a sign on the back which says:

" How's my driving? Shite? Phone xxxxx"

Mylovelyboy · 16/11/2013 18:49

I thought everyone on here HATED stereotyping. Its seems by some that the 'white van man' is a total villan. Stereotyping in the highest form. Double standards by most. But not all.

SoupDragon · 16/11/2013 18:49

The person pulling out the junction was quite hesitant and he was beeping his horn to get her to hurry up as she was going to hold up traffic behind her

This makes no sense. The person pulling out was turning right (apparently) so the only traffic she would be holding up behind her would be traffic in the side road. Not the van driver.

MinesAPintOfTea · 16/11/2013 18:49

VerySmall if the dh can't control his temper on the road he shouldn't be there. Even if he just pulls into a car park for two minutes and takes some deep breaths. The total time list week have been less than 10 seconds before he made all parties feel more harassed.

SoupDragon · 16/11/2013 18:50

Personally, I'd think he was behaving like an arse whether he was in a van, a BMW or a Nissan Micra*.

*other cars are available.

MinesAPintOfTea · 16/11/2013 18:51

Bzoo i'm surprised, I have only encountered proper Clearways in London. Either way, i'm sure the op would have mentioned it if it was Tyre case.

Ubik1 · 16/11/2013 18:53

Lots if people drive like twats I don't think I would phone someone's employer though

MalcolmTuckersMistress · 16/11/2013 18:57

I'm glad your husband has a black mark against him. Far too many idiot
Drivers like that on the roads who intimidate others and causing accidents. What an arse he is.

mercibucket · 16/11/2013 18:57

swnbu
