To think if it's ok to use "Wendy" to describe bullying women

Then we should come up with names for other characteristics including physical in people too?

Eg. Fat Women - Lisa's
Fat Men - Stephens
Men who hit women - Toms
Women who hit men - Emma's
Nasty male bosses - Gordon's
Nasty Female bosses - Gemma's
Shirty impatient teachers - Mary's
People who shoplift - Leslie/Lesley's

Do you see what I am saying? Because quite frankly I am sick to the back teeth of seeing posters whining about being "Wendied". It's hurtful and insulting to people with that name. I love someone dearly with the name Wendy and whenever I see her name used like that on here it makes me so Angry.

Why is it ok to take someone's name, the most fundamental thing about a person and use it as a Noun to describe really awful, spiteful, manipulative people. Truthfully would you be fine seeing it if it was YOUR name or your child's name?

What an odd thing to be bothered about honestly. Wouldn't care in the least if it were my name

SaucyJack · 15/11/2013 19:12

YABU. It's from a Judy Blume book.

olaybiscuitbarrel · 15/11/2013 19:17

I agree with you sparkly.

I find it very offensive.

HaroldTheGoat · 15/11/2013 19:21

It's used on mumsnet where everyone is under a false name. So I really wouldn't be taking it personally if it was my name.

People have worse name problems. Came across someone through work the other week called Richard head. Sad

headinhands · 15/11/2013 19:26

Worral :D

sparklysilversequins · 15/11/2013 19:26

anchoress only I can possibly know what I was thinking when I wrote my OP and thank you for calling at an interesting point. That's exactly what I thought when I wrote it.

iPhone changed them lottie but thanks so much for your useful contribution.

OP posts:
lottiegarbanzo · 15/11/2013 19:41

That's ok. It is characteristic. I thought you wanted to label them all with names. I didn't say it was a bad thing. You must have read that into my post...

Artus · 15/11/2013 19:42

Oh dear. I have obviously lost my grip too. And am irrational and not sane. Thank you.

Wendy

sparklysilversequins · 15/11/2013 19:47

Where did I say it was a bad thing? Confused

YouStayClassySanDiego · 15/11/2013 19:48

I remember another poster starting a thread along these lines a few months back.

Suggestions to replace 'being wendied' were:

Being mean girled.
Shes a Regina George.

There were a few more but all swatted away by posters objecting to those names suggested as an alternative.

sparklysilversequins · 15/11/2013 19:53

Yes they do seem to want to hang onto Wendy don't they? I wonder why that it is? They obviously feel that the name fits a nasty bitch person don't they, oh wait......

OP posts:
YouStayClassySanDiego · 15/11/2013 20:01

For me 'being a right Bitch' conveys the feeling of being bullied and frozen out.

It gets to the heart of the matte there and then.

ErrorError · 15/11/2013 20:02

Wendy Wedger
Peeping Tom
Bloody Nora
Moaning Minnie
Sweaty Betty
Billy-No-Mates
Desperate Dan
Dennis the Menace

I feel a bit bad for them all really!

sparklysilversequins · 15/11/2013 20:08

When I think of the furore on the baby names forum and the desperate avoidance of possible nicknames that might cause a child to be teased or bullied it does seem strange to me that people on here insist that it's harmless and doesn't mean anything. There have been several Wendys on this thread who have said they don't like it so its obviously not harmless to them is it?

OP posts:
ADishBestEatenCold · 15/11/2013 20:11

I don't view fat people negatively. It's just on a list. But you lot obviously do

Really sparklysilversequins, really? If I recall correctly, it wasn't "you lot" who grouped fat men and women in with violent abusers and shop lifters .... it was you!

You continue to leave me Shock and for me, that continues to completely overshadow any validity your opinions may or may not have had.

sparklysilversequins · 15/11/2013 20:14

Read my other posts adish I am not explaining again.

OP posts:
Oblomov · 15/11/2013 20:17

I don't like it. If I was actually called Wendy, I would like it even less.
