To think that this model looks awful and quite unwell?

www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-2507013/Victorias-Secret-Fashion-Show-afterparty-Sean-Avery-toasts-fiancee-Hilary-Rhodas-success.html

Got to say that it surprised me, Victoria Secrets models usually carry a bit more weight compared to the the emaciated girls we see doing the high fashion stuff.

She's so, so painfully thin. Her face is drawn and she looks older than her years.

When is the modelling world going to start using healthy looking girls who don't look like famine victims? This is not what people want to look at!

OP you told prettytoes that she was arrogant and full of herself, and that she loves herself (as if that is somehow a bad thing?!) after she explained that works hard at maintaining a healthy body and is naturally on the slimmer side. I think she's allowed to be a bit defensive when you were so rude.

Bramshott · 14/11/2013 14:15

Actually I don't think she looks unwell, although clearly modelling is a dysfunctional industry, and some models are pressurized to be far too thin.

What is awful is that the article seems to be a thinly-disguised opportunity to print close-up photos of a woman in her pants...

5madthings · 14/11/2013 14:15

Yes that counts...I ahev been running and done the odd exercise DVD maybe twice buy I walk loads, oh I have been on the trampoline a few times as well lying on it whilst the toddler jumps about counts as exercise yes

SoldAtAuction · 14/11/2013 14:15

Angry my dd looks like that naturally. she is just under six foot two, 130 lbs. She is not sick, or poorly. She eats well.
Why can't people accept bodies come in all sizes, and quit with the shaming!

HopAlongOnItsOnlyChristmas · 14/11/2013 14:16

Doing anything with a toddler counts as exercise.

BettySwollocksandaCrustyRack · 14/11/2013 14:17

HopAlong - it's ok to be rude as long as you put with respect before your insult Hmm

CiderBomb · 14/11/2013 14:17

Actually hop along if you read the thread back she accused me of "talking shit" before I informed her that she was arrogant.

If she thinks I'm taking "shit" then that is fine. But it shows a distinct lack of manners and respect. Surely there are better way to articulate it than that?

lubeybooby · 14/11/2013 14:18

I don't think she looks unhealthy, but she's very wrinkly round the mouth/cheeks for 26. She looks the same age as and reminds me of Courtney Cox.

She's stunning though so doubt she cares and fuck knows why I'm even posting this.

HopAlongOnItsOnlyChristmas · 14/11/2013 14:18

I'll have to remember that betty

Cider starting a thread to purely judge the appearance of another woman... that is kinda talking shit, actually.

Objection · 14/11/2013 14:19

She is very pretty in her face but I see nothing attractive about her body. She is too thin, IMHO and her body shape isn't natural - it is the work of a lot of exercise and a limited diet.

Women naturally have padding on their stomach (regardless of whether they are naturally non-curvy).

YANBU OP and I think it says a lot about our society that most people idolise that kind of body shape.

If it is "normal" for some people to be that thin then it is the extreme minority. I personally know no one with that body shape.

HaroldTheGoat · 14/11/2013 14:20

She looks fine to me. I used to be a 6/8 during my teens to twenties and u didn't exercise and ate a lot of rubbish food. Obviously I wasn't that toned but I got a bit sick of getting snarky comments.

elskovs · 14/11/2013 14:20

I think she looks great. Unwell? Not at all

Its just that these days there are so many fatties around that the normal sized women look abnormal.

Im sure teenagers with a brain will realise that not everyone has the same genetic make up and therefore will not look identical.

bonkersLFDT20 · 14/11/2013 14:21

I think she is naturally very slim and also does masses of exercise (weights and stuff) to get her muscle tone. I was expecting to see some gaunt waif floating away, but she's not like that at all. Usually you don't see such great muscle tone on one so thin.

LuciusMalfoyisSmokingHot · 14/11/2013 14:21

Being healthy depends on different things, an extra 10 pounds on a tall person might not make a difference, but it could on a much smaller person,

Some women might have a big bum but have a small waistline and not be overweight, the woman doesnt have much body fat but shes toned and looks great with it, my sister is slim but has saggy skin that gives her a little podge, we are all different in our bodies, so a size 6 or a 16 can be equally healthy.

5madthings · 14/11/2013 14:23

Anything with a toddler counts as exercise you say...well I sleep with her every night so wahey there's 7\8hrs of exercise a day...now why am I not toned as fuck?! Grin anyway I have a plan once she starts pre school in jan I cja go running after dropping her off as well as going swimming.

Seriously op, maybe pretty toes wasn't very tactful but when you make sweeping state!ents about someone with a certain body type you are going to piss people off, and yes they will be defensive and so rude. pretty toesclearly works hard and looks after herself, so ethign we should all aspire to do. Yet you mocked her and said she loved herself like that was a bad thing. We should all love ourselves and of I had the motivation pretty toes does then yes I would be smug as fuck actually. Imo people like that are inspiring, well done pretty toes and I hope you stay in good health xx

CiderBomb · 14/11/2013 14:24

elskovs, so anyone bigger than this woman is not normal and a "fattie" is that what you are saying?

OP posts:
Poppylovescheese · 14/11/2013 14:24

I think she looks great. I have recently lost nearly three stone and my BMI is around 21 now and again so many people keep telling me not to lose anymore. I actually intend to lose another stone) I am 5ft 4 and 9.5 stone but look my best at 8.5 as I have a very small build. I agree with those who say it is because we are accustomed to people being overweight.

lljkk · 14/11/2013 14:26

She looks bonny to me. Skinny (by which I mean underweight), but bonny. I won't show DH, he would just declare "No tits!".

I wouldn't want to buy any of the items she's modelling. They wouldn't fit because I have a different kind of figure. Even if she were 10 kg heavy we'd have different builds, I think. I wonder who does like to buy this kind of stuff that only fits well if you are so thin? Seems to me Princess Cambridge had the right figure. Few do. I gave up clothes shopping years ago. The models are sticks, the ordinary people are apples.

I think my BMI is around 20 with broad shoulders. I need models with a figure like Sophia Loren or Marilyn Monroe. Wish we could bring 1950s-60s figures back to the norm when lots of clothes were made for people like that. I suppose the sticks & apples suffered.

DuckToWater · 14/11/2013 14:27

Great muscle tone but at least 10lbs underweight I'd say. In fact she still wouldn't be overweight if she put 30lbs on.

Doesn't eat much and obsessive gym goer. Not a look or lifestyle I'd aspire to. Not the least because being that thin in the next 5 years her face will age 20.

elskovs · 14/11/2013 14:28

Course not!

But if the national average is size 16, then a size 8 is going to look very small.

Lots of people are overweight these days. Its not healthy

Tailtwister · 14/11/2013 14:29

I think she looks ok. I imagine she's just naturally think anyway.

DontmindifIdo · 14/11/2013 14:31

IMHO and her body shape isn't natural - it is the work of a lot of exercise and a limited diet. - define natural? Do you think that a blobby body due to an unlimited diet and lack of exercise is more natural? Is thinness only considered natural if you massively overeat, do fuck all and still are thin? Like the numbers of stuff about fat woman who might do a lot of exercise, eat less than 1000cals a day and still are fat. Yes, there are a few like that, but most woman have the bodyshape they chose in relation to it's toned levels and amount of fat on it. Now, there's nothing I could do to give me her length of legs (mine are tiny) or those cheekbones, but the level of body fat and muscles are things in our control.

Booboostoo · 14/11/2013 14:31

I looked like similar (loads shorter though!) pre pregnancy and bf. I had a BMI of 17.5 all my life, with no eating disorders, an insane eating schedule (I eat every couple of hours and devour cakes, chocolates, etc.) and a lot of muscle from riding every day two horses and mucking out. If anything happened, like a stomach bug, I would lose 2-3 kilos in a week and it would show terribly on my face.

I didn't have a problem with my body then and I don't have a problem with my body now (much curvier and rounder, I think because of bf). People are different. My mum and brother are the same as me, we all have an insane metabolism, whereas poor DP is overweight even though he eats less than me quantity wise and in terms of chocolatey crap. DP has to look at food and puts on weight, I have to eat constantly to stay the same weight.

You have not met enough people OP.

LondonNinja · 14/11/2013 14:31

Bloody hell. Poor woman.

It really is awful that it's OK to make such judgements on someone on the thin side of the spectrum but if the equivalent comments about wrinkles, health and attractiveness were made on a larger person, they'd be flamed.

Slim obviously means you're ripe for insults on MN!

SootikinAndSweep · 14/11/2013 14:32

Surely it's her job to be lean and toned, in the way that it's an athlete's job to be lean and toned?

I'd be delighted to look like that, but I'm too lazy and eat too much unhealthy food.
