Got to say that it surprised me, Victoria Secrets models usually carry a bit more weight compared to the the emaciated girls we see doing the high fashion stuff.

She's so, so painfully thin. Her face is drawn and she looks older than her years.

When is the modelling world going to start using healthy looking girls who don't look like famine victims? This is not what people want to look at!

OP posts:
docket · 14/11/2013 13:40

I get told I'm too thin all the time too Betty. Pisses me right off, it's bloody rude

ouryve · 14/11/2013 13:41

She probably is a little underweight, but does have good muscle tone (I slightly envy that six pack, but not the work it probably takes to achieve it!) I suspect she works out a lot, as her hands are quite veiny, but don't have the tell tale sunken look where you can see all the individual wrist bones.

WhosLookingAfterCourtney · 14/11/2013 13:41

Stop body shaming Yabu.

kiriwAnyFuckerwa · 14/11/2013 13:41

It's well-known that Victoria's Secret models starve themselves before shows and they have been roundly criticised for extreme photoshopping in their catalogues. I don't know this woman but she looks underweight for an adult woman

HopAlongOnItsOnlyChristmas · 14/11/2013 13:42

I think as parents it's our job to teach our children, boys and girls that appearance is not the be all and end all, and to teach them that being healthy and fit and having a good relationship with food is the main goal. And that if anyone considers them less of a person because they are not thin thin thin then they need to tell them to fuck off. So yes, I would rather see modelling and film makers etc etc use a much bigger variety of people who have different body types (and shock horror, how about some disabled models or models that aren't white) but that doesn't mean that every single thin model out there deserves to be ripped apart and told they are single handedly responsible for the weird body obsessed culture we live in.

5madthings · 14/11/2013 13:43

What Hopalong said.

But the model is slim but looks fine, certainly doesn't look Ill.

squeakytoy · 14/11/2013 13:44

I wouldnt say she was painfully thin. Just naturally thin. She has healthy glowing skin, bright eyes and glossy hair.. and looks fine.

BettySwollocksandaCrustyRack · 14/11/2013 13:44

Ithaka - I am same as you, BMI of 21, thin face but athletic looking body wise. People tell me I am petit, skinny or whatever but I really am not, so annoying!

Docket, yes, it is bloody rude, why people feel the need to comment I have no idea. I would never dream of telling someone they are too fat.

She looks fine, stop body shaming.

limitedperiodonly · 14/11/2013 13:46

Oh not that poor example excuse for criticising someone's body again.

MySiamese · 14/11/2013 13:47

God, it's scary that there are so many saying that she looks amazing and they love her figure.

To me, she does look too thin, her face does show it as well.

Not good at all.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 14/11/2013 13:48

According to measurements found online her BMI is 17.5 and bordering on dangerously underweight

smudgedgraffiti · 14/11/2013 13:48

Can't we stop with the awful dissection of women's bodies? This woman is celebrated on the catwalk for her beauty and she still isn't "good enough" for some people. Beautiful/healthy comes in all shapes and sizes, including some very slim people. She looks gorgeous to me.

And I also agree with ithaka and Nerfmother. I have lost a lot of weight over the past two years can not count the number people who have told me "don't lose any more you're looking very thin" etc. My bmi is 21, I am nowhere near "underweight".

MyPrettyToes · 14/11/2013 13:48

I had a baby six months ago. I too have a 'concave' stomach. I am as thin if not thinner than Hilary Rhonda and like her I have bloody awesome muscle tone. No I am not ill and I am not anorexic. I exercise 5 times a week. I run a lot, I also do HIIT. I eat a little more than average (lots of protein). Yesterday I run a mile in 6mins 37 secs. I run 10k 2 or three times a week.

I am built like that. I have never been curvy. I love my legs so do most women and men I meet. I wish I had boobs but otherwise I love my body and I hate women like you OP (thankfully a minority) because of your own issues you have a go at women built like me.

OP you are fucking offensive and talking shit.

MatildaMai · 14/11/2013 13:49

The thing is, these girls are about 6 feet tall. And have size 9 feet. They are just very willowy. I have had friends (not models) who are like this. They eat like horses but never put on weight due to their body shape. They have 'thin days' like the rest of us have 'fat days'.

harticus · 14/11/2013 13:50

An old school friend of mine was a top underwear model - at 6ft 1" she was expected to weigh a maximum of 8stone 4 lbs. She never ate anything of substance and was permanently woozy from lack of food.

Now in her 40s and a normal weight for her height she has been left with significant health problems. Her heart has been weakened because such excessive weight loss affects muscle.

The modelling business is the most abusive and dangerous industry I have ever encountered.

Heathcliff27 · 14/11/2013 13:52

I think she looks fine

SparklyFucker · 14/11/2013 13:52

YABU - she quite clearly does not look unwell as she has bright eyes and some visble muscle tone, but she is also not typical of a naturally slim and healthy adult either.

She is a model. She is in that career because she is a) naturally slim and very long limbed, but more importantly - b) prepared to go on strict diets in order to loose even more weight to refine her natural body type even further, c) quite pretty.

MySiamese · 14/11/2013 13:53

Mypretty

You just totally contradict yourself. You aren't 'just built like that'

You do a lot of excercise, that is why you are like that.

scripsi · 14/11/2013 13:53

Also these days we are so used to seeing faces plumped with fillers that her face looks thinner than the celebrity norm (and she hasn't had her nose to mouth lines filled).

BettySwollocksandaCrustyRack · 14/11/2013 13:54

MyPretty is saying she is built like the model, naturally slim. I know people who are really slim and do no exercise at all - some people are built like that!

Can't see where the contradiction is.

RevengeWiggle · 14/11/2013 13:56

I think all of this nit picking of a woman's body is pathetic and damaging. Making offensive, dramatic declarations such as "she looks awful and ill" achieves nothing other than upsetting the portion of women who do look like that, how can you call something damaging to self-esteem while contributing to the problem with such comments. And if some of these women are ill, skinny ones or overweight ones, shame on you for using an eating disorder as an insult.

If you want all different body shapes to be accepted that includes tall, skinny women.

MySiamese · 14/11/2013 13:56

Ah I see how I have read it differently than intended. Apologies.

ArbitraryUsername · 14/11/2013 13:57

I don't know how you managed to even notice the model's body. I was too busy wondering what on earth was going on with the brightly coloured feathery wings (the won't sell many bras if that's actually part of the bra) and the hideous tufts on the shoes.
