1). What does it feel like when you see that feather?

2). What are your thoughts when this happens?

3). What would you say are the long term (if any) effects that you would attribute to these encounters.

I understand that this belief has been the subject of some ridicule here. I have no intention of ridiculing anyone. This thread has been inspired by a previous AIBU thread, but is not a thread about a thread. I am not a journalist. I am not seeking results to use in an academic submission or publication. What I am seeking is knowledge and understanding in the hope that I can use it to help others.

You are not God head, your threat would not hold. I could decide to give you the money, freely, if I wished.

Serial killer ties you up and says "Do what I say and I might not torture you". That's not exactly a free choice.

Anyway the 'reward' isn't much of a reward after all now we know it would only be a cut down version of us that went to heaven. Wouldn't even see the people we miss really. Just puppets that looked a bit like them.

How do you know what you think is god is god?

Why should I pray? What reason is there to think the bible offers anything beyond any other ancient religious text?

If I pray how do I know it's not just one part of my brain talking to another?

You don't know until you have begun to truly seek God through Christ head. It takes Faith.

So imagine I get to the pearly gates. Security staff say ' your name's not on the list because you didn't repent' I say 'there was nothing to suggest it was real' (setting aside the abhorrent nature of the biblical god) they say 'well tough, you should have believed it anyway'. That seems fair?

But we have no reason to take it seriously, nothing to suggest its anything different to the other religions, which I assume you agree, are also man made?

The concept of freedom is not a simple one.

You can still have free will, even though choices have consequences, because all choices have consequences. So I reject the assertion consequences mean no free will.

Some people do not believe we have free will and claim we are the victims of our physiology. I reject this assertion too.

I choose to believe we have free will. Free will is important to me. Otherwise there is no hope.

Do we have the power to bless or curse sublime? You could be right. Have you any bible verses I could have? I like to look at the bible myself to make sure everything is in context.

Gold not chapter and verse. Bless and not curse is advised in terms of behaviour, so it follows we can curse. There is more but I would have to look it up, as you would. I am thinking New Testament.

I seeked god. I was a tongue speaking, on my knees, feet washing, seeding, sowing, Christian, the lot. It was all in my own head. How do I know. Reality.

I could not feel free without Faith. I would feel a victim of my physiology or worry due to the possible consequences of every action. It is what keeps me from analysis paralysis. Science is not enough, it offers little reassurance.

God works through people.

I cannot rely on people to help by themselves, without Divine inspiration. They don't know enough. Most human 'help' has to be bought and paid for in some form or another. You buy into their 'expertise' and inflate their egos at the very least. You are beholden to their advise in order to receive their 'help'. Or you pay, literally, money.

What I think isn't about reassurance, I just don't see any evidence for a loving god, if I wanted reassurance that didn't have to have proof I could come up with all manner of stuff.

And I am not as concerned with evidence as you head because there can never be enough and I do not want to do a risk assessment every time I make a decision. Added to this being risk averse has it's own pitfalls.

and if someone sincerely thinks that another religion is the true one and follows it his whole life. Trying to be the best person he can. What then? Straight to hell for guessing wrong?
