I find it impossible to use these days.

There is a fight on every thread. And I don't just mean in a yanbu/yabu sort of way. I mean that people are happy to round on others because they have different reasons for being here.

I have even seen a row between two different support threads this week.

If you want to make friends you are told off for being royalty or cliquey.

If you want to indulge in a little mild gossiping you are shouted down for being judgemental or shallow.

If you want to have a lighthearted chat you have to make that clear in the thread title nowadays.

I find the general mood of the place to be aggressive, angry, confrontational, defensive, impossible, predictable.

I keep hoping that things will improve, but how ?

Yes I was teasing! At least a couple of people appreciate me!

FortyDoorsToNowhere · 12/11/2013 17:39

I joined here as the parenting site I was on slated MN aibu, within a day I was hooked, so much that I didn't really go back.

I quite like the variety of post here.

usualsuspect · 12/11/2013 17:39

I don't like it when people I like NC.

AbsDuCroissant · 12/11/2013 17:43

BOF, are you getorf?

I remember when this was all fields over here. None of this bunfighty nonsense.

TalcAndTurnips · 12/11/2013 17:44

I sometimes think we're all loitering around on the MN street corner, kicking an empty can of Panda Pop about, waiting for each other to start a fun thread.

Gwan, you start one.

No you do it.

I'll join in if you do, promise.

Look, she'll start it >

.

Bugger me, I've tried. I acknowledge fully that I lack the thread-starting chromosome.

Mardy is good at it. I wonder if her mum will let her come out to play?

MoominsYonisAreScary · 12/11/2013 17:48

I think there is more bun fighty and sometimes quite shitty posting on here lately. The support is still around though

Sparklingbrook · 12/11/2013 17:50

I found out at the weekend what it's not for. With knobs on.

SirChenjin · 12/11/2013 17:51

Wow - what happened Sparkling??

MadameDefarge · 12/11/2013 17:53

I think Sparkling, that Things Have Been Dealt With. IYSWIM.

Sparklingbrook · 12/11/2013 17:53

I found out it's not for threads about Daytime TV and Z list celebs started by me. And I have the density of custard.

Sparklingbrook · 12/11/2013 17:54

Good Madame

AbsDuCroissant · 12/11/2013 17:55

Yes, what happened Sparkling?

Also, how do you FIND the jokey threads. I like hanging out on them, but I can never find them. There should be some kind of alert "this thread is not threatening to your mental sanity" or "this thread will not drive you to reenact the Moldies saga".

Or you know, the Glastonbury analogy and we just all bugger off and fondly remember the good old days of MN.

LadyBeagleEyes · 12/11/2013 17:55

Bloody well is Sparkling.
BTW I never see you on the X Factor thread.
It's great, you have to hate all the contestants.
You'd so fit in.

AbsDuCroissant · 12/11/2013 17:56

haha - juxtapostion of Moldies and Saga. I didn't mean to do it! It just happened!

SirChenjin · 12/11/2013 17:56

Oh dear....was someone professionally offended (I love that expression, very MN Grin) by your thread SB? Sad I can't imagine you ever offending anyone, you're always very luffly on here (apart from your love of all things feline, but everyone is allowed one weakness Grin)

AbsDuCroissant · 12/11/2013 17:59

I know how to lure Getorf out though. Just pose a thread titled something like "hair care was so much better before the advent of silicone" or "Friends is a rubbish tv show" or "naked Michael Roux pictures".
It's like catnip to her.

Maybe it's time to go on holiday. A nice MN cruise ship to Spain. A wee spot of sunshine should cheer everybody up. (and will save me having to cook throwing cakes)

AbsDuCroissant · 12/11/2013 18:00

I mean michel. I'm being dense.

SirChenjin · 12/11/2013 18:01

Dear God Abs - that link should come with a warning

CakeBotherer · 12/11/2013 18:04

Jr or Snr? (not that I'm clicking that link either way. TW cock is still lodged in my brain!)

Heartbrokenmum73 · 12/11/2013 18:05

Well, over the last week or so I've discovered things about MN and a few startling realisations about myself.

About myself - I really, really don't like racists! I mean, I knew that anyway, but turns out I really really don't like them. And I can argue for bloody hours with the buggers if need be. And I'm extremely easily wound up, so I'll by staying off threads like that in the future - having been drawn into another one (by the same goady buggers!!) again in the past few days - gaaaaah!

About MN - if there's an issue worth fighting for, people will fight for it. The turnout on the immigration thread (and the clarity and sense people displayed) astounded me. I haven't been on a thread like that before, so it stunned me, but yeah, despite the subject matter, the behaviour of a (very small) minority and MNHQ's cack-handed dealing with it, I'm quite proud of how it went down.

I've had some fantastic advice in Relationships about my relationship breakdown and my worries over my parenting in the wake of that. I'm seriously in love with the regulars (I hate the bloody 'royalty' thing too) on the Mental Health board because they're so wonderful and supportive. And I've also had great advice on helping my three weird cats with a big house move - all settled in now!

And the laughs are fantastic - the World of Peppa Pig thread in particular sticks out because it was just so much fun. SPs thread about chocolate bars yesterday was great too - despite making me want a Frys Chocolate Cream.

And if there are particular regulars I look out for and value the advice of, I don't think that's a bad thing. If a thread's kicking off, or advice is needed, I know when certain people turn up (many of them on this thread!), things will be cool. I'm not the best at putting across an argument and tend to have foot-in-mouth syndrome when I get wound up, but there are people around who will back me up and put my garbled words into a sensible paragraph...or three words!

Swings and roundabouts, but overall I'm glad to be here.

Sorry for the essay - as you were.

CakeBotherer - I think you should see a doctor about that then. It might be fatal.

I'm not planning this! it's just happening!

OneStepCloser · 12/11/2013 18:24

Im so niave Abs, I clicked on that ready for a moment Grin

I had lovely support over the last couple of days with regard to evil ILs, and Ive seen really lovely threads recently. But...but there is an element of goading on here, perhaps I just notice it more, along with more porky pies. Sometimes I feel a little old for MN, and I`m not.

^^ up there someone said they needed a forum for between Mumsnet and Gransnet, that me, like a perfectpersonnet or something like that.
