Knitting your own Birkenstocks?!
Katie Hopkins again.. Doesn't she ever go away? The debate about Attachment Parenting didn't seem to even go anywhere or be resolved.
Anyone else see it?
AIBU to think Katie Hopkins needs less airtime?

Ooooo Ear do share with us who the lucky owner of said chip is.

Elf some of us were around in the 80s and don't have such selective memories / rosy tinted spectacles re the Geldof form of parenting we must all now bow down to.

noddyholder · 12/11/2013 21:23

Utter arrogance is surely only seeing your own way as correct. There are many ways to parent a child and if you think it is cruel to use controlled crying you cannot lie, just the same as if you consider attachment parenting stifling. We are all different but there are lots of chips on this thread always are with this subject. Instinctive parenting sounds like a good half way house! My ds is 19 and there was no talk of AP afaik when he was little yet I can still hear my mother criticising me for being 'too close' to my son. There is no 100% definitive right way.

OrlandoWoolf · 12/11/2013 21:24

retropear

She just went on TV to talk about it. You don't have to follow it.

OrlandoWoolf · 12/11/2013 21:25

And how many times have you been made to feel a crap parent by someone else about how you bring up your DCs? To be made to feel guilty in some way by someone who thinks they know best?

frizzcat · 12/11/2013 21:26

Thank you Retro and Monica

I really feel that mothers (and fathers too) are tearing themselves up over something that can not be argued/ageeded over.

No two people are the same, no two parents are the same, no two children are the same so based on that there is no one parenting style.

I have a child with a disability and the biggest lesson I've learned and I'm grateful to my ds for having taught me this is that no "expert" is an expert on my child except for me. They may be an expert in their field but no one knows my children like I do. I know what motivates them, what they'll struggle with, what makes then scared, what calms them down, what makes them laugh. I know every minute of their life from the womb to now.

I find it frustrating that parents are constantly berated. You don't play enough with them, they're not reading enough. OMG you bottle fed?! OMG you breast fed for how long?
A baby carrier are you mad? Hhhmmm a sling is it actually safe? Put them in a cot, don't put them in a cot, play Mozart they'll be smarter. SAHP v working parents. The right pram.... Weening before 6mths, organic food or not.

It's fucking endless. Stop listening to these people selling you something that you would have done anyway because thats how YOU are and thats what YOUR child needs and then let them name it for you.

BTW - I don't think PG or KH were there to sell me anything, when I say that I'm talking about the books that are flogged written by Dr somebody or other

OrlandoWoolf · 12/11/2013 21:30

frizzcat

Katie was there to sell herself. But I don't think you can buy her soul as that's already gone.

Retropear · 12/11/2013 21:31

In RL never.

On MN attempts by AP several times, but actual guilt felt not a jot.

I feel guilt if I forget something important, lose my temper etc but guilt from someone who thinks they know best sorry no- I'm not 2.

Noddy every single mother I know is instinctive,I certainly am.It doesn't need a parenting label.

frizzcat · 12/11/2013 21:34

Grin Orlando

MmeLindor · 12/11/2013 21:34

Elf
That is really sad. I had forgotten that she was so young when her mother died.

Amazing really, that she was the one in that discussion who showed empathy and understanding of the choices of others.

Perhaps we should all take heart, that a young woman who has been through difficult times in her childhood, can turn out so well. As many other people who are brought up in less than ideal circumstances.

So maybe it doesn't matter a fig, whether we do AP or CC, BF or FF. We can shut MN down now :)

Retropear · 12/11/2013 21:35

Peaches has referred to copying her mother's AP style in other articles.

OrlandoWoolf · 12/11/2013 21:35

Lucky you. retropear You must have very supportive parents and PILs who don't ever criticise your parenting.

Some of us don't.

ElfontheShelfIsWATCHINGYOUTOO · 12/11/2013 21:51

I did not know that Retro, I wasn't thinking of the 80's, I said I did not think PG seemed spoilt and I resent KH making a strange hand gesture to her when KH was talking about spoilt brats, You then said to me, had i seen her on Fearne program

I was merely saying I think she she has had a shit childhood, and she seems to have scrubbed up well and she is still a very very young girl.

I think PG has had more than her fair dose of real life with a herion addict mother, over dose and dying and all the sordid details about MH dying in some sex thing than most have to live through.

Wealthy or not.

Retropear · 12/11/2013 21:56

Hmmm I'm not going to go there,as you say she's a young girl.

Let's just say the Fearne Cotton thing was an eye opener.

I didn't really have a strong opinion on Peaches either way before this, but thought she handled herself really well in this 'debate' - she certainly held her own against Katie and then some! Rent A Gob for the Sun made me particularly laugh! Grin
I did agree with some of the things Katie was saying and I never thought I'd say thatbut I think she's more of a pantomime villain. She plays up a part.
Clever? Yes. She knows what she's doing - and I've wrote about why here,
(I'm a regular on the boards but I change name for blog posts as they potentially out me! Smile

landofmakebelieve · 12/11/2013 22:02

Argh, strike out fail! Oh well.

Retropear · 12/11/2013 22:03

Yes Earless but sorry I'm not keen on the Peaches I've seen in the media (which she encourages)at all.

The AP label doesn't erase personality characteristics.

OrlandoWoolf · 12/11/2013 22:04

*retreopear

Are you keen on Katie Hopkins?

Retropear · 12/11/2013 22:04

Sorry bad construction..

OrlandoWoolf · 12/11/2013 22:05

The one in the media (which she encourages)

Retropear · 12/11/2013 22:05

I wasn't but she grew on me in that interview.
