to snap spaghetti in half before it goes in the saucepan

It doesn't fit if I don't!

My sister says I should stick it in, wait for the half that is in the water to soften enough, then bend it over so the rest goes in the hot water too.

However I don't like this because
a. the top bit sticking out the pan gets singed by the hot metal of the pan, which tastes bad
b. half the spaghetti is a bit more cooked than the other half

Yes. YABU. You leave the immersed ends until they are soft enough and then you grab the end of the bunch and gently squoosh the rest down until it fits in. It only takes a couple of minutes. Snapped up spaghetti is for two year olds.

And as for anyone who chops it up on their plate and eats it with a knife and fork, well there are no words for people like you. Hmm

snapping it into smaller still sized pieces can give you a whole new pasta dish.u can use it for cheese sauces.tomato based sauces for bakes and dished that you would for penne, fusilie etc.makes a difference when you only find that packet of spaghetti in ur cupboard and u need a quikc pasta dish!!

It only takes a couple of minutes. [To twist]

And it takes 1 second to snap it!!!!

I prefer to twist, then cut up on the plate for the toddler.

But if you're going to snap, do so while it's still in the packet to save getting bits everywhere.

And while we are at it, the correct way to open a packet of spaghetti is to whack it hard with its round end on the work surface.

Yanbu, I burnt spaghetti once. I'm actually a good cook as well.

Italians snap. That is why we do not use SPOONS to eat pasta of any description.
