to snap spaghetti in half before it goes in the saucepan

It doesn't fit if I don't!

My sister says I should stick it in, wait for the half that is in the water to soften enough, then bend it over so the rest goes in the hot water too.

However I don't like this because
a. the top bit sticking out the pan gets singed by the hot metal of the pan, which tastes bad
b. half the spaghetti is a bit more cooked than the other half

Toys

My lasagne is not proper lasagne because I use cheese sauce instead of white sauce and too many layers and of course there must be cheese on top! So Spaggy Laggy (as it is known) is not actually that bad in the great big scheme of things!

Bogeyface · 10/11/2013 23:49

My original lasagne recipe came off the back of a lasagne sheet box in the 80's, so I think I can be forgiven!

ravenAK · 11/11/2013 00:08

No to snapping! Although I'm a shameless slurper & dh is a twiddler. He'd probably thank me for snapping it so he doesn't have to watch me hoover it up in a most un-Sophia Loren fashion.

I do mix different types of pasta, though. In fact, I've got a huge jar in the kitchen into which bag ends get dumped, & every so often I do a pasta bake which basically consists of the pasta bag end jar, cooked, any random fridge veg, a jar of passata, all topped with cheese sauce to use up any slightly iffy milk.

I'm just not very reverent when it comes to pasta, I'm afraid.

Bogeyface: I like cheese (and lots of it) too.. If I remember right, it was DM who objected to the cheese. Now both of them have completely forgotten all about that sodding row while me and DB are still traumatised by it Hmm

I barely ever make lasagne, because there are only three of us and DS doesn't like it weirdo Therefore I always end up hoovering up a whole pan with only a bit of help from DH..

BatPenguin · 11/11/2013 00:26

Yabu for eating spaghetti, snapped or otherwise. Tagliatelle is where it's at - comes in nice neat little nests. Tidy.

ToysRLuv · 11/11/2013 00:32

Sometimes tgey have falle apart, though, Bat. Then you get lots of bits in the packet. Very untidy..

ToysRLuv · 11/11/2013 00:33

Oh Jaysus.. Sorry about typos -blasted virtual keyboard..

BatPenguin · 11/11/2013 00:37

I have never experienced such sub-standard Tagliatelle. I lie, I shop in Asda

Bogeyface · 11/11/2013 00:38

Toys I never hoover food as I have some issues, except my homemade lasgane!

And what is it with parents who have blistering rows that everyone is traumatised by, except them?! My parents dont remember any of the arguments that my sister and I can quote word for word!

ToysRLuv · 11/11/2013 00:38
Grin
Bogeyface · 11/11/2013 00:39

How many tagliatelle nests per person though? I dont think there is a standard and there should be!

ToysRLuv · 11/11/2013 00:41

Yes.. How can they forget! DM now says that she doesn't mind the cheese and has, apparently, always the same. WTF? Oh well..

ToysRLuv · 11/11/2013 00:42

That is a question.. Even harder if they're broken..

Kickarsequeen · 11/11/2013 00:42

Yes! It makes it impossible to twirl!! Shock

Bogeyface · 11/11/2013 00:47

My mother swears blind that she didnt serve me mince and tatties for breakfast because I didnt eat it the night before.

I know that she did!

Bogeyface · 11/11/2013 00:48

And I remember her tipping a bowl of Rice Krispies over my 5 yr old sisters head on a "bad day" but she denies it......

ToysRLuv · 11/11/2013 00:50

That's awful! How convenient that she has forgotten.. Hmm

ToysRLuv · 11/11/2013 00:53

I've thought of upturning something on DS's fussy head before, but luckily always found some restraint.. I think that could be pretty traumatic Sad

Bogeyface · 11/11/2013 00:53

Its funny really, its only now we realise it was abusive, but it doesnt really matter because she had serious health problems that we didnt know about. Doesnt make it right, but makes it .... ermm.....sort of live-able?

Bogeyface · 11/11/2013 00:55

She had major hormone problems (think PMT x infinity)and she couldnt help it.

Didnt make it easy to deal with but it has made it easier to forgive.

ToysRLuv · 11/11/2013 00:56

Anyway, was thinking today, is green spinach pasta meant to be had only with green pesto? I used the tomato sauce we had open inte fridge, so the pasta ended up looking a bit brown and weird -frankly unappetising. Tasted nice, though..

ToysRLuv · 11/11/2013 00:59

Ah, both my oarent have had tgeir iwn share of mental health problems and both have been at some point on meds for depression or anxiety. They woukd say it was merely "stress", as that sounds like a "respectable" problem for an ambitious career person..

ToysRLuv · 11/11/2013 01:00

Screwed me up, they did! I don't even care if I mix pasta shapes Grin

flyingspaghettimonster · 11/11/2013 03:08

YANBU. There is no wrong way to eat pasta - it is all glorious in the eyes of His Noodliness. He has blessed it all with his noodly appendage.
